Peppermint angel video

I would only pay $17k for a fish like that... which is more than I paid for my "new" car... I wonder if they had to mortgage the house to afford one of them.

If it started nipping at my corals it would become sushi very quickly.

At the risk of sounding completely newb-ish, what exactly makes then cost so much?

Are they extremely rare in the wild?

All these things drive up cost:

it being rare

difficulty in collecting

shipping charges

survival rate during shipping

desire of people to pay (sometimes over-pay)

and others

Centropyge boylei, Peppermint Angels are deepwater living fish, that are rarely collected. On top of this, they are diffiucult to acclimate to life at the "surface". Additionally they are found in an area that is somewhat politically unstable. Also, if you could get $20,000 for something wouldn't you sell it for that?
