  1. Can these pumps be used with the G1 Skimmer?
  2. Ok all here goes. Sorry if this topic has already been discussed in full detail. I am looking to setup another tank and had the following questions about MH lighting. 1. What is better DE or Mogul? 2. In a retrofit situation should the reflectors be mounted horizontal or vertical to the tank? 3. What light spectrum is best for growth? (Primarily softies but some stones as well) 4. What types of reflectors would you all suggest as being quality reflectors? 5. Would you suggest buying new or is used worth it? If used is acceptable what things are good questions to ask and what should I be looking for in terms of a quality product. Also what would be a good price range for a duel 400 watt unit (complete)? 6. Do you all find that it is critical to have a chiller with running a duel 400 watt MH? (Just wondering if I can get away with not having one. I have central air and my house stays at a constant 70 degrees year round.) Thanks in advance for your input. Mike
  3. Reef, Thanks for the easy transaction. Mike
  4. (icon) Good looking tank Shannon, Showed my wife (wife) your tank last night and she was envois however she did tell me to keep dreaming, and so my dream continues. (drinking)
  5. Welcome Welcome, You are correct; there is a wealth of knowledge to be had here. There are so many people that amaze me with what they know and better yet the pride and ingenuity of their tanks. I wish you the best on your new adventure and look forward to seeing some pics. Welcome to your new home. Mike
  6. HV30 HD Camcorder The HV30 is a 3.1 Mega pixel camcorder. It is also packed with tons of features. I picked mine up for $800 at circuit city and if it ever dies I will get another. I have been quit pleased. Also i am using Imovie and IDVD on a apple to edit (low end on the editing tools for apple) and all my friends and family are very impressed with the quality in fact I have a friend that stopped by 2 days ago and last night I got a email that he had to go pick one up as well. He also felt that he could not get one due to price until i told him about the prosumer models and what I paid for mine. .
  7. drool and HD Camcorders Someone please grab me some towels. My wife is going to kill me if she sees all this drool. On another note I have a HV30 by Canon and its HD. It is under 1k and takes outstanding footage andy. Just thought I would give my 2 cents and wanted to let you know HD camcorders can be affordable in the prosumer market.
  8. In Hawaii but still within contact range Reefhut, Sent you a PM still interested and contactable. There is a 3 hour time difference but I will checking the boards in the morning and in the evening. PS the weather in Hawaii is wonderful and the diving and aquatic life is outstanding. Vis at 120 feet underwater is about 75 feet. And I wish I could take the whole ocean home with me. Hope to talk to you soon. Mike
  9. Doh Darn just bought one of these a few months back. Anyhow i know I still need more light (drooler)(drooler) Sent a PM. Mike
  10. Double NOOB (Tank and New Underwater Camera) Ok here goes... Sorry if they are not clear. The pictures where taken with an underwater camera and at an angle where I could not see the viewfinder.
  11. Drilling I will not be at the meeting. I will be out of town. when i get back i will PM and we can work something out. Thanks for everyones responses. Mike
  12. I wanted to get a feeler to see if there is anyone around the Aloha / Hillsboro area that has tools / knowledge to drill through a glass tank. I am looking to put a few holes that will fit ¾” and 1’ bulkheads. If not does anyone know of a good place I can take a tank to have the drilling performed?
  13. Ocean Motion Thanks for your feedback. I will need to make a trip out to Waves and talk to them about this product.
  14. Getting ready for Hawaii I will be leaving for Hawaii Thursday morning. I can’t wait to finally dive in warm water. I am new to diving as well as I only have about 20 dives under my belt with 2 of them being night dives. I did however buy an underwater housing for my digital camera so I am hoping I can capture some wonderful fish and coral. I will post some pictures upon my return if people are interested. Mike
  15. Any users of this product? Is it safe to assume that since no one is posting any response that no one has been using this product. If not can anyone provide the name of the products you are using to generate more of a natural wave motion in their tanks? Thanks in advance Mike
  16. Question Sorry i don't mean to take over your thread however i did have a question. I had one of these split and now they are both about 8" in diam. and I'm getting worried they are going to split again and i don't have room in my tank for 4 of these. How do you take them off the rocks without harming them? thanks for any info you can provide and sorry again
  17. Happy Fathers Day Thanks, and happy fathers day for all you lucky dads.
  18. Anemone lighting Well I hope so. This was one of the first things I put in the tank It since has split and now i have two. The are both about 8" in diam. when fully open. This one just moved recently to this spot however during the day it will fill the whole cave and the rim of the anemone will be attached to the outside. It seems to being doing good and i have been feeding it a silver side about ever 2 to 3 days. Not sure if I'm over feeding however they both eat very will. As for the lighting I have a coral life that has moon lights and a 10k and an actinic however it does not fit in my hood. we bought this light when we first started from a lfs however after a couple of months she wanted to put the hood on and I upgraded the lights yet again. I would also like to mention I made a mistake on my lighting list above. I currently have a 10k and an actinic in the hood both T5. I know I should have more lighting however this is my wife's tank and she likes the color of the light and does not want to spend anymore money on lighting as we are already in it over 500 with both lighting configurations we have. This is just another reason I am working on her to create my own tank. My dreams (and right not due to money only dreams) 90 to 155 Gal Tank (Acrylic or Starfire (front) but at this point a good old glass will work as well.) MH (not sure wattage as it will be based on the size of tank) with T5 Actinic highlights Refug Closed loop (looking at Ocean Motions SS Squirt. But due to budget i might run a couple of SCWDs) All pumps external and of course a chiller due to the MHs at this point just a dream but i am going to work on getting one thing at a time and I figure i can accomplish this goals in about 2 to 3 years. DOH!DOH!
  19. Tank Pic's Per some requests I am posting some pictures of my current tank. Some details: The Tank is a acrylic 65 Gallon I am running 2 T5s 1-6500K and 1-10k Built in overflow 18G Wet/Dry Sump (next tank will have a refug) ASM G1 Skimmer (not convinced that this is a quality skimmer) Rio 2500 return pump 1- Koralia 4 and 1 Koralia 3 power head If you have any questions please let me know and I will do my best to answer them.
  20. Thanks for the Welcome Unfortunately I will not be able to attend, as I will be in Hawaii diving. I will however be making it a priority to start attending these functions. They sound most interesting and any information is good information. Thanks again, Mike
  21. I am getting new ideas for my next tank based on what I like and dislike about my first setup. One of my complaints is the fluent motions that power heads provide and the eye sore they create. I have been looking at devices that will give more of a natural wave motion. Please note that I am trying to reach my goals on a very very limited budget so fancy pricy gizmos are out of the picture at this point. Anyhow my question is has anyone used the SS Squirt by Ocean Motion and if so what are your thoughts of the product? Or better yet what are you all doing to create more of a natural motion without the eye sores of the power heads? Thanks in advance for any advice / feedback and or knowledge you might be able to provide.
  22. Good day all, My name is Mike and I live in Hillsboro Oregon. I am fairly new to this hobby as my first tank went up in Oct. of 07. The tank was meant for my wife however the extent of her involvement has been.... Move that there I want this and I want that and the tank needs to be cleaned and so on. Since then we have both become certified deep water divers as the love of the ocean has gotten stronger since the setup of our tank. I also wanted to say thanks to all the members of PNWMAS. I have learned a great deal about this hobby and I’m sure I will just continue to learn as the years go on. Thanks again and I look forward to picking your brains and hopefully meeting some of you in the near future. Mike
