  1. Oh I agree, I love looking for new things that seem to emerge from nowhere. I have to say though that my rock is constantly shedding detritus and I wonder where it keeps coming from, how on earth can rocks POOP !!!!!. It's okay at the moment as everything I have are dirty water lovers but I sure get big bug eyes looking at some of the SPS people show off around here (drooler)(drooler)
  2. Thanks Nyles, you really explained that in a way I can understand.
  3. Well I'm not sure either (relative newb here) which is why I was asking about BR. TRT has a BB forum and it seems to "correct" way to go is to cook the rocks first (not literally cook )
  4. I have a question about going BB. If you need to cook your rocks and want to strip them of as much unwanted stuff as possible then why use live rocks at all? Wouldn't clean base rocks serve the same purpose? Just wondering what would be left on the LR that would justify the extra cost over BR. Thanks for any input.
  5. Lucky someone ... obviously not me as I have no PM (sad)(sad) Seriously, your tank is awesome. Oh and congrats for being in Vet school
  6. I think it's the same 'Flyguy" ( he lives here in Central Oregon ) I LOVE your pipe idea...incredible. In fact I'm so inspired by your entire tank it's "bye-bye 29, hello 40" time around here. Thanks for sharing such a great idea and tank. I have to re read to see what substrate you are using (well not using lol) Is it starboard it looks white?
  7. okay, I'm a newbe too (relatively) and I know people will laugh at what I'm about to tell you but I'm telling you anyhow... It's the Nassarius snails. I had the exact same problem a year ago. Lost three healthy happy clowns within 24 hours of putting them in the tank. This tank was on a counter and there was no where for a jumping clown to end up where I couldn't see them. Put the clowns in and had no trace of them the next day, bought another, lost another...day after day after day (3 clowns) They were small clowns and I had two large Nass snails in the tank. We theorised that when the fish were sleeping the nasses got 'em. Sounds crazy right...'til we found a Nass dining on the last few remnants of a (healthy when we went to bed) Bangaii Cardinal. Now I make sure I buy Nasses way smaller than my fish and place my clowns host high in the tank. So far, so good
  8. That last shot showing both tanks is great. Great looking tanks. I'm inspired.
  9. Awesome !!! Your tank is great. Can't wait to see it as it grows.
  10. I guess this is going to become my build thread (as my tank is only 2 months old) so here's the latest additions First, I didn't like my aquascaping. I did it in a hurry after I cracked my 20 galllon (had everything in a 20 to start with) and had to move everything in a hurry. So last weekend I took everything out put things in a 10 and slowly put things back where I wanted them. I didn't have enough black sand or white sand to fill the tank...so I mixed them together and now have spotted sand lol which actually looks really nice. Here's a few additions after a trip to Portland. Thanks for letting me share. I'm in the market for a nice green frogspawn next, I just want a small one so that will be my next "quest" (whistle)
  11. Nice tank. I like your new aquascaping a lot. Everything looks very healthy too, good job. Oh, and love your pictures!
  12. WOW, you have inspired me...wonder if hubby would notice if I cut holes in the living room wall (whistle) Seriously..that's an awesome set up. I really like your 'scaping.
  13. Oh yeah...seahorse pics please.
  14. Gosh, awesome livestock and fantastic photography. Thanks for sharing.
  15. WOW, you really are addicted lol. Awesome looking tanks!!!!
  16. Oh I like it !!! Makes me want a cube (whistle)!
  17. Looking awesome! I love your rockwork. It's going to look great when everything starts to fill out, good job.

Bubba a Yellow Cheek amazon Pepper a Timneh African Gray Maggie and Bog, two working Australian Cattle Dogs 6 month olf miniature Donkey jennet 2E 30 inch high Miniature Horse mare and my equine soul mate my 29 inch high miniature horse stallion Ozymandias
  19. They are Discosoma Sanctithome (hope I'm spelling that correctly) They are very hardy (very). I read that they don't like a lot of water flow but mine are in heavy flow and seem more than happy...and the clowns love them. Thank you everyone for such a warm welcome. I've meant to find you for so long and am so glad I finally have. Oups..edited to say...sorry...replied to page one before seeing chewie had replied.
  20. It is a mushroom. It does look like an RBT nem and it's got the Maroons fooled. I have three so far a red, pink and blue. They never leave them and sleep in them at night. Here's a couple more pics but please excuse the size I'm out of town and can't resize them. I'm really loving this tank. It's taken a lot mentally to get going again after the burglery but this tank sure is helping
  21. Wish I'd have known you guys needed Rod's food. I'm heading to PDX in about an hour to visit my mom (girls weekend out lol) I could have brought some with me - my LFS in Redmond sells it.
  22. I'm feeding Rod's and everything in my tank just loves it. It feeds everything all at once. Good stuff. Wish I'd have known about this site earlier. My LFS here in Redmond sells it and I'm heading to PDX in about an hour...could have brought some with me.
  23. Thanks guys, FTS I refuse to share HAHAHA...well as long as the two base rocks that I used as looking so white !!! Oh, okay, what the heck...here's one (whistle) Sorry about the white rocks and the diatom bloom as I'm having a small cycle from adding the two clowns. Wow dsoz you have an awesome memory. Yup, I'm the same person who had a 20L and 29 destroyed during a home invasion/party/burglery last summer (17 kids broke in while we were on vacation) FYI, we had the last trial just a couple of weeks ago. Every single one has been charged and found guilty in this case. The two who stole the most have been found guilty of felony burglery and criminal mishchief. One of the two 18 year olds has been found guilty of felony burglery and the only one not yet caught and charged (on the run) has warrents out for breaking into the car, house, theft, kidnapping in this case and in two other counties for things related to this case. YAHOOOOOOOOO...the good guys actually won this time. (rock2)
  24. Hi guys, I'm new here so I hope I'm introducing myself and my tank in the right place. I started an AGA 29 nano the first week of January this year. I'm running a 150w 14,000k HQI Sunpod (seriously thinking of upping to a 250w) I converted an Aquaclear 110 into a fuge with LRR and chaeto. I have an AquaC Remora skimmer and surface skimmer attachment and an AC 50 ph for extra flow. Approx 25lbs of LR and base rock. Oh and I'm running it BB. The whole thing is home to my two baby (7 months) ORA bred GSM's and a small 1/2 inch long green barred goby. I feed Rod's which I get from my LFS "Oasis" in Redmond. Just wanted to share a few photos before I get back to reading as many past posts on this site as I can Of course I don't have much yet as the tanks only 2 months old...but it's a start. Thanks for letting me share. Green Ricordia Baby GSM's Pink Zoas Yellow Polyps GSM in her favorite mushroom Zoas Ricordias Palys
