  3. Other option is to cook it. No! I don't mean really cook it but it's a process in which you place the rock in saltwater with a powerhead and cover it completely. It container should be completely dark! Change water every two to three days and In two to three weeks you will have live rock rich in bacteria but everything else will be dead. I have done it in past with a lot of success. Here is the link for a RC thread. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=437342 Look it up on google and you will find several links describing this process of regenerating your old rock.
  4. What data logging software/ controller are you using to log this ph? Thanks.
  5. It is now working perfectly! fast loading and quick refreshing of the page. Whoever did whatever to address this problem, thank you very much!!! (clap)(clap)(clap)
  6. Still working out the kinks in this new modification here! there was some high pressure problem in an overnight run :(
  7. Ok guys. Si I tried to save the water by recycling it back through the RO membrane. At it seems like it works pretty well. The water pressure is holding and so is tds at 0. After making about 25 g of water each time, I flush the system for ~10 min to make sure the all membrane impermeant impurities are out of the system! And start it back again. Here are some of the picks.
  8. 3 blue plus and 3 blue special here. All lamps overdriven with 3 workhorse 5 ballasts.
  9. I use three Blue Plus and Three Blue special t5HO bulbs. These are overdriven though! I generally had very good luck with this set of bulbs. Good growth and colors! here is what is looked before (and I want to get back to this stage in 9 to 12 months again ) its good to have a goal and work towards it
  10. For $10.00, count me in for a frag too You location please?
  11. I knew if I keep reading this fourm long enough, it will lead to setting up a reef tank again and it happened ! While the water is being made for this tank, I figured let me share some pic with the community here (now that Jon taught me how to post pics here ) This is a complete picture of the setup [/img] basically what was in 10ftX10ft room back in Madison, is now under the tank! [/img] the return plumbing has a quickconnect for removing and addind water to the system. [/img] and my DIY t5 HO light fixture. I overdrive each of these with workhorse 5 ballast (2 per ballast) and the second picture shows wiring! THe return from tank goes into this section with rubble rock which will be converted to refugium (but no sand bed though :( ) And finally the lights are UP yeh!!! Starting to look like a tank now
  12. Thanks for the tip Jon! So I started an account and now here goes the pics of my water prep station: The top container is for DI-RO water and lower container is where I prepare saltwater. The pum is used for mixing and then the same pump moves the water to my tank! First pic is of the whole setup and the second one showes plumbing details. The photo in previous post is the quick connect I have installed that is easy to handle. besides this quick connect also has autolock, so it prevents the drip of the salt water on carpet and floor while moving the hose in and out of the home! [/img] [/img]
  13. gave up! too much trouble to add pictures here (scratch)
  14. Thanks for the input from all of you!! I was inspired and finally put together my water prep station last night. Is filling up with RO water right now. Takes a long time to fill a 30 g container! (whistle) here are some pictures: Hmmm.. cannot load pics from this computer! is somebody else has this problem where the manage attachment page is half displayed. I'll try other computer.. the pic here shows the quick disconnect installed at both ends on the transfer hose.
  15. Yeh! I feel Jealous when I read about all the nice stuff and lfs you have up north! we have to drive 2 hr to get there :(
  16. I am for BRS. I recently bought 110lb of dry rock from BRS. 50 lbs base and 50 lbs pukani. I also got some rubble rock (10 lbs). Pukani was soooo good that All the pukani went into the tank as aquascape ( the tank is yet to see the water though! ) and base rock is still sitting outside.
  17. perfect! Thanks for posting. That's what I am looking for. Where did you buy this and what is the make? thanks
  18. I think the problem with mine was that it stayed outside on the patio (but out of sun). It still had water left over from previous water changes. As Dumb A** I was, I never flushed the old water out and went directly to adding water to my tank. The poor things in the tank would suffer for a few days and then I would find then floating on the top :( (This was in the beginning). I then went to plastic hose, read up and had planted tank for next 6 years and never lost a fish! That said, plasticizers in a common garden hose can be pretty toxic! I think if the hose was flushed properly, this might not be a problem. But with my past experience and guilt of putting fish to sleep does not allow me to even touch garden hose :( for adding water to my tank!)
  19. I am looking for hose to do water changes and was wondering if folks here could share their experience with me. Years ago, I used garden hose for water changes in my fresh water tank. DOH! And killed fishes after every water change DOH! Could not figure it out until I changed it to clear plastic pipe. Now need at least 60' of hose (too lazy to lug buckets ) Thanks for your input!
