  1. In my short experience I have noticed either my tank is looking really really good & on it's way to success, or starting to look bad & on it's way to failure. It's a roller coaster that keeps me wondering when the next turn, up hill climb or drastic fall will accure. To be honest this is what keeps me involved. If I knew what to expect I wouldn't be so interested. Who here peeps into their tank in the middle of the night with a flash light? What are you looking for? something new, something different from before? You are trying to find the unexpected & at times we do. So to me keeping a reef in the house is way out of the ordinary, & I would be let down by simple ordinary results. So with all that being said have I ever been completely frustrated? You bet! Have I ever sat in complete aw? Of course. I have no clue how I will feel about it tomorrow..........

  2. The Radium 250W IS a HQI bulb. It is designed to be driven by a HQI ballast. Just connect a mogul socket to the ballast and off you go.

The 400W Radium is designed to be driven at 360W and is therefore NOT a HQI bulb. Some do overdrive it with a HQI ballast because they like the look. If you do this you will shorten the life to around 6mo instead of the usual 12 mo.

I am using one of those current outer orbit fixtures & dont see a possible retrofit, but thanks for the info on the radiums being a HQI bulb. I wonder why they dont make them in the double ended bulb?

  3. I am no expert here but I think I heard you say the coral is new to the tank, maybe your lighting is to intense for the coral. In my experience if I start corals lower in the tank & get them use to a more intense light they are less likely to bleach. Other than that it looks good to me.
