  3. So ahh, aparently I haven't been paying too much attention to the fish...(whistle) I worked out of town for a while, been back for a little over a week. Just noticed my anthias is missing(scratch) Not on the floor, no where to be found. My wife and I can't even remember the last time we saw him. Oops...

    Which salt??

If a group buy were to happen, I would be in for two buckets of Kent. Ha Ha

    Which salt??

Thanks for the input guys. I was thinking Kent, have heard good things, and it seems to be readily avaliable. Looks to be working for some of you, so I will probably go that way. Thanks again Gabe
  6. Ok, so I have finaly decided to upgrade my salt. Everything in the tank seems to do well, but not really thrive(flame) I think one thing that would help is to use a quality salt. Plus I have enough coralife shirts in my closet lol (laugh) So, what do you guys use? Also anything to watch out for when changing salts? I still have enough of the old stuff to do a half dozen changes, I was thinking about mixing salts at water changes for a while to ease the conversion. Thanks, Gabe
  7. Looks like it was a lot of fun! Wish I could have made it... Kudos to Douglas and everyone who made it happen. (clap) LOL I am having fun just trying to put screen names to some of the faces(scratch) Maybe next time. Gabe
  8. Thats too bad(sad), but like jgf86123 said that would make one cool shallow tank. Cut the one good side, and the ends in half and now you have a 70 gal shallow frag tank!!!
  9. Thanks, I will be eagerly waiting for some updates(clap) Thanks again, Gabe
  10. I just saw this the other day, sale-zhtvt-1735193999@craigslist.org Hope this will help your friend! Gabe
  11. Miles, I would love to get a purple one if you still have one left. I have never seen those down here.(drooler) My biggest problem would be getting up there to pick it up(sad). Let me know if shipping, or holding for a little while would be an option? (maybe even next time you frag) Thanks again, oh yeah, those things ROCK!!! Gabe
  12. There was a movie?!? lol I loved these cards, but had to hide them from my parents(whistle)

    New BABY

    Congrats on the new baby!!
  14. Clay, that would be cool to meet, but I will be out of town the 19th thru the 24th. I will be in town the 25th, maybe I could meet you at Reef Tech, or you could come by and see the tank. Who knows, I might have a frag you like! Not sure if I will have internet after tomorrow, so I will pm you my #. Give me a call this week. If you have time, you should stop by the Frog Prince in Grants Pass. Miguell always has cool stuff, and is fun to deal with. (He is on the google map here on the site)(Closed on Sunday) Gabe
  15. I got some large pieces of rock from a friends sump a while back that was full of apt., but also was completely encrusted with coraline. (very nice rocks) I soaked them in fresh ro/di for a couple hours. That killed all but the biggest apt.. The coraline turned white, but started to regain color within a couple weeks of being back in the tank. Gabe
  16. Congrats man!! You seem to be an inspiration to so many, always have a great attitude. The little decisions we make day to day have a profound affect on our lives. Keep up the good work. I look forward to meeting you some day! Gabe
  17. That sounds like a great idea!! Furniture and resivoir in one!

    REASSEMBLE!!!

Thanks impur, I like the idea of being able to remove the false back. Filled it with water on Monday, no leaks yet. I have to work out of town for 3 weeks, so might just leave the water in there for a long term test. Gonna be itchin to finnish it when I get back... Thanks again guys. Gabe

    Simple ATO

Like Emerald525 said, the idea is worth a frag lol(whistle) Go ahead, you could use different sizes of pipe to fit your needs. The best part is the parts are cheap, and easy to get. I think I spent no more than $20 Gabe

    Thanks guys!
  21. jackaninny, newfisher, I just posted a DIY on my ato with some pics. I hope it gives some ideas. Thanks Gabe

    Simple ATO

After reading newfisher's recent thread I decided to do this ATO thread. When I started my 55 build I knew I didn't want to have to keep up with evap. with a cup like I did with my 29. We are currently renting, and didn't want to drill any holes to plumb in a line to my RO/DI. I used sched 20 (thinner wall for more water volume). I used abs in a couple places simply because it is black. Material list; 10'-4" sched 20 pvc, 1-4" cap, 2-4" 90, 1-4" to 2" abs reducer, 1-2" abs 90, 1-2" abs cap, short pc. 2" pvc, 4-4" two hole pipe straps, 1/4"? poly tubing, 1-str con for tubing, 1-float valve (I found the swamp cooler variety to be the cheapest, $3, and haven't had it fail yet) So I made a big u with the pipe and the 90's. When I glued the 90's together I made sure to clock them (only about an inch from the fill end around the corner to the capped end) a little so the water will flow down, not just sit in the middle somewhere. Capped one opening, and put the reducer on the other. I used 2" to go through the wall of the stand and into the abs 90 for my fill port. At the bottom of the capped 4" I drilled and tapped 1/4 npt threads for the fitting. I used the pipe straps to hang the resivoir in the top of the stand above the sump. The float valve attaches to your sump. I made a bracket out of aluminum and siliconed it to the back of my sump instead of drilling the glass. The only thing I have had to change is the float rod was galv. steel, and started showing signs of corrosion after about a month. I have some scraps of polycarbonate in the garage, so I made a new float support, and pin. I use a 5gal water bottle to fill the res. and it is a good fit in that 2" 90. The resivoir holds about 5 gal. Since I loose just less than a gal a day, I can be gone for a week before I have any issues. This could be modified for different stand configurations I'm sure. Here are some formulas to determine your possible res. volume. *radius X radius X 3.1416 = area of circle*, *area X length = volume* There are 231 cubic inches in a galllon. Example 4" pipe 96" total length: 2x2x3.1416=12.5664, 12.5664x96=1206.3744, 1206.3744/231=5.2224gal I hope this is usefull to someone:D Thanks for looking Gabe
  23. How much room do you have in your stands? I used some 4" schedule 20 pvc to build a resivoir that hangs above my sump. 4'x2=about 5 gal. A simple mech. float valve for a swamp cooler ($3). I used a 2" black abs 90 to come out of the stand for filling. If you would like, I could snap some pics tomorrow.
