nyoder23
Since my little Aquapod has decided to grow coral out the yang yang I have decided to build a quick but cheap frag tank system. Well to me it is cheap and looks cheaply done but it does the job. I have been a big fan of this hobby for years now. Never really posted much on this site but getting back into this hobby again after the move up to Washington. Eventually would like to leave a very well respected job in the medical field to pursue the business side of this hobby in the near future. For now just some fun hobbyist fragging. So here is what I have so far. The tank is a 24 by 24 acrylic. I have drilled two holes in it and decided not to go the overflow route as I am impatient and did not want to wait for the shipping and gluing and just wanted to get it up and running. For lighting I have Oceanrevive LED system which I love. I am using the the Aquoen ProFlex sump model 3 which works great. I bought that originally for my cube build but that is a ways off so used it for this. I do not have a skimmer at this time as I do regular water changes and that seems to work till I save up for a good protein skimmer. I have to use two heaters in this tank as this is setup in my garage and that works perfectly as it is cold outside. Tell me what you think. Remember this is not perfect and it was done quickly and on the cheaper side but seems to be working perfectly. I am proud of the little thing. I have added some pictures of some frags in the tank that seem to being doing good so I will take it.
merritt180
Is it just me or do you have your return mounted super low in the tank? If so wont when your return pump shuts off wont it back syphon the tank nearly dry?
TheClark
Nice setup! Thanks for the post. +1 to what merrit said, I lost 150 gallons one night when my pump shot off. Shocking!!

Arsonmfg
Never trust a check valve! At some point it will fail and it'll only take once.

Mandinga
Nice looking little tank! Garage tanks are great during the winter, but come summer time you'll have to find a way to keep the temps down for a few weeks.
Paratore
Nice looking little tank! Garage tanks are great during the winter, but come summer time you'll have to find a way to keep the temps down for a few weeks.Very true! I keep my frag tank (120 gallons total volume) in my shed and it struggled with temperature swings for a while. I installed a chiller for the summer months and that helped a ton, was able to keep the tank within half a degree fluctuations even when it was 100 degrees outside. Winter isn't so bad, I just added an extra heater and the tank does just fine Very nice build! I've always wanted to try and build a little frag tank! Look forward to seeing how it progresses Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
nyoder23
Never trust a check valve! At some point it will fail and it'll only take once.I have installed ponds for so long and always use them never had a problem. But this is saltwater and your right it will only take once for me to feel the same way. Sent from my LG-LS980 using Tapatalk

Paratore
For temp, I would recommend placing both a heater in the sump and one in the actual frag tank. That's what I do and it works great! Also gives me peace of mind that the tank will stay warm if my return pump ever dies! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
