reefgeek84 Posted January 4, 2007 Posted January 4, 2007 So in another thread this seems to be a hot topic...so I figured I would start a new thread, cause I think people want to discuss this. Me personally, if they are in over abundance, then I say kill a certain amount...we do it with deer and elk, why not sea lions...I love animals, but there needs to be a certain level of equilibrium to balance everything out. Maybe that is an extreme, but we have spent so much money on trying to be civil and not kill them and nothing has worked. And I do not think more money should be spent to possibly catch and relocate them... Let's hear what others have to say... Quote
mister crabs Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 you cant even relocate them if you wanted to......they would just find thier way back home again or cause issues where they are sent......controlled hunting seems to be the best angle.....unless someone can devise something that would drivethe sea lions farther from the fish ladders. mister crabs Posted January 12, 2007 Posted January 12, 2007 thats the attitude we have had about too many animals in teh past....hence the endangered species list.....seriously there has to be something that annoys sea lions....maybe a high pitched noise under the water like we use to keep other animals away? siskiou Posted January 15, 2007 Posted January 15, 2007 Maybe the humans could stop the over-fishing and make it possible for the salmon populations to recover? Quote

The only natural enemy of the sea lion is the Killer Whale. I wonder if recorded Orca sounds have been tried as a repellent. Quote

oldbrownies Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 they do use them, with those fake whales they tow behind boats, it scares them for a while, but they are quick to realize that its just humans messing with their heads Quote
