1. did the UV sterilizer help with the dinoflagellates?
It did! In conjunction with a 3-day blackout, turning the skimmer off. Actually I did away with the skimmer altogether because to clean of water was part of the problem. And then adding the UV filter.

I can message you more about it so we don't completely hijack this thread, but basically dinoflagellates is a bacteria, not an LG like some people think it is so at night dinoflagellates releases itself into the water column because during the day they are photosynthetic and that's why they show up in the day not at night. Since the UV filter kills bacteria it kills dinoflagellates or at least assists in killing dinoflagellates. If that makes any sense

2. A UV will do next to nothing to keep your glass clean. Now if your water was green..thats a different story. I put a UV on my pond and it was like magic!

I have an 80? watt jebao on my tank. they are pretty cheap and work just fine. Its just a light bulb in a tube, no need to go overboard. At least that is my take on them.

What he said^^. I got one for water clearity (and at the time i had dinoflagellates) . Since i got it i still have to clean the glass every 3-4 days. It basically clears water of certain bacteria not algae. Thats my understanding

3. Quick update...
Looks like one of our killer admins has found a location based member mapping app for our platform that may do a lot of what we want plus some other things.  Stay tuned as this will require some discussion about how it could be incorporated if we go that direction - currently under discussion in the officer/board forum.
Just to clarify, this is actually a plug in for the existing site...  don't want to offend our tech guys by mischaracterizing it!
Heck ya!

4. I like this idea. I often wondered if we could mine the profile data for this in some way to maybe display a map view. Pinging our admin pros to see if it’s even possible.  TheClark Chief  If not, we could do something like you suggest that is self select.
While a self select thread would be great, would be even better to have a Forum with localized sub-forums for each state. We'll see what they say! [emoji2]

5. Can we have a "Location" stick thread or forum to find hobbiests in a more localized area? Example; Southwest, northwest, southeast, northeast regions of each state in the Pacific Northwest? Would make it easier for locals to meet up for local trades, sales, tank help, etc..

Or at least experiment with the idea? I live in Napavine, Washington and its hard to find users in this area.

Maybe its a horrible idea, but worth a shot.

6. Today i finished the build.

First thing first. Used 3 inch pvc pipe and cap, and used a router to cut my overflow 'were' (
2. Built the 'fail proof' overflow out of 1" pvc and used 3/4" for the return.

3. Mixed 40 lbs of black sand with 2 lbs of with for a little pop.

4. Built stand

5. When i built the stand, i built it too tight for my 20g sump, so i built a simple 10g sump with fuge in middle.

6. Finished plumbing and started it up.

Equipment:
- jeabo rw8 wavemaker and hydor 425 powerheads
- QuietOne 3000 return pump
- Random 150w Heater
- Gealth led Marine lights (company was only around for 6 months. Nice lights though) c0b52d9dd06c28f7290cff3ca7fa88d4.jpg539c1d75378dbc88298e3f223cee7b8c.jpg84121f222f442a50328e142e89f2fcec.jpg73bc1328d7869eb721aa968a888dbf88.jpgf9289c3fb540b12c4bf3422f33c0d48d.jpg

7. Minor setback. Built the stand for the tank and not the sump! So now the sump i had custom built wont fit!. So i bought a little 10g and threw some baffles in it. Middle will be a fuge spot.

Btw... im horribly messy with silicone. I should've used masking tape for cleaner lines1db46cb2dfa8e2ccf5e9628a72b4ec87.jpg
