Lexinverts
Hello all: As most of us are well aware, the reefs of the world today are threatened by a number of factors, with the most significant being climate change and ocean acidification. As an example, we've recently see large scale bleaching of the Great Barrier Reef linked to warmer ocean temperatures (http://www.bbc.com/news/world-australia-38127320). Much of the research on reef-building corals at Oregon State University focuses on climate-based threats and looks for ways to help reef ecosystems survive the 21st century. Katie Dziedzic, a Ph.D. student at Oregon State, is crowdfunding her coral reef research, which focuses on acclimation of corals and their zooxanthellae to rising ocean temperatures. If you would like to spread some holiday cheer to the reef and help fund a cool project, please consider giving a few bucks towards to her research aimed at saving wild reef communities. https://experiment.com/coralacclimation Cheers, Andy
