  2. Went from a beta to a 55 reef almost a year ago, then got my 135 Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  3. I would say remove 90% of the water with somewhat of a high gph pump into a large container, move the Tank with a small amount of water but keep it on the stand. Move the whole thing but with minimal water. Then when you have it moved fill it back up. The coral should be fine. Just like when fragging they come out of the water. I would never move it with water above 1/4 because the glass could crack so easily. As long as you don't mess with the sandbed there should be no cycle. Just my thoughts Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  4. We are en route! Going to be a little late Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  5. My understanding of a DSB is also that the bacteria that builds up in it disposes of the waste by turning it to gas form. Removing this large piece of natural biological filtration could cause a large problem. Just like when carbon is left in a reactor for a long period of time it builds up biological filtration instead of mechanical filtration and at that point changing your carbon could could make your system unstable and it's recommended to replace only a portion of your carbon in that case. I do a lot of research from many sources in my spare time and have heard this from many sources. Never have I heard of swapping a DSB because it builds to much waste, nor would I ever do so. I like to look at my tank as how does a real reef work and at what point can I stop changing my water? When I have all the elements to purify the water that the reef uses. IE: Cryptic zone(non photosynthetic organisms pulling nutrients from the water column) Refugium(Also pulling nutrients from the water but require photosynthesis) and A DSB which has small living organisms that physically eat waste and turn it to a gas. Just like how earth worms do to enrich soil, they are beneficial in the health of soil and promoting plant growth. I'm not trying to argue with anyone's thoughts or opinions. I just like the natural side of things. Not so many fancy things
  6. The yellow tang looks so confused. Wouldn't that eat him if he touched it? Or atleast sting him?
  7. Definitely what im looking for. Perfect size and everything. Just waiting for lights out so I can set it up
  8. I've heard raising the temp by 2-3 degrees than it's normal temp and raising ph slightly with help get it cycled out but I don't know that from experience. Just from a person who did it.
  9. Nice idea Thomas. I just saw this thing today and it's awesome. Really impressed with the design and how much detail you put into it. If you put that much into a reptile tank your reef tank is gonna be nuts(nutty) Definitely can't wait to see it. Thanks for the reflectors Chris, hope you can make it to the meeting to meet some more people from the club. Everyone is really great and always has great ideas and advice. I'll have to come by and see that enclosure when you've got him all settled in it. (naughty)
  10. hmmmm. I might try this, but i'm an over doer so I would most likely use a 55 gallon bucket Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  11. Lol I came here looking for a mastiff or great Dane, ha! Glws gorgeous chalice. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  12. That's right. i'm a nice guy but I don't mind ****ing in someone's Cheerios... If they deserve it ofc. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  13. Nice. I need to start looking on craigslist more lol Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  14. Try flushing the air inlet with fresh water. The air and saltwater mixture can build up salt crystals and its good to take a cup of ro water and let the air hose suck it out of the cup to blast the salt build up once a week. I would also clean the cup thoroughly every week and dry the tube before the cup to allow skim to stick easily. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  15. From my understanding dsb should never be touched or replaced. So that's what i'm doing. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  16. I've got some natures ocean sugar fine if needed. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  17. So, when I started halides I got this with some radium bulbs then started reading all about the m80 ballast and grabbed one from Mitchell a month later lmao. I can't see a difference but i'm gonna take every ones word they are for radiums. I was going to keep it as backup but I decided to just let it go. I got it on sale for 139 used for a month and plenty of time left on the warranty. Have receipt. i'm asking 115 firm because of is condition. I know how everybody loves threads with pics so much so I took plenty. :D:D Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  18. Thanks Harold, I read that if the volume of cryptic zone isn't as large if not larger than the display then its not as effective. That's why i'm doing Refugium and cryptic Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  19. A ways down the road. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  20. My wife and I will be there. Looking forward to seeing all these coral I've seen you buying Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  21. I'm actually not going to be siphoning it. I'm using sugar fine sand for the beneficial bacteria. Dsb. My whole system will consist of 135 display overflow to 55 cryptic zone Tank, overflow to 55 gallon Refugium, overflow to 29 gallon sump, then reeflo snapper back to the display. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  22. And I haven't looked into a starter kit. If a live rock can grow sponge in a bucket with no help, I don't think ill need a starter kit. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  23. I'm interested in the cryptic because when I first started the hobby I had a rock sitting in a bucket of saltwater for two months. No light, no flow, nothing. When I opened it up it was covered in a white sponge. So this is how I look at it. Grass needs light and water to grow. Algae need light and water to grow and consumes nitrates and phosphates to help it. These organisms living in complete dark are taking stuff from the water column to grow. No need for light. The benthic zone of a reef is larger then the surface reef. That's how it keeps up and keeps it clean. I'm no college grad and I don't have a degree so call me an idiot if I sound like one Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  24. If a mod wants to get me this guys IP address I would make sure his computer never works again... Its really pissing me off. Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
  25. Call me and maybe we can work something out. I don't want to low ball you. Maybe we can work out payment plan/future frag like you wanted. I have a few nice zoas i'm growing right now. Thanks, Kori Sent from Samsung Galaxy SII
