  1. @obrien.david.j I was thinking about leaving a foot clearance between the tanks so I could add the salt fairly easy and look inside it need be. I'm leaning toward an external pump just to recirculate the s/w when mixing and a big water change if needed.
  2. My equipment List: Red Sea MCP Test Kit Master Car BRS Spec 4 Stage 150 gpd eFlux Loop DC Flow Return Pump 1900 GPH 40 lbs of Dry Rock eFlux Loop Wave Pump 1050 gph kit eFlux Loop Wave Pump 1050 pump only Arag-Alive Caribsea Sand 60 lbs 2 ReefLed 90w LED lights Red Sea Reefer Skimmer 300 Everything should be here by tomorrow besides the sand it will be here on monday. This is going to give me some time to get some plans made up for my mixing tanks. Between @SuncrestReef and @obrien.david.j build threads on their mixing setup i couldn't pass up the idea to do it, sure beats lugging buckets. They are not the tanks i was hoping for but for the price and being local couldn't complain. Think if stacking them with a foot or two between them to get to the lid on the bottom on, thinking of making that the saltwater tank and fresh ro/di up top and just gravity feed it into the s/w tank. I know i will have to make some kind of cover later before winter to keep the cold off of them since they will be in my garage. I'm not worried about keeping the s/w tank up to temp since i will be setting up a small dosing pump to do the awc once i get the lines in-place. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is what to do for a mixing pump. I've read that people would use the same kind as their return pump so they would have a back up which might not be a bad idea but i don't know if it will have enough power to get it 40' from my station to my tank. I will have to wait until i get my pump tomorrow to look at the pump curve on it. Thats all i have for tonight. I will try to do an update post tomorrow with all the major goodies and maybe a drawing of how i'm going to do my tanks.
  3. Guess I should of started this after my intro but oh well. I will add my equipment list in the next post. Tank was order last Friday and shipped Monday and should be here on Monday so I can't complain 10 day shipping. First two pictures are plans for the placement of the tank once I get a hole in wall for my tubing from the garage. I know my fake fishys will have to move to another wall (mother way of replacing my old tank). Just added some pictures of the flooring but what I've read and been told I'm on a load bearing wall so I'm in good shape there. Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
  4. lol all good, just glad i found a somewhat local group to chat with. Kinda sad that MCSAC disbanded.
  5. Do brand new members get another point Just became a supporting member.
  6. @Higher Thinking thank you for your input. Yes the tank should set across 3 of those joists, i think the center of the tank should be over the drain pipe or close to it.
  7. If I did my math right the tank should be sitting to this side if the brace. Still gotta figure out how to get from the garage to the tank wall. Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
  8. Yes the tank will sit perpendicular on the joists and they are 2x10 on 16" centers so it should sit on 4 of them. I'll try to crawl under the house and get some pictures while I'm trying to find a way to route some hoses from the garage to the tank. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk
  9. @scubaethan thanks, yes I bought it from their website and did the 24 month payments which wasn't bad ill have it paid off in a couple months. Yeah i think i would stay away from Amazon on fish stuff but you never know. I did order my equipment list and it should be here by then end of the week. The tank im hoping for the sams but I'm in no hurry i just got 2 55g tanks to setup for a mixing station. So I will get some room cleaned out in my garage, the next trick is getting the rodi lines to where my tank is going to be. Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
  10. What are some good online places to do some pricing on my equipment list. I know about brs, marine depot, and saltwater aquarium, i always just got my stuff at marine depot or petco.
  11. Savo, I'm not sure where your located but there isn't much in the Tri Cities area to look at, and I no longer have a truck to haul it. At lunch today I went ahead and bit the bullet and got a Waterbox Reef 130.4 with their auto top-off system. I will look around for my other parts else were to price them out later tonight or tomorrow. Happy reefing Sent from my SM-N970U using Tapatalk
  12. @SuncrestReef yes i saw that this afternoon on here after going through your build thread. Wonderful idea wish i did something like that i was just using brute trash cans on caster wheels next to my tank to do water changes, had to stretch the carpets a to fix the rolls i created. Thanks for the input on the equipment i did relize that i forgot a skimmer as well so i'll do some digging on one of them.
  13. @SuncrestReef Thank you for the welcome and the idea to look at the water box tanks. I've sent two days reading your build on r2r and dang that is a lot of information there and now i see what i miss this hobby. Your mixing station pictures had me going 90 mph thinking how i can do that in my garage. I hope you do mind but i'm going to borrow that idea. I have to say i'm going to get the Reef 130.4 model. I've made up a shopping list for now and was wondering if anyone wouldn't mind looking over it and offering up their two cents. 14. @scubaethan I don't have either one of those tanks. I've decided to look at a 100 gallon system. From what I've read tho the flu Val aio systems are great and easy to maintain. Sent from my SM-T530NU using Tapatalk
  15. Welcome back Scubaethan, I'm in the same boat just getting back into the hobby again. You could look into the Fluval 32.5 https://www.saltwateraquarium.com/fluval-saltwater-flex-32-5-gallon-aquarium-black/ I was looking at the 13.5 but i decided to go big or go home. By what i've read on the their 13.5 model they seem like a great nano tank on paper never used one myself but it is up to you. Happy reefing. Dan
  16. Hello everyone, I've been out of the game for a couple of years but before i left the hobby i was a member of MCSAC here in the Tri Cites. After leaving the hobby i've lost contact with a lot of the members and finding out that the club was dissolved and the only LFS is closed, so i'm thinking of picking up the hobby again. I had a 55g with a 20g long sump with a couple of clowns and 2 6 line wrasses with a rtba. I wanted to do more at the time but the now X didn't want the tank anymore so off it went. Since that problem is taken care of I would like to get back into having a tank and some corals. I've been eyeing the Red Sea Reefer 250 or 350 i'm up in the air with any other suggestions that you may have as well. I would like to keep it simple and start to teach my kids about keeping a tank and maybe down the road getting a little nano for them to take care of. The one of many question I have for now is before my tank was on a concrete floor in my old house and since then i've moved and have a sub flooring. Should I look at putting some kind of bracing under the 2 by 6's or would they be fine to hold that much weight?
