  2. So my wife has folded and she paid the family membership fee so now we are officially reef junkies.(clap)
  3. i haven't found 30" vhos, but i have found 30", 31watt HO bulbs.
  4. it is done. now i wait for the tank to cycle and the fun will begin. i ended up with 2 23w(100w) spirials and i snuck in a 9w actinic both on seprate plugs, so i can try the 1 hour of actinic, followed by 8-9 hours of both actinic and daylight. we will see how it goes.
  5. well, the 50/50 mix worked. a little too good though. i didn't notice the bends in the reflector were covered in "rust" before i started. when i finished, i found that it was the only thing holding the top and sides together. i now have a 3 piece reflector, but on the bright side, it looks just like a mirror now.
  6. a build thread would be great, but i have about an hour on it tomorrow skinning the frame and it will be done. it would have been done today, but the glue wouldn't dry fast enough.
  7. i have to work on the layout, but i'm thinking of 2 23w(100w) spirials and a 9w straight pin actinic, that i have laying around, in the middle. i'm heading off to build the hood in a little bit, but by my layout so far, i think i can get it all in there.
  8. i looked it up and, by what i can tell, it worked with softies, other than the alge. i wonder how it is going now.
  9. ok. i will get on that right now. thanks
  10. does anyone know if spirial cfls on a 5g hex tank will work to grow frags? i have an idea that i would like to try, but i don't want to lose frags if it doesn't work. i have a 13w(60w) 6500k in the hood at the moment, but i am building a new hood today. with the new hood, i should be able to bump up to 23w(100w) bulb or bulbs depending on layout.
  11. ok, i finally have pics of my first try at a brand new saltwater tank. this wasn't a previously owned tank. it was a tank i had laying around and i thought i would throw some parts and pieces together to see what i could come up with. how did i do?[/img][/img]
  12. are you going to be around today. i will pick it up today if that will work.
  13. not sure yet. couldn't find any vineger. i will pick some up tomorrow and let you know
  14. ok. i will pull the fixtures off and try it. if it doesn't work, i can always make a new one. thank you.
  15. i will try the vinigar+water. any idea on sollution ratio?
  16. i just picked up a small light that has a 12" reflector. it is covered in salt and corosion. does anyone know what to use to get it back to being shiny(or some what close to shiny). and if anyone knows how to tell what a ballast will push would be great as well. i tried to look it up, but i couldn't find it. it is a custom sea life sl-37 ballast. thanks
  17. if you still have it, i would like to get it to use on my tank. i can pick it up tomorrow if that will work.
  18. if you can wait until sunday, i would like to come and get them.
  19. i have a pic in my album of the two rock walls my wife made for my 33 longs. they turned out great.
  20. post #6 is where the pics are.
  21. i think it is just a short 55. it looks to be the same width as the 55 i have sitting next to it. i figured i would use it because it is pretty scratched up and it was free. i built a sump for my 150g malawi out of an old 26g (36"long) and it works pretty darn good for that. i have a refugium in the middle for amano shrimp, a bristlenose pleco, and a few guppies that i breed for food. that was my practice run. i think there is a blurry pic of it in the pics i put in this thread.
  22. well the original plan was to use one of those double 55 stands and have a 55 tank and a 50 sump. these are all things i already have or can build. i think i can stay with the idea by modifing the stand to hold a 75. thats my problem, i'm ALWAYS in the design mode. until i get it together, i will redesign it a thousand times.
  23. sounds great. thank you very much. i'm just starting to get my feet wet with a 12g eclipse and a 30g with a t5 fixture running a 21w 10k and a 21w actinic. it has, what i was told, a tree coral on a piece of live rock, a few small feather dusters, hermits, snails, some green macro algae, as i was told, and a white sponge looking thing that looks like a blob on one of the rocks. i'm pretty sure i'm running way to low on the lighting at the moment, but when the funds pick up a little, i will get my 55 or 75(haven't decided yet) up and running and use the light i picked up from movinfast.
  24. would you like few. i have a little bit of everything.
