siskiou
I want to re-paint the stand/canopy for the 60G cube I picked up this weekend. It's currently white and definitely need refreshing. What type of paint is recommended for the inside and outside of saltwater aquarium stands? And should I sand, or remove the old paint for putting on the new? I would for sure scrap and sand the old paint off... as for paint, if you look at my old build thread, it was outdoor paint for houses and I also sealed it with a sealer, that they tend to use in bathrooms in homes, just in case water gets on it...I have spilled and dripped plenty of water on my stand it is has had no issues... jayR
I would strip & sand, then paint with primer & Oil Based type paint. I recently used oil based commercial type paint from HD & it works pretty good & wipes off water pretty good.
Ronjunior
If you're going to strip it completely, you might think about a good stain. Save the stain and you can touch up if ever needed. If not stain, make sure you pay for good paint. I second using oil based paint with a good sheen/water resistance.
luv951
I have heard that many people have used Killz from HD or lowes for the inside. Its pure white and will help to stave off any mold/mildew, etc. I have not used it, but will when I begin my 150 build in a month or two.
