jm82792 Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 I'm going to buy a Mag-Float since I don't enjoy getting water on my dad's hardwood floor,if the floor warps(Really easy trust me) I can kiss my little reef setup bye bye. So I'm wondering if the mag float for glass works well I know a simple question. Quote
impur Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 Works pretty good if you do it daily. Its good at getting the small spots of coralline, but once the coralline gets quarter sized or so they won't do much. Quote
mister crabs Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 they work ok. i have one and its a pain to get into the curved corners of the glass. check these out. http://www.nimblenano.com/ made by some guy but work awesome. lots of people at Reefcentral and nano-reef.com use them. much easier to clean the glass corners of the all-in-one tanks. I have been meaning to order one but other things keep coming up. Quote
dsoz Posted June 26, 2008 Posted June 26, 2008 +1, I would go with a nimble nano! They have people raving about them on NR. Especially for the curved corners of the AP. dsoz Quote
jm82792 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Posted June 27, 2008 Alright,I'll look into ti None around here sells mag floats anyways and with shipping there like $10 may aswell spend abit more. Quote
ThePremiumAquarium Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 I love mag floats but for those corners I definately here what everyone is saying. Also, try and go with the next size up then what is recommended. I have found they do a little better job. Garrett Quote
pledosophy Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Great for glass, I would avoid (meaning shoot anyone who comes near my tank with a magfloat) on acrylic. Acrylic safe just doesn't mean what it used too . Quote
jm82792 Posted June 27, 2008 Author Posted June 27, 2008 I thought about acrylic for a reef setup but if ti gets scratched then it's ruined,I love glass just not the shattering part I'll spend the $4 more on the bigger nimble, since I don't want to skimp. Quote
WAVES Posted June 27, 2008 Posted June 27, 2008 Anything bigger than a 55gal should have an Algae Free or Magnavore. Magfloats are for 50gal less IMO. Quote
tidalsculpin Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I use a mag float, then a kent pro scraper on glass. Just go to goodwill and get some old towels to put down. Save your money for corals. Quote
siskiou Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I used magfloats to save money, but finally had to admit that it really wasn't doing such a great job. Got a Magnavore and just last week glued on the Easy Blade for my model. It's fantastic and I wish I'd gotten it months ago. I can finally clean off all the green hard algae that I could never quite get off with my hand scraper. This is for larger aquariums, though. For my nano, the magfloat and Kent scraper did the job just fine. Quote
