  1. I've got some sand anemones, they are very similar to rock nems accept they spit out one baby at a time (every few months) and they're way stickier all over. If left unchecked for too long they can take over a tank (I have to go in and get rid of about 9 a year).

Rock will most likely go into a FO tank and/or for seeding from some LR I already have.

Not sure if I'm understanding this correctly but the rock you have is dry, not live so you can't use it to seed other rock. Also, while cleaning it in acid or bleach and drying it in the sun is a great idea, those vermited snails and other pests are dead and won't be introduced into you tank.

I clean my skimmer neck every time I dump the skimmer.   Which means ~once a week.

I should have known everyone on here would be great about this kind of thing! If I would have posted this on R2R everybody would have been like "we're supposed to clean the skimmer body!?!?!?"

  4. Ok ok im convinced. I tried it on both of my tanks and it seems spot on. I'll start using this instead of my refractometers, at least until I break it (is there anything inside of it that'll nuke my tank when I break it?). I wonder what other old equipment I've tossed that is actually better than my new school stuff.

  5. i was just going through some old boxes of fish tank equipment and throwing away lots of little odds and ends and i came across this floating hydrometer. Are these any good? I can remember using it a few times but its been a loooooong time. Maybe i can put it in the sump permanently? Or the trash can works too, either way.

  6. I have a very strict quarantine procedure. All of my new fish are kept separate in their own bag from the time I pick them up at the lfs up until when I get home and drop them into my display tank. I do this every time, no shortcuts here! As a virus precaution I did take its temp when I got it, it was 78 degrees and hasn't changed

  7. Im pretty excited about this one since its something "new" that I've never come across before. We spent the weekend at beacon rock state park and detoured through portland on the way home and picked up a China wrasse (not sure if im supposed to be buying from china right now 😉) and a filter feeding cucumber at cfc.

The wrasse is awesome, i told the kids its a baby shark.

  8. These are what you want. We use them at work to carry heavy windows around. I've moved a few tanks with them as well. Ive seen them at construction supply stores and on eBay. Don't cheap out on suction cups, its not fun when they let go (ask me how i know....)

  9. Ok here we go, i don't qt at all. I have/had in my tank ich, vermited snails, aiptasia, hydroids, asterinas, uhhh what else? Lots more I'm sure.

I believe a truly established healthy system should be able to handle these things with no problems. I do sell corals from time to time and don't tell people about pests (not that I would make any attempt to hide them either). I wouldnt sell anything that i noticed a pest on though.

The fact is that if your concerned about these pests then your gonna dip or qt the things you buy from me. If you don't and you get a pest then that is your fault.

My tank is close to 10 years old now and packed with live rock and pests just arent able to take hold. I believe its the new tanks with dry rock that get overrun with pests.

Well thats my opinion anyways, feel free to rip me apart if you'd like!
