  1. Well then I guess it is my fault because I've had it for about a month...lol. I was at the shop the other day and found out that he splits them once in awhile. Not sure if this one was done that way but I think I'm going to refrain from saying from where since I like the guys there...(whistle) But I will just keep offering it some food and see where it takes me. Thanks again
  2. So it ate this morning. first time in over a week. From what I understand it's ok to feed them once a week as they eat other stuff throughout the week from leftovers in the tank. I am leaning more and more towards getting rid of it though just for the fact that I don't have the funds for the proper lighting to keep him going the right way. I will keep you guys posted and thanks for all the help! Probably a dumb questions but I assume you work at SWF chewie? I haven't figured out everyone's screen names yet..
  3. Getting the one on craigslist I see... I just got mine home from about an hour and a half drive. The fish did fine in the water that I kept (which was about 70 gallons or so). The rock was just covered by the water in a huge rubermaid container. mine didn't have any corals on it so I couldn't help you there but they should be fine from my personal experience. But that being said I've only been doing salt tanks now for about 2 months...lol Good luck, looks like a great setup for the price! I was looking into the rock myself but I think it would have been way too much.
  4. So someone was telling me the other day that I should get rid of the blue hippo tang in my tank and I'd have to agree with them. I had no idea these fish got so big. I bought the tank with these fish in it and I have been selling them off but I'd like to do something kind of cool but smaller and i came across these Blue Throat Triggers. They look really cool and from what i've read from most sites these guys seem to be ok with reefs. Has anyone had any luck with these?
  5. I got this last week from a generous donor but it doesn't seem to like my tank. I'd like to trade if for some different coral like some zoa's or something but since I got this at no cost it's not a big deal to me. I just need it out of my tank so If your interested in it please PM me so we can get it back to life! I've got the next couple of days off so please come get it! Thanks!
  6. Yeah just looking at some of the pics it looks a lot like that one. I'd like this thing to stay healthy so I think I may end up getting rid of it. I'd hate for it to die from my stupidity on not having the right lighting. I checked again with the API strip just now when I got home and same thing everything is fine. The one thing I did notice is that it says that these anenomes need lots of water flow. He happens to be on the complete other side from where my water pump is so maybe he's just not happy with the water flow either. I am so glad that I joined this forum! You guys are a lot of help! I've become addicted to this site!
  7. sorry chewie, I use API test strips. I assume this is ok? If not any suggestions on this would be great. I stopped by the shop I got it at today and they said they are having the same thing go on with the other two green BTA's there as well. From what it sounds like these guys like a lot more light than what I have, and wouldn't you know it I guess it was right. I just got home and it decided to climb up the wall of the tank and it's at the water line so I'm guessing my lights just aren't going to cut it with this guy. I can't really justify 500 for a new balast with MH so I think I might have to get rid of this guy..
  8. Sorry, they are at 0 I should have made that clear not aprox.. Thanks for letting me know about the water, and I will try the prawns later today!
  9. I offered it some food this morning and it dropped it so now my hermit crabs are fighting over it. I see that most people are feeding silver sides. I've been feeding half pieces of krill. Maybe I should switch foods?
  10. pH is 8.0 Nitrates and Nitrites almost nothing. Salinity is at 1.024 Temp 78.1 all this morning I'd rather just buy the water and mix it myself for a day so I don't have to pay the higher prices of the mixed. But each shop says they have the better water and I have no clue since I'm new to this. I guess either one is better than tap....
  11. I checked my nitrates and everything last friday and did a 30 gallon water change. It wasn't anything out of the normal but I had not done a larger water change since I've had the tank. I've gone to both Saltwater Fantaseas and Seahorse NW and not sure which water to get for the tank. any suggestions would be great on that one as well. I might need to do another post for that one though.
  12. ahhh, I'm using a Refractometer. I think I spelled that right. I aligned it from tap water like it says to, to get to zero.
  13. I was trying to post a picture but for some reason it doesn't want to work for me. I will try again this morning.
  14. So I'm going to sound like a noob but what's SG? I woke up this morning and the anenome was open and looks much better. I've been feeding it frozen krill, is that ok?
  15. I wish that were the case. The clown doesn't want anything to do with either of the anenomes.
  16. I haven't fed mine in a week or so now but it's stayed deflated all night tonight so I wasn't sure if it would accept anything tonight as it is. I will try and offer it something in the morning again and see if that helps. That's crazy about the lights. I have been told by some of the local shops that this lighting shouldn't be a problem with these guys. Since I can't afford to get new lighting should I look into trading it back in? I want to do what's right for the BTA is all. The other anenome that I have is doing great but it's quite a bit larger. I appriciate everyone's suggestions so far as of course I'm still learning every day. This is so much different from my fresh water setups.. Thanks again!
  17. 75 gallon TruVu 1.024 78 degrees good water flow T5 dual actinic and 12k daylight tank was setup for a year when I got it and have now had it for around 1 1/2 months. lots of good growth in the tank for my live coral. The BTA is a very small one as well (not sure if that matters or not). Should I try to move the rock to the other side of the tank where there is more flow?
  18. So I've research out BTAs and I see that they do deflate quite frequently but I got a long tenticle anenome more recently and it only deflates once a day. My green BTA seems to deflate on and off all day. It takes krill just fine but it seems to deflate all the time. I have read that it could just be adjusting to the tank but I've had it in the tank for around a month now and it hasn't changed it's personality yet. Should I be concerned about it at all? I was going to take pics of it but the position it's in currently you wouldn't see much of it in the pic, and I don't have an underwater camera. I'm sure my wife wouldn't be crazy about me droping her new digital camera in the tank either... Any help or suggestions would be great. Even if it means that I'm just being to excited over nothing and I just need to let it do it's thing.
  19. any pics of the coral? I might be interested in both. I've been looking for a wrase
  20. Yeah I'd be interested in checking out other's tanks! I will be off on Thursday and Friday so maybe I could meet up with some of you guys then. Not a big deal this week if it doesn't happen. I appriciate all the help everyone has already given me.
  21. It's an acrylic tank, do they make a magnet scraper that won't scratch it? If so where can I get one? This would make it so much easier to deal with. Should I allow the alge to grow on the back wall?
  22. Yeah the tang came with the tank when I bought it. As of right now the Foxface is the largest of the bunch. I'm sure within the next few months I will want to do some trades with either some of you guys online here or a local shop for some diffrent fish. I've already lost a diamond goby, a fu man chu lion fish (not going to try that one again but he had some amazing colors), and a star fish (not going to do that again either). I bought a few smaller frags from some of the shops in town here but again most of what is seen in the pics was from a generous donor from the forms. I was expecting a small frag or two and he really hooked me up. I did my first major water change two nights ago about 30 gallons and everything seems to be happier in the tank. I have done 3 other smaller changes around 15-20 gallons but thought that a larger one was in order. Every time I test my water it seems to be just fine. I use a refractometer to test the salinity and it typically tests around 1.023 to 1.025. I have heard good and bad about these but I hear they are better than a hydrometer. Temp is 77.8 to 80 degrees at all times. I have a small BTA that seems to deflate quite a bit still but it's only been about 3 weeks so I'm sure it will just need sometime to adapt to the tank.
  23. Just uploaded a few pics. would love to have a full reef tank to get rid of some of that blue background I have in the tank right now... The ballast has 4 T5 bulbs not sure what brand of a ballast it is though. I'm working on posting pics as we type.
  24. Oh yeah I forgot to talk about lighting... T5 ballast with 12k daylights, 65 watt actinic lights and the night time led's. I also bought a rock a few weeks ago and noticed that it came with a couple of straglers.. namely some worms.. any ideas on what to do to get rid of these guys?
  25. Hey everyone so I've just recently been brought into the world of saltwater. I have been dealing with African Cichlids for awhile now and figured the next way to graduate up would of course be a saltwater tank. I currently have a 75 gallon TruVu tank with a Tunze protien skimmer etc... I bought the tank used and it has been cycled for around a year now. I have 50-75lbs of live rock and tanks to a very nice person on the boards "David" I now have a decent amount of live coral in the tank as well. Livestock in the tank are as follows (at least that I know of): 1 Coral Beauty 2 Fire Fish 1 Dragon Goby 1 Blue Hippo Tang 1 Clown 1 Foxface 1 Green Bubble tip anenome 1 long tentecle anenome 1 Fire Shrimp Lots of snails Any help would be appricated in helping me out with knowing what to do with salt tanks. I have of course made my rounds to most of the local shops and they are probably already getting sick of me.. so any other suggestions on how to keep the tank somewhat easy maintence would be great. One question that I do have is if it is neccesary to have a cooler for the tanks. I have AC and my house even on the really hot days usually never gets hotter than 78 degrees with AC.
