  1. yeah that one's not going to work for me... just the sticker shock alone... I'm sure it's a great pump but I need something a little more on the economy side. Thanks for the fast reply though.
  2. So I see that Hydor has come out with new pumps and wanted to know if anyone has had good or bad experience with them. I currently am not running anything in my tank other than my return pump that keeps a good current on one side of the tank and I know I need one for the otherside. So far everyone has been extremely helpful so I figured I'd give it a shot and see what everyone's opinions were on these pumps.
  3. I've been holding off saying anything because of course I feel the same way as every person here. I don't know frank but just reading his follow up comment to all of your outreach was amazing. I'm new to the forum (hence the name) and just realize that this world needs more people like frank. I didn't go to the meeting but I can't believe the outreach everyone has had on this. It makes me feel good that I found an impressive group to follow and soon to become a member of. I hope you find it soon.
  4. I picked it up on Thursday. It's doing great in my tank.
  5. I just bought a Bluejaw from SWF. They still have quite a few larger ones in stock. Pretty sure he had a pair in the tank as well. Just go see Patrick and he'll hook you up!
  6. I hadn't added an iodine supplement for a few weeks. Swf said the same thing. My own stupidity caused it from what it sounds like.. Sucks being new at something when you kill stuff...
  7. There was definate meat inside of it. I've seen the molt in the tank before and freaked out but this was definately not molt. The guys down at SWF hooked me up with some new shrimp. I know it was not neccessary but they are always cool to have in the tank. I really don't think the trigger did anything with it since it probably would have eaten it whole. Thanks you guys!
  8. So I bought a Bluejaw trigger last night and I don't know if it decided that my fire shrimp looked good enough to eat or if a rock fell over on it but I had to pull him out of the tank this morning (back was split but still attached). I'm in need of some sort of cleaner shrimp for my tank but I'd like to know what type of shrimp everyone would think would be alright for this fish. It was in it's little cave so I really don't think the fish could have done it but you never know. I don't think I'm ready to spend the money on another Fire Shrimp but I will get one again. Any ideas would be great and if you've got some for sale let me know. Would like to go get something this morning!
  9. Well the good news is the trigger looks great in my tank. The bad news is I just noticed that my Blood Shrimp was split in half over the night.... This Sucks. He was in his little den that he always stayed in. I can't really blame the trigger but it was an impressive co-incident that he's dead the same night I get the trigger. Not sure what shrimp I should get now to replace my little buddy.. And the fact that I need to do it before my son gets home from school or he's going to freak out that the shrimp died...lol
  10. Your pictures are showing me two things.. I either need a new camera, or I need to learn how to be patient and not rush the picture. lol Amazing fish though
  11. glad you could use it in your tank. I left to go pick up a fish today and when I got back the few pieces I got from you were moved somewhere in the tank by the snails... I should have done something with them but oh well..
  12. Just got one from Saltwater Fantaseas the one down at Rose City didn't look so hot. Great deal thanks for taking care of me fellas.. I've bought a few things from these guys so far and they haven't done me wrong once. Once I get it acclimated and setup I will post some pics. I've been waiting for a Trigger and now I've got one. I feel like a little kid again with a new toy.. Thanks again for all the posts. If it decides to start picking on my fish or inverts I will let you know.
  13. not sure if I need both of these but did you get any bites on them yet? I was looking more for a 2 or 3 but just wanted to see if you still had them.
  14. I noticed that Rose City Aquarium has one in stock so I think I might go down and check it out today. Maybe I can trade him my fish? never been down there before so we will see.. My Hippo is about 4" not sure what a fair trade value would be but I can't imagine that I could go wrong at a shop. I think the person that bought my tank originally was trying to build a Finding Nemo tank, and just didn't realize the size of the fish at the end of their growth to adult hood. I had a Koran Angel in here that I already sold off that was around 6-7". I just want these guys to have a good home. I'm not looking to overstock the tank with fish since my main goal is to have more reef than fish. The only worry I have is the clown and fire fish with the trigger. They were fine with the angel so I hope it won't be too bad as long as it's fed.
  15. and it's gone! Thanks again and I hope you have better luck in your tank than I did. It was just too nice of a piece to not share with.
  16. Sweet! Thanks you guys. The only other issue that I thought about is that I have a fire shrimp. Will it eat this guy? He's decent size and from what I hear they only live 2-3 years as it is (the shrimp).
  17. Well then I guess it is my fault because I've had it for about a month...lol. I was at the shop the other day and found out that he splits them once in awhile. Not sure if this one was done that way but I think I'm going to refrain from saying from where since I like the guys there...(whistle) But I will just keep offering it some food and see where it takes me. Thanks again
  18. So it ate this morning. first time in over a week. From what I understand it's ok to feed them once a week as they eat other stuff throughout the week from leftovers in the tank. I am leaning more and more towards getting rid of it though just for the fact that I don't have the funds for the proper lighting to keep him going the right way. I will keep you guys posted and thanks for all the help! Probably a dumb questions but I assume you work at SWF chewie? I haven't figured out everyone's screen names yet..
  19. Getting the one on craigslist I see... I just got mine home from about an hour and a half drive. The fish did fine in the water that I kept (which was about 70 gallons or so). The rock was just covered by the water in a huge rubermaid container. mine didn't have any corals on it so I couldn't help you there but they should be fine from my personal experience. But that being said I've only been doing salt tanks now for about 2 months...lol Good luck, looks like a great setup for the price! I was looking into the rock myself but I think it would have been way too much.
  20. So someone was telling me the other day that I should get rid of the blue hippo tang in my tank and I'd have to agree with them. I had no idea these fish got so big. I bought the tank with these fish in it and I have been selling them off but I'd like to do something kind of cool but smaller and i came across these Blue Throat Triggers. They look really cool and from what i've read from most sites these guys seem to be ok with reefs. Has anyone had any luck with these?
  21. I got this last week from a generous donor but it doesn't seem to like my tank. I'd like to trade if for some different coral like some zoa's or something but since I got this at no cost it's not a big deal to me. I just need it out of my tank so If your interested in it please PM me so we can get it back to life! I've got the next couple of days off so please come get it! Thanks!
  22. Yeah just looking at some of the pics it looks a lot like that one. I'd like this thing to stay healthy so I think I may end up getting rid of it. I'd hate for it to die from my stupidity on not having the right lighting. I checked again with the API strip just now when I got home and same thing everything is fine. The one thing I did notice is that it says that these anenomes need lots of water flow. He happens to be on the complete other side from where my water pump is so maybe he's just not happy with the water flow either. I am so glad that I joined this forum! You guys are a lot of help! I've become addicted to this site!
  23. sorry chewie, I use API test strips. I assume this is ok? If not any suggestions on this would be great. I stopped by the shop I got it at today and they said they are having the same thing go on with the other two green BTA's there as well. From what it sounds like these guys like a lot more light than what I have, and wouldn't you know it I guess it was right. I just got home and it decided to climb up the wall of the tank and it's at the water line so I'm guessing my lights just aren't going to cut it with this guy. I can't really justify 500 for a new balast with MH so I think I might have to get rid of this guy..
