  1. I was looking at some lights today and saw these for only $72. Decided ill give them a try. 3 dimmable channels, but the only draw back is that they are not programmable. Ill have to find a way to wire a timer into the channels

  2. Yes - in fact the February meeting will be in the Kelso area so stay tuned for that.  The majority of meeting are closer to PDX - either at local shops or in members homes so there is quite the variety.  In the last year, we have had meetings in Tangent, Salem, WIlsonville, Newport, Kelso and several in PDX as we try and accommodate members from as wide an area as is feasible.
Sweet. Ill come the the kelso one for sure

  3. Happy New Years Everyone!!! 2018 is here, and that means another awesome year ahead of us here in the North West. As far as your favorite local club we have a great year opening meeting planned for January at the Salem Premium Aquarium! Be assured there will be plenty of good people with good conversation on the tons of subject matter at the Salem shop, they have a huge variety in salt water stock and that's no joke.

And don,t worry if you end up being famished from the drive to Salem, there will be pizza and beverages provided for our club members, but feel free to bring a dish or sweets if you would like too. Variety is the spice of life right.
So make plans to save the date, we always have fun when re roll out to Salem.
    When?---Saturday, January 27th, at 1:00PM - 4:00PM.
    Where?---1875 25th St SE, Salem, OR 97302
For those of you who have not been to a meeting at the TPA you are in for a good time. The crew there make great hosts and the selection of livestock and goods is always impressive.
Stay tuned for more info as it comes in on possible raffles and other specials.
Do we ever have meetings in Wa? Or will there be any in Portland?

  4. These lights are prone to having the Blue diodes burn out if you’re not already aware of that. If your not all you have to do is look at the fixture with diodes off and look for dark circles in the blue optics. They can and will still light up so it’s not always evident that  they are  burned or are burning out. I’ve owned at least 20 of these fixtures and it’s happened to everyone I own, have owned or know people who fall in the those same groups

great lights and easy repair tho

  5. So the day i set up my tank i added Fluval Cycle with Bio-Flocs. A week later i added Ammonia. 24 hrs later i checked parameters and they were spot on, so i added two Damsels. Nearly 2 weeks later all parameters are still good.

    As of today

    Ammonia: 0

    Nitrite: 0

    Nitrate: 20

    Calcium: 400

    SG: 1.025

Ph: 7.4 (a bit low. Ill check that again later)

Hi Brandon, welcome back to the hobby.  I recently had a similar hiatus and then got a new tank up just over a year ago.  Even when not active in the hobby I used to visit the local shops so definitely get the allure.  Interesting to see what has changed (and what hasn't) in the time away.  Enjoy your new build and maybe you can make it to one of the meetings this year to meet some folk in person.

A lot has changed in roughly 10 years! Back then t-5's and MH (although expensive) were the way to go. Now its all about LED, Wi-Fi, dimmable/programmable lights! lol no need for plug-in timers anymore. Tank Controllers and Monitors have also come a long way.

I'm looking forward too it, and yes! I'd like to come to a meeting sometime. I'm about 1hr 30min north of Portland.

  7. I read through the FAQ, but couldn't find an answer, unless I overlooked it?

Why does every post or thread I create here need approval by a mod? are there that many out-of-control posts here that require it to be that way? or is there something I missed when signing up?

Moderating gets irritating over time especially if your posting a thread looking for a quick reply of information.

    thanks
