  1. These are what I use in my sump. I got them at Ace Hardware. Chaeto grows good and also have coraline growing as well.

    Laugh it up fuzz ball.

I found a 6500k bulb I had laying around, I will see how that does.

  2. I had the same issue. Not only cyano but other nasty green slime, and bubble algae. I replumbed my return for more flow and reduced my lights on time from 12 hours to 8. No more cyano and the other slime is only in little patches in the corners.

I also get some weird bacterial spines from time to time.

I think I need to switch bulbs, increase flow in that chamber and reduce photo period down there too.

  3. Yesterday I switched out my sump light, because even when it was off, if I held the t5 fixture and touched the side of the sump I got an electrical shock, so I switched to a desk lamp.  what would be a good bulb to put in there?

that photo shows the old t5 lamp that was set up.  It comes on at night opposite hours of the display.

  4. Has anyone else run into getting cyano in their sump areas.  I used to get some in the display, but it has gone away and now I see it in the sump, it coats  my macro algae and chokes it out.  Its a low flow area so every day I need to manually agitate it or blow it off the macros and sump rocks.

  5. I have a few things for sale right now in my tank.  Prices are listed on the photos, hopefully they can be seen when you click on the photo or view in gallery.  I am located in Keizer, PM me for texting.

  6. I remember that!

Didn't you end up having to use a metal coat hanger to get it out?

Yep it's unbelievably important to keep all critters out of the drains especially with all the gate/ball valves we have on our systems.

Yah I had to make a hook and grab the shell, he survived until he jammed his shell into a baffle hole on my sump, where he perished.

  7. Go to Lowes or HD and pick up some gutter guard and cut a small piece and roll it and stick it in there leaving it sticking out of the water a bit, this will quiet it down a little and will also keep fish and snails out.

And believe me keeping snails out is very important. (Stupid giant hermit plugging my main drain with turbo shell).

  8. So for the last two years I can hear some clicking in my tank. I always sneak up and try to find the source but have never figured it out. I have emerald crabs but they haven't been in there for very long.

What things make clicking sounds in your tanks?

Pistol shrimp? Mantis? I would think that I would have seen something by now.

  9. They are extremely fragile. I feel like if a turbo snail ran through mine it would break branches off. It may have just been to heavy at that spot?
