You can get the standards to test the accuracy of the checker.  As long as you keep them stored in their protective light proof box and don't scratch them up they should be good for quite a while.

Watch out for the hose clamps.  I have used several of the SS hose clamps in non-saltwater applications and the nut/tensioners have all rusted when the band and housing have not.

Ditch the clamp and screws and use the nylon plastic ratchet clamps.

Do you know that new generators don't ship with Oil, and some have low oil detectors and will refuse to start without out any...    I bought my generator "lightly used."   Turns out, it was Never used - still completely dry.  And of course, I'd never tried it before.     Added oil yesterday, started on first pull.   I'm now set for whatever today's ice storm brings.

They usually ship with a bottle of oil in the box.
