wanareef
What do you feed your Acans, how and when. They are night feeders and sometimes extend their stomachs, mesenterial filament bundles or feeding tentacles. tia
snowpunk
I feed mine mysis with a dropper, but you can usually feed them any meaty food.
fishmanmike01
I feed mine mysis, brine and my blender mush with a syringe, I just squirt a little in each head and then fight off the [language filter] cleaner shrimp until they are done. dsoz
If it is small enough, you can cut the bottom off a pop bottle and use the upper part to cover the coral while feeding. It even works great with a syringe because you can stick it down the hole where the cap goes on. I need to do this with the corals that I feed, or the ^$#\^% yellow tang that I have will steal the food. I usually feed freeze dried plankton. I also feed SMALL pieces of cut-up silverside, and I also have some "rods food" coral blend. I also have Reef nutrition oyster eggs (they love this) and arctipods. I don't have a strict rotation, it is just what I feel like feeding that day. I will usually feed stuff every 2nd or 3rd day. dsoz

darrellw
I just got my first acan last week. It seems happy, but mine closes up at night. Is that normal? I'd like to try feeding it a bit, should I just do that in the daytime when it is open?
impur
Yah just try when its feeders are extended. FWIW i don't feed mine, they get what they can catch when i feed my fish. But in my QT tank i do feed them sometimes, i use tweezers and make sure each polyp gets a mysis. Takes some time, and i get sunburnt from my MH but the corals love it. dsoz
So far I haven't seen it "extend" anything. What do the feeders look like? It looks like little tentacles sticking out of each "spot" or head. The tentacles are white or clear. Have you ever seen a candycane coral extend feeder tentacles at night? Looks like that. FWIW, I have a couple acans that will extend feeder tentacles whenever there is food in the tank. I have another one that NEVER extends them (as far as I have seen). dsoz

andy
I have an small acan that never really extends its feeder tentacles... I'm starting to suspect it's not an acan at all, maybe a micromussa..
impur
Micros extend theirs just the same, they are just small acans really Here are some acans with feeders extended. And micromussa
Emerald525
I usually supply my acans with a menu and typically they will start with an appetizer, bottle of wine and usually some type of dessert. The process takes about 2 hours.(laugh) The tentacles are usually always out on my acans too. I usually feed a mixture of foods but they seem to take the brine shrimp the best. darrellw
Well, I put a bit of food on it, and it must have liked it because it kind of oozed up around it and ate it. I was worried that the clowns would try to take it away, but they didn't seem interested in the food it was consuming.
