wegotjs
Has anyone seen this site. Nice idea if you could get the funds to build it. http://www.scubaquarium.com/index.php It really dosen't say if there is any progress being made, makes me wonder if it will ever open. reefgeek84
It is very cool...There is a similar thing in a research lab in Australia, Except they just enclosed part of the reef with walls, it is big enough that the women who is in charge of it dives in it every day to do research on the corals that are living with in it. DennisW
If the premise of the whole operation is preservation and ecology, I wonder where all the specimens are going to come from? Frag trades? Dennis

Dennis possibly...I know that the aquarium in hawaii has a great program of aquacultured corals for purposes like these...So they will probably go that route and just wait for it to grow out...or they may get wild caught stuff... WAVES
I dont know how they could possibly keep the water clean enough for corals. Imagine the bioload of 25 humans in the water all day? Are they going to do 10,000gal water change every week? Id guess this thing will never pan out, Id keep your $299 membership fee.
andy
I'd definitely pay someone else to clean out the skimmer....
dsoz
I'd definitely pay someone else to clean out the skimmer.... ya, do you KNOW what people do in their wetsuits? YUCK! There are two types of divers, those that make colored water in their wetsuit (whistle) , and those that lie about it...

It's more likely they will end up doing what most public aquariums do, just put fake corals in the tank
reefgeek84
It's more likely they will end up doing what most public aquariums do' date=' just put fake corals in the tank[/quote'] on their list of inverts they plan to have in there, there are many corals on the list... oldbrownies
What I'm thinking though, they might keep a bunch of corals in there, but have them mixed around fakes, otherwise thats a lot of freaking coral to take out of the ocean
bluecheese
Really cool idea. Not sure it would be viable either. But would love to see it happen if they can pull it off . Can you imagine the kind of light they would need to sustain growth of their corals ? (if that is the plan).
