I agree on variety. I have many spawning fish (chromis, anthias, gobies, etc.) and believe variety is essential. unlike cats and dogs who can eat one specific type of food, fish in an aquarium and usually different species and have different nutritional requirements. Also there isnt much research on aquarium fish food, more marketing. I usually feed daily but sometimes miss days. Smaller more frequent feedings are better than one large one, but who has the time haha! I feed Frozen: Rods food (regular and herb), mysis, enriched brine, cyclopeeze, etc. as well as canned: mysis, omega one flakes, formula 2 pellets, microcrabs. When I have lots of baby banggais I feed lots of live baby and adult enriched brine. I also go as far as to switch up supplements, different HUFAS, Zoe, spirulina etc.

I agree higher is better but I dont know how MUCH better it is...while the microfauna doesnt have to travel through a pump, I still kinda feel a minimal amount travels to the surface to be swept up into the overflow so I am still an advocate of harvesting chaeto or ogo and shaking it into the main tank every few months.

DONT USE COPPER! it will kill it...be very careful with medicines...it is very hard on puffers/boxfish. Make sure he isnt being picked on, the slighest stress is bad. They are expert fish for sure. have saltwater and carbon ready....

I too think they are probably safe. They pop up time to time in sump and fuges, can be an indicator of increased nutrients. Kinda like bristleworms, less waste and they will fade away.

they shouldnt need to ban it...the hobby should do that...stop buying them and they wont have a reason to collect them...I agree, seen alot come and go.

that actually happened to me in my old apt complex....I was cleaning it on my back porch, went inside to get carbon to refill and its gone...someone had to have been watching...funny thing is the top motor and tubes werent there, they must have really wanted those bins and outerbody lol.... Sorry for your loss...what goes around comes around.

how expensive depends on many things...are you going GFCI? thats an expense...how far from panel to destination...how easy it is to move the outlets...how many outlets there are...what kind of breaker... Its usually pretty easy and can be done by yourself if you own it...I can help you answer specific questions like what gauge wire, outlets, hookups, etc. If you are afraid of the electricity you can save ALOT of money to cutting the outlets...hooking up the wiring...and just have them actually hook up the actual breaker....but honestly...im 26 and I just wired my fish room...mine was complex so I had my electrician uncle from intel look it over first. I have 3 circuits, for different areas and lights. It can be tedious work, but you really don't want to pay someone $80/hr to hookup outlets...it can be much cheaper to DIY which leaves room for more custom-ability. lol

yeah kyle aka badguitarist has a really nice greenhouse setup...getting the kinks out...the lighting is good in winter but needs extreme shading in summer...

never ran it dry...I do this for a living. call it what you want, the seal failed, they are the ones saying it was a bad batch and sent me a new one...hence mixed experience not bad experience. A seal failing will cause water to leak... and I have never heard of a pump with so many people having to replace seals multiple times in the life of a pump...makes me think they are profiting off of seal sales rather than fix the issue. Almost like a horror story on reef central of someone selling SPS ridden with redbugs and also selling interceptor on a different thread...why fix the prob when you can profit off the cure too? Sorry to get off topic lol I still have the seal and pump if anyone wants to buy it cheap and fix it...my system is worth too much to risk it..

the wet end is what failed, the bearing that melted is the waterproof seal...no plastic/rubber = not water proof

I have had mixed experiences with REEFLO help, I personally don't use them anymore. Had so many issues with them they were practically on speed dial. Good customer service is a good thing but why dont they fix the problem? (probably cuz they still profit if they dont) I have had countless bearings go out. I heard they had a bad batch of replacement bearings a few years ago (something with the rubber composition from....who else? CHINA!) They sent me a new one. Then they started to question my installation methods, I sent them pics of everyone for approval, all were overkill and approved. Personally I think they have such good service because if they didn't, no one would come back. To stay in business with a sub-par product for the price, you must have good service. I have gotten the dart gold or hammerhead trade in speech...for a nominal feee...blah blah...do they not like the dart either? so switch to trade it out? just really makes me question their intentions. Someone should send them all these repair threads! WARNING: One of the failures was catastrophic, The "bad-batch" bearing failed within a few hours, locking up and melting (thermal protection helps motor not plastic/rubber) and basically started pumping on the floor (yes 3200gph in a 200 gallon system, you must act fast before it is all on the floor!)

thats good they are helping you...I know a lot of manufactuers now-a-days are wanting to deal with warranty issues themselves...it can be risky for a LFS to take that burden on themselves not knowing if they will be compensated....kudos to whomever it is. Thats what I have heard as well...I am thinking about bait shops or asian markets. I believe most have a migration pattern and tolerate different temps/salinities. I know there are a bunch of species though. I have seen the Monteray Bay exhibit. I am thinking something along those lines just a smaller school

I am working with a client that wants a "bonsai tuna-school" look to their 160 gallon 3 foot diameter cylinder tank. They are a fish market, and also specialize in live foods such as crab, fish etc. They are wanting a display tank that could possibly be used for food fish. Anyone kept sardines or anchovies in captivity? I think this might achieve the look they are looking for. Too bad lookdowns get too big
