  1. Thanks Roy I love the Fungia. It opened right up when I put it in the tank, and if you read the Arrggghhh! Stupid Hermit crabs, I guess you figured out it was your Clove Polyps it ate. I am still so (censored) over that. Matt The elegance is one of my favorites. That's why I was so worried when it started "expelling waste"!(laugh) Thanks guys, but compared to your two tanks I have a long way to go. Roy's tanks are amazing. I can't wait to see his 120 up and running. Shane
  2. Scott I'm looking to connect two 10 gals in tandem to act as a sump and fuge. So I'm thinking 1 or 1 1/2in bulkheads which I think requires a 1 3/4" or 2 3/8" Hole. Andy I'll bring beer too. Shane
  3. Andy, Do you have the ridiculously expensive hole saw required to do this. If so I'll swing by for a drillathon, and I'll bring the beverages. Shane
  4. Does anyone out there have the ability to drill a glass aquarium? I'll treat to the beverage of your choice. Shane
  5. Man what is with these hermits. I would be afraid to walk down the streets of my aquarium after dark. Talk about murder central. I try to get little ones when I buy them as they seem to be a little less pugnaciuos (sp). The big ones are just down right onery. Shane
  6. Sorry, here's pics of the coral. Next time I feed I'll get pics of my cleaner stealing the food. Shane
  7. That's the thing I am fighting a slight hair algae issue right now. I have algae and not really a big CUC. I wonder if I should add an algea sheet at night? Shane
  8. Cool thanks guys. (yahoo) I was sure it was something like that I just wanted to be sure. I feed it twice a week by hand. I have to stand guard over it as my cleaner shrimp and emerald crab love to still the food right out of its mouth. Thanks Matt it is a very nice coral and I would have hated it if I had done something wrong. Shane
  9. This is such a noobie question, but how do LPS expel thier waste? For the last two days my elegance coral has been expelling this brown stringy stuff from each mouth. Is it (sigh) pooping, or is it by chance getting rid of it's Zooxanthellae due to sickness or some such other? Maybe splitting and/or growing another polyp. My water params are in check and it is opening up fully and it is eating so.......I am kind of at a loss.(scratch)(scratch) Shane
  10. Saturday my daughter just to had to have one of these "Haloween" hermit crabs. DOH! This dude is seriously huge. Probably about the size of quarter. I look over this morning and he is laying on his shell with a frag in his claws sucking down my clove polyps. (flame)(flame)(flame)(cussing)(cussing)(cussing) By the time I catch him and banish him to the fuge, my cloves are down to the nubs. (sad) I'm pretty sure I know the answer but are they done for, or will they recover? Shane

Saw this guy yesterday run out of the LR and take food from the mouth of my elegance coral. I had to dunk my LR in RO water (which I think killed my rock, along with a few brittle stars/bristle worms) in order to get him to come out. Did I do the right thing? I think it is of the Xanthid species. Shane
  12. Michael, It was a pleasure meeting you, and I mounted the frag just like you suggested, up high. It seems to be doing great. Thanks again. Shane
  13. 1.024 - 1.025 (refractometer) I dropped it from 1.027 after I lost my first fish. I believe I didn't drip acclimate long enough for my salinity being higher than the LFS at 1.023. Shane
  14. Lowman, Thanks for the offer, but my new one has come in. It doesn't work like I thought it would, and now I have to re-think all of my plumbing and my setup. But if at first you don't succeed................Again thinks for the offer. Shane
  15. Thanks Scott SquidHC not to hi-jack your thread but while he was running around today for you Scott swung by Frank's and picked me up some Chaeto to start my refugium. He even handed me a couple of freebies. Scott is one in a millon. Thanks man I really appreaciate it. (highfive) Frank I owe you too. Don't have much in the way of frag's as I am just starting out, but we'll work out something. Shane
  16. To my understanding they are one and the same, and it is how I use it. Shane
  17. Matt, Mix Kalkwasser into the consistency of toothpaste, put it on your (gloved) finger then grind it into the Aptasia and the spot it was anchored to. This has worked for me. Shane
  18. I add 1 tbsp Mrs. Wages with 3 tbsp white distilled vinegar and mix with RO/DI water in a half gal jug and let sit until settled and drip 1 drop about every four seconds from my home made Kalkwasser dispenser. Because I evporate so little I use this as part of my make up water. I make it up every couple of days or so, and my parameters rock steady. Oh and I use Instant Ocean. Shane PS: If you are wondering about the Distilled White Vinegar the link is here: http://www.reefscapes.net/articles/breefcase/kalkwasser.html
  19. Unless they have changed the display set up, from the main entrance go left down main isle, it was the first perpindicular isle before the food section where all the canning stuff was located. I believe bottom shelf next to the canning jars. I haven't been in there since then so I hope it is still there. Tell you what I'll swing by on the way home and let everyone know. Shane
  20. I have a Coralife SS 65. I am really not happy with it. I modded the pump with fishing line but it still only pulls if I skim wet. I was wondering if I could hook the AC 70 I have now and get it to skim better. More than likely I am going to break down and buy a ASM G-1.
  21. The Wal-Mart on 99th between NE 99th and NE 95th in Vancouver has it. I bought two last month from there. Shane
  22. Sorry Andy, I had my daughter typing for me while I was trying to get the piping finished on my tank. She didn't send the PM. I appreaciate the offer though. Shane Oh and I meant to ask you, were you modding a AC 70 powerhead or the AC 70 powerfilter, and how did that work out?
  23. Whew!!! (clap) Thanks everyone. This is a load off my mind. I just really started putting things in the tank and I didn't want to lose anything. To the "TheGooseWhisper" Scooter is my wife's favorite fish. She would beat me repeatedly about my mellon if I let anything happen to him. (wife) I feed the tank live pods, and he takes Cyclopeze so he is a happy fish. He is also the main reason for trying to get my refugium up and running. I hopefully won't have to keep buying live. I can grow my own! (rock2) Shane
  24. Okay the first thing you learn when starting this hobby is (everybody now) PATIENCE! Unfortunately I don't have any. (nono) So all the stuff I order to build my refugium came in today so the first thing I do is open the box and sure as heck my new 800 gph overflow is broken. (flame) So I figure I can plumb everything with the new pumps and piping and just cut back on the return pumps using in-line ball valves and I should be fine. Well famous last words. DOH! My current 300 gph is just not enough to supply two return pumps even with barely any return flow. I just can't balance the flows and I am going to overflow either the display, sump or refugium. So my question is, can my 55 gal tank make it a week with just my Korilia 1 and 4 powerheads running during the work day and at night while I am sleeping? I don't have a huge bio load. I have six small frags, two small percs, scooter blenny, and small CUC. I will run the skimmer and returns after work until I go to sleep. They should ship out my new overflow tommorow and I hopefully will have it Friday or Saturday. I've plumbed everything so it should just be plug and play when it arrives. Will I be okay, or do I need to tear it all back down and re-plumb everything back to a single return? What a PITA!!!!!! Thanks Shane
