I appreciate that but my search will continue. Tamatoa need something a bit bigger. Like a conch shell between the size of a grapefruit and a cantaloupe

It's on linoleum in my kitchen but that is a good thought. It's about a tack strip worth out of level. 

So I've had a 20g aio cube since December and it was never very level but I blamed that on my free to build diy thrown together in one hr 2x4 stand. Yesterday I upgraded to a one year old 30 something gallon bow front on a manufactured particle board stand (ugh don't get me started on particle board) and sure enough it is just as bad or worse. It's probably 1/4" or a hair more out front to back. A little investigating and of course it's the floor that isn't level. 

What my best coarse of action? I want to drain it 95%, lift it, and put some wood shims under it but lifting particle board with any weight on it terrifies me... 

I'm in the same boat with Tamatoa (formerly known as Harold), my giant, he has been eating his shell to make it more spacious and I can't seem to find him one 

Also, be careful working around those palys! 

You can't make a crab stop doing what is in its nature. If it isn't working out in your tank then you'll have to get rid of it. 

You've already got some great advice here that I totally agree with. Regardless of if your doing a reef tank or not, that admittedly awesome looking coral insert takes up waaaay too much space. 

Lol ya I know plywood sounds funny but for a large tank it's 100% the way to go. The main downside is that it is built in place and can't ever be moved.

Lol the front pane is usually acrylic. The rest is plywood. I think the owner at aquarium paradise said it cost like 1500 or 2000 to make opposed to having an acrylic tank built and shipped for like 15,000

Hey reefreef I'm in tacoma as well. My only advice for a tank that large is if you build it out of plywood you'll save thousands. Dominic over at aquarium paradise in lakewood has a large plywood tank in the store that he had built, I'd go talk to him about it. That tank is also where my puffer Gilbert lives now! 

I just got my reefbreeders v2+ 50 (47.5") in the mail last week and it is awesome. Way better colors and features then my old reefbreeders light. It said backordered when I bought it but it shipped the next day. 

I know it's different than what they are used too but I just wanted to give it a shot.

I'd think cleaning it via freezing or drying (which I haven't done yet) would be a good idea but I'm not worried about parasites a bit, everything in our tanks is from the ocean! 

Really my only concern is oil contamination (and that's a small concern, my tank seems to be able to survive anything) so I washed it really well. 

First type, not a bite. They are picky! 

Anybody ever try to feed their fish seaweed they picked up at the beach in the pacific northwest? Did you clean it or dry it somehow? 

I love the idea of using local nature to keep my tank going and this is my most recent thought. When I had a puffer it would eat shore crabs from the beach and I've only ever used beach sand for my tanks. 

So collecting your own seaweed, yay or nay? 

I've been eyeing those giant day geckos at the pet store, those are so cool! They remind me of being in Hawaii

Thanks for all of the info guys! I love this forum! I did look into the sb reef lights but didn't see a size that works for me (didn't know there was a 45" one) but they look pretty similar to my old light and I'm ready to change it up. I would've loved to try the reefi lights but I'm laid off right now and the wife and I decided it's not the best time to spend that much $. I did see at a frag swap recently that Daniel was using a pendant style prototype, it looked great, I'll be looking into it for my small tank if he starts selling them! 

Anyways we ordered the Reefbreeders v2+ 50. Im excited that it doesn't ramp up the colors on the hour, it is supposed to slowly ramp up throughout each hour. Logan gave us 10% off for being return customers and gave me a part for my old light for free. I think it came out to $643. But I'm a bit nervous since I've never seen the light on a tank (other than in pictures). It should be here at the end of the week so we'll see! 

Be very careful tightening that with a wrench! I have cracked that exact adapter before....

With a 60" tank you are looking at 3 fixtures in all likelihood, do your math based on that.  I have 2X XR30 on my 48" tank and am just waiting for a deal to add a third... the middle is too dark.  I may run them front to back instead of sideways, will see what the PAR meter says when I get the third.

 

Also consider the cost of mounting systems into the price, the mounting arm and diffusers add another $160 to each light for the xr30 Radions.  When you have more than two a horizontal track system becomes more cost effective if offered for whatever light you buy.

Hm thanks for the input. I don't remember where I got my info (maybe from Dana riddles r2r post) but I had it in my head that 2 reefi lights would be ok. 3 would be out of my price range

From what I've read you are right. Is there any data on how long its projected to last? Last time I was led shopping (6 yrs ago) all the lights were bragging about 50,000 hrs
