Also, when you say high vs good amount lower, what numbers are we talking about?

I second using salifert test, as mentioned they are easy to read and I have had consistent results from them.

Basically the color went from a dark orange to a very very light orange from the old test kit to the new one while they both say they aren’t expired. I just stopped at that point because I had no idea which one was correct or how to tell which one is... I will definitely try salifert nitrate test kit and see if that ones easier thanks again 👍🏻

I think most people will tell you that API test kits are not the best, especially for saltwater. I've had some wacky results with API as well in the past, I used them for freshwater tanks for years but switched to Salifert when I started with saltwater. I really like Salifert, they're affordable, easy to read and pretty accurate I think. Elos is another good brand too. Hanna checkers are nice but are more expensive, Red Sea is good too but if you want something reliable and affordable I'd recommend Salifert or Elos especially for nitrates. They're both pretty straight forward, easy and fast to use. I order mine on Amazon, they're quite a bit cheaper on Amazon than anywhere else I've found.  Sent from my moto g(7) using Tapatalk

Okay that is pretty much what I’ve heard about all the other type of tests from API I use Hanna alk, Phosphate ULR, and the calcium tester. I was under the impression that the nitrate kit from them was a good one to use but it really is very hard for me to read the results from it. Thanks a lot and I will give the salifert nitrate test a try 👍🏻

  3. Hey there, I have an older api nitrate test kit that still says it’s good until September but I was curious because it was giving me high readings so I got a newer one. The newer one reads a good amount lower when tested with same water so I’m wondering is this something people have also experienced? If so what nitrate test do you use that you feel is the best one? Thanks for any input 👍🏻

I run 2 Nero 5 on back of redsea 500 and never had one fall off, did you secure your cable with zip-ties?

Nice! Yea I went ahead and traded the pump to someone on here and got the WiFi icecap. Definitely happy with the trade and the new pumps overall spread of flow 👍🏻 Thanks for the help guys

Let me know how the wifi controllers work, I've been waiting to upgrade my 3k controllers. I love how they are backwards compatible, and that you can connect 2 gyres to one controller. So, I'm needing 3 wifi controllers. Don't even know if they are being sold separately, I should give them a shout... Bummer on your Nero.

Will do! Yea that is pretty cool of them to make them backwards compatible honestly kind of surprising with how people sell reef gear most the time. They are selling controllers and new pumps separately on their website and bulkeeefsupply and such which is another point for them👍🏻

  6. I got a Nero 5 about a month ago or so now and it will literally not stay on my Red Sea reefer 350 with the magnet it came with not even while it’s not running. It says it’s rated for this glass thickness so pretty annoyed with it. For any smaller of glass thickness I’m sure it would be fine and I love the control-ability of it but just won’t work for me. I am thinking of getting a icecap gyre 2k that’s WiFi controllable and replacing it and running a 2k on one side and 3k on the other, anyone have any reviews on the WiFi models? I know it’s pretty new so probably not but worth a shot and if anyone needs a Nero 5 for a smaller tank i will most likely have one for sale this week. Thanks for reading my rant and for any info you have 👌🏻

First, just to be clear - I don't have a Red Sea.  But I've read many people talk about cracking the bulk head ring.  And followed the links directly

    Fishtanksdirect.com -> Fish tanks -> by Brand -> Red Sea -> Replacement Parts -> Reefer 350

Scroll Scroll Scroll -> Red Sea replacement bulkhead ring

    https://www.fishtanksdirect.com/red-sea-replacement-bulkhead-ring.aspx

(Yes, it says they're out of stock)

For those who've cracked these... I assume it's the plastic bulkhead ring, not the O-Ring seal, that cracks.

Even if you don’t have a reefer, very helpful info! I emailed them asking when they might be in and if I could grab one when they do and am looking through other parts. Thank you again.

If you've waited this long, may be worth to wait a little longer...  And order TWO replacement rings and wait until they arrive before trying to tighten.  That way you have new ones in case you crack one (or two) trying to tighten.

    Just a thought.

That was actually my exact thought, I would pretty nervous to try to tighten it without a replacement there ready unfortunately with my tinkering skills. You’re saying it’s the actual o ring I would just need to replace though? I though it would be the whole pipe

Very easy to over tighten these and crack them. Have done it twice 😂. On the plus side it’s super easy to replace, first try cleaning it and tightening it up a bit to see if it’s loose.

If it’s cracked/defected fish tank direct carry’s all the plumbing parts.

Yea I have heard I was very worried about that when attaching so next water change empty out that return chamber completely and try to tighten it? Or just while it’s running I can try to tighten it up some you think? Also thanks for that website very useful 👌🏻

  10. Hey there, I am thinking that this is a silly question I believe it’s to the point where it needs to be addressed but I have been putting this off and it has gotten to be a good amount of salt creep now but I haven’t cleaned it off really ever. Do you get some salt creep from this pipe in this area as well? Or is this definitely too much and needs to be replaced. My issue is I am not sure if I will be able to get the part right now and also I have heard replacing that piping is very difficult. Thanks for any help!

    Works for me, too.

Have you tried rebooting your phone?  What if you turn off WiFi and access it over the cellular network?  If that works, then reboot your Internet router.

Yea tried all that, now am able to log into the app but just says unknown error when trying to connect to any light Or device offline. I guess I’m just glad they’re staying on the schedule they’re supposed to be on?

  12. Is anyone else able to log into their myai app? Or access the myai app through their computer? Because for me it says unknown error every time I try logging into it on my phone or iPad and the website will not load and says cannot access for some reason. I am thinking the server is down or something but wondering if other people are experiencing this as well. Thanks.

the one we have is about a foot long.  it's in a 54 gallon corner tank so we didn't have any other option for eels in that size tank.  i feed it LRS Reef Frenzy which has chunks of clams and other stuff.  Takes it right out of the tongs.  Feed it once or twice a week.

Awesome, you get it from cuttlefish? If anyone reading this thread has a place I can get a golden dwarf locally or someone who needs to get rid of one or something I would love to add one to my tank!

I have 2 engineer gobys (which are still pretty new tbh) and ya they dig but haven't done any damage. I also heard everyone saying they would topple my rockwork but what I've found is that's just people repeating info they've heard from other people that don't own the gobies themselves.

I did a R2R post on the subject and got some good advice from people that actually own engineer gobies and found that they aren't so bad. I can link it if you want.

That would be sweet, they are awesome fish that’s cool you have 2 together. I was thinking my best bets are Hawaiian golden dwarf or snowflake 👌🏻

golden dwarf moray eel is my only recommendation.  got one from CnC.  all the fish we have with it are pretty small and no problems yet.

Nice that was what I was thinking from the beginning I just would want kind of a bigger one if I could for this size tank because all of them I’ve seen were super small. I had one before but could never get it to eat no matter what I offered.... what do you feed yours and how long have you had it?

Any eel will potentially be a threat to your smaller fish. I'm not sure how big that tank is or if you have sand but check out then engineer goby. The adults look like eels

Yea I guess I agree. They are all healthy and active and I have seen a lot of tanks where they have made it work and I am curious of those experiences I guess and what each person would plan to do for one in my case. The engineer goby is super cool I just think it is very destructive in most cases I’ve seen and will dig to the point of moving your rockscape a lot of times I appreciate it tho 👌🏻

  16. Hey there, bored and in quarantine like most of us should be doin! Looking at my Red Sea reefer 350 and it has a blue tang, majestic fox face, 3 blue chromis, tri color fairy wrasse, 1 black cardinal, and a barbonius anthias. My lid is from clearviewlids and fits very well with no areas for escape. If this was your tank and you were wanting to add an eel, first off what one would you get for a reefer 350? Would you remove any fish to add the eel? Lastly where would you source it from in Portland area or from live Aquaria or something? Thanks for any input hope y’all are staying happy and healthy and have someone like my kitty to lounge around with!
