Michael7979
Well if I spent 20K (scary) on A FISH my tank would look crappy too! DOH! (whistle) I'm sure the rest of his house is crappy too, mine would be. :p But the fish is really cool looking.
andy
That's a beautiful fish, really healthy looking... which is a good thing for a $20k fish (laugh)
dsoz
I would only pay $17k for a fish like that... which is more than I paid for my "new" car... I wonder if they had to mortgage the house to afford one of them. If it started nipping at my corals it would become sushi very quickly. dsoz
Rob Allen
I would have put at least 10% into the tank, but......
AquaticEngineer
At the risk of sounding completely newb-ish, what exactly makes then cost so much? Are they extremely rare in the wild?
Michael7979
At the risk of sounding completely newb-ish, what exactly makes then cost so much? Are they extremely rare in the wild? All these things drive up cost: it being rare difficulty in collecting shipping charges survival rate during shipping desire of people to pay (sometimes over-pay) and others
Rob Allen
Centropyge boylei are very, very rare. Moorish Idols are known to be just about impossible to keep. These have very little data about keeping captive, for obvious reasons. Steve - have you heard of specific details on this fish in captivity? JManrow
20 Grand for a fish. That's what he gets for buying fish on eBay... some people never learn.
defigart
Centropyge boylei, Peppermint Angels are deepwater living fish, that are rarely collected. On top of this, they are diffiucult to acclimate to life at the "surface". Additionally they are found in an area that is somewhat politically unstable. Also, if you could get $20,000 for something wouldn't you sell it for that?
