  1. I picked up a yellow tang yesterday. It started going to town on the hair algae within a minute of adding him to my tank. Looks like he's going to serve a good purpose and he looks good in my tank! There is a little sparring going on between him and my kole, but nothing serious. Maybe the yellow tang will keep the kole occupied so the kole will quit instigating fights with my eel. The kole has some nice bite marks on his tail and dorsal fins that have the exact shape of my banana moray's mouth. He just doesn't learn. (laugh) Thanks for the help guys!
  2. I had both in my 75g for awhile. I added the coral banded after the cleaner, so it would be the reverse order as you. The coral banded shrimp showed no interest in the cleaner shrimp. He was more interested in hunting small fish and hermits. I think the outcome would depend on how much space they had.
  3. I have an octopus bh-100f on my 29g. I'm happy with it. Very little microbubbles after break-in, fairly quiet, and skims well. The pump is internal and it has an extra chamber that has enough room to keep the heater in. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another one. Although I don't have any first-hand experience with them, I hear the deltec are 2nd to none for hob, but they cost alot more than others.
  4. I got mine from Patrick at Saltwater Fantaseas. I just checked Patrick's Email he sent out this morning, he has them in stock.
  5. That would suck!! I love that eel! I went broke buying him. (laugh)
  6. Linux has come a long way. Give it a shot. As far as add-ins, I'd recommend noscript (as Andy suggested) and adblock plus.
  7. Thanks! I thought about it, but didn't think two maroons would do very well in a 75g. I heard they get pretty mean when they get big.
  8. He's actually darker pink than the pic looks. Crappy camera (laugh) The tips are deep pink and tentacles slowly fade as it gets closer to the base of him. If he is bleached, I hope he will be ok. He's eaten two chunks of squid three days ago. Last night I fed frozen plankton and the clown was feeding it. I tried to feed it a chunk of shrimp last night, but every time it got the shrimp close to its mouth, the clown would knock it out.
  9. Thanks for all the help guys. And thanks Chewie for the support after buying it. After some persuasion from various powerheads and rock rearrangement, I think it's in a spot we (me and rbta) are both happy with.
  10. I guess what I meant was I don't like being forced to use an application to add/remove songs. I prefer dragging and dropping within Windows Explorer. I find it quicker and simpler. I can also go to any of my computers and put music on an mp3 player. This can't be done with an ipod. You are locked to one computer (at least this is my experience). But everyone's needs and abilities on a computer are different. The ipod software (or equivalent) does make it easy for a computer novice. Personally, I don't care for the ipod's UI. I am a SanDisk fan. My advice would be to go to a store and try them both out. Find which UI you are more comfortable with. Some people love ipods, some don't.
  11. That and regular mp3 players are about half the cost of ipods.
  12. I prefer regular mp3 players. Ipods force you to use ITunes software to add/remove music.
  13. You bet! Best part is you know how to reload Windows the next time it gets bad. I'd suggest running some of the free spyware scanners once or twice a month as a preventative measure though. Also make sure you have a virus scanner installed and do weekly scans with it. The reason I asked you what you use it for is there are alternatives to Windows. If you just use it as an Internet browsing computer, you might consider some flavor of Linux. That's what I run on my laptop. No more spyware.
  14. That zip file just contains the necessary drivers. It's not an installer. Try this: Extract the files to a location on your hard drive Control panel, system, device manager and find the wireless adapter, right-click and select the properties Go to the driver tab, and click the update driver button Browse to the files you extracted and it should load them
  15. Let's take a step back. What do you use the laptop for?
  16. Thanks for the detailed tang info! Actually, I'm open for all types of fish suggestions. I've been through 2 sailfin tangs so far. One died about a week after I bought it. The next one I decided to put in a QT and it died two weeks later in there. Not sure I want to try a third. The yellow tang looks like a good option if I get another tang. Do you have any experience with the one spot foxface?
  17. A yellow tang is an option if I can't find another fish. Are there any other fish compatible with my 75g and my occupants that I could add? I've been wanting to add another fish anyway. Current occupants: 4" kole tang 15" banana moray eel 2" maroon clown 4" yellow wrasse (2) 1.5" blue sapphire damsels (had 3 of them on Saturday) (scratch) 6" RBTA Frogspawn, encrusting green gorgonian, xenia, green flower pot, and hammer coral Maybe a one spot foxface? Always liked the looks of them but question their compatibility with LPS or my tang. My kole tang is alpha of the tank. He even goes up to my eel and does the sideways dance in front of his face. One of these days that eel is gonna..... (laugh)
  18. I'd be willing to add a yellow tang, but since I have a kole tang I don't think that would work out. My emerald crab in my 29g does a great job with hair/bubble algae. Wish I could add one to this tank, but I'm sure it would just be dinner for my eel.
  19. 96w of T5 HO won't quite be enough for a BTA? Are there different lighting requirements for a green BTA and RBTA? How big is your tank? How many watts? Wow. I just realized every sentence I just typed are questions. Sorry about that. (laugh)
  20. I found all the info I needed to build my sump here: http://www.melevsreef.com/allmysumps.html (Not sure if you've already checked Melev's site or not) HTH
  21. After doing alot of reading over at RC on that light, I decided not to order it. Looks like the ballasts and bulbs suck. Some Chinese no-name knock-offs. I'd basically have to buy all new internals which would double that price easy. I ended up ordering the 30" version of this: http://www.current-usa.com/sundial_t5ho Hopefully that'll work out for some LPS and a BTA.
  22. They only get 3", but I don't know if it would get along with your other occupants. Even though I have a 75g, I have a banana moray eel, so that limits what fish I can have as well. I did just realize the only place that this stuff is growing is where sunlight hits the tank. Hmmmm. (scratch)
  23. Thanks. I'll check out that thread. I did find something that would eat it though......a Hawaiian Whitespotted Toby. I got one of them last weekend and it started eating it like crazy! Unfortunately, 5 minutes later it thought my maroon clown's tail was desert. (cussing) He spent the night in the fuge and went back to the store the next day. Kinda sucked, I really like him. So, if you can put one of them in your tank, I'm sure he'll eat it.
  24. I think it was pretty soft to the touch, but don't remember exactly what the texture was like. I'll check tonight. My kole tang doesn't touch it. I hope it starts going away 'cause it's ugly. It started showing up a couple weeks ago. I have another patch on top of the rock next to it. The weird part is that patch is directly in front of the powerhead. Lots of flow and it still grows. I thought hair algae grew in low flow areas. (scratch) That's what made me thing it may not actually be hair algae. More info on tank: 75g set up for 2 years 20g sump/fuge w/octopus nw-150 skimmer 54wx4 T5 HO w/icecap reflectors 20% biweekly water changes Recent changes: Added kole tang and banana moray eel two months ago Added 50 lbs of fiji base rock (from marcorocks.com about a month ago) I cured the fiji base rock in a rubbermaid tub until ammonia/nitrites were 0 and nitrates were 20. That took about 3 weeks. I then added the rock to the display. Tested water last night: Salinity 1.026 Ammonia 0 (API) Nitrites 0 (API) Nitrates 0 (API) Phosphates ~0 (API, so hard to read that color chart with 100% accuracy)
