Mandinga
It was time to change nanos... The 3 gallon micro tank was running really great, but some weird snail I brought home from the Oregon coast just absolutely shredded my acrylic, so the upgrade was eminent. I went with a rimless 8gallon JBJ setup AIO with ATO, Chinese LED, MP10, and a little titanium heater. This is my office tank, so I actually see it more often then my large home tank, so I am trying to do it right:) I just finished swapping it, the water is cloudy and the corals are pissssssted.Fish seem fine, so we'll see!Still have tidying up to doIts filter time. This tank will act as a mini frag tank, with just soft corals.Fish: purple firefishCrab: strawberry crab Yasa Hashi goby added 2-10 Carlos the fire shrimp added 2-21-16 Edited February 24, 2016 by Mandinga

Put a fireshrimp in tonight and the crab grabbed right on! luckily I was able to grab the crab in time, but he did rip one of the fire shrimps claws off...shrimp is pretty stressed out, wouldnt be surprised if he doesn't make it. I should have known better...strwberry crab = bad! And here is mr feisty...ready for adoption! he was fine with my firefish...he prefers shrimp! Emerald525
Bad crab wow what an aggressive one. Sorry to hear about your fire shrimp. If it doesn't make it I will donate mine Carlos to you. Happy healthy hand feeds but I get tired of him stealing food out of my dendro. ????
Mandinga
Well sadly the fire shrimp didnt make it. I feel like an idiot! Sorry shrimp! Thanks Kim, i would live to give carlos a home:) i think i may have a coral that needs to be rehomed also;)
Mandinga
Covered the top so that the yasa wouldn't jump... Tank is coming along nicely...added a bunch of crabs and snails to help with the brown algae. These mushrooms are actually orange in person, iphone photography and led lights are a point of much frustration in my life...oh and strawberry crabs:( Which on another note strawberry crabs to me sound like some tropical disease...and just a week ago it sounded like something delicious and beautiful. Funny how our perception of these animals can change:-/ Daylights came on: Edited February 17, 2016 by Mandinga

He has a lot of personality and even will take shrimp away from the eel when I'm feeding him. I don't have the heart to tell him he's eating his relatives...

He molted this weekend, so he's a little shy at the moment:)
bubbarockies
Nope, I was just able to fit the one float unfortunately.Got ya. I did the same on mine back in Colorado. I was always paranoid the thing would fail on so I used a 20 oz soda bottle as a reservoir. I had to fill it almost every other day, but it did the job. Mandinga
funny you mention that! I use a 5 gallon jug, but I just slide the feed tube a little further down every few days...that way if it does fail it won't be epic. I have been tempted to just remove the 2nd return pump and install the second switch in there...I wonder if anyone has modded this tank with just the one return...maybe keep the powerhead runnin on the bottom so that the water keeps moving... bubbarockies
That would have been a good way to go too. I never spent too much time looking in to mods because I was pretty focused on school at the time. I'm sure someone has done it though. Getting proper flow in small tanks has always been a hard task for me Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
TheClark
Would a double float switch work? The ones that have two floats on one mount with seperate wires?

Mandinga
That would definitely fit, but what would one wire that to? I use the JBJ, it seems pretty easy.
Mandinga
Nitrates were crawling to 30...added a mini refugium to one of the pump chambers, not sure if this is a viable long term solution...but im gonna try:)
Jack-the-reefer
I had a fuge on my 2g tank that I made out of a small bio pellet reactor. It was actually the most productive fuge I've ever had.
Mandinga
Thats a good idea jack. Anything externally plumbed frightens me a little since it is on hardwood floors, away from my supervision 3 days aweek...
