  1. Awe - I didn't even get to check it out! Rip off. I will assume that it was ugly and brown.
  2. Hmmmm... sounds interesting. I don't think I've seen one in person. I'll be at Garrett's tonight, so I guess I'll get to check it out and see what all the fuss is about.
  3. I'd love to be able to help out. Sorry, I didn't catch that the tank was coming from Corvallis or I'd have told you sooner to give you more time to coordinate.
  4. Kim, PM'ing my phone number. I'm in Corvallis until tomorrow afternoon and will be in Portland Thursday night. And I drive a Jeep, which should be able to fit said tank/stand. If you can coordinate with the person you're getting the tank from, I'd be happy to bring it up to you.
  5. Wow - nice photography! Oh, and the shrimp is pretty cool, too.

    Acro crab

Very cool! I think acro crabs are one of my favorite things - hence the avatar.
  7. Title sums it up, anyone have one they want to get rid of? It's for a 29gal tank, so any size would work. Thanks.
  8. Welcome back - but how did this thread not have a poll of some kind? You must have been brain washed!
  9. Wow - very interesting. I'll be curious to tag along. I would be too scared to try. I have no idea how glass tanks are "glued" together, but I would be terrified that 10 years down the road the whole thing would tear apart and spill all that water onto the floor - and of course lose all that coral and have to start over. But I'm a big DIY fan and will enjoy watching.
  10. Pretty sure Garrett is gone for the weekend. I checked in about swinging my later today (~5:30) and he was going to be away, so definitely call.
  11. Interesting choice of freebees - if you hadn't know better and tossed that into your tank... Did she toss in some aipastia or majanoes, too? Maybe a euclid worm?
  12. whoa - 900 watts on a 60 gal tank. I think I'm under-lit!
  13. Wow - you have to have a lost of cash sitting around to drop $1,200 on a coral.
  14. I have to agree with the consensus - they would eventually spread to your display. So, if you plan to keep peppermint to keep them out of your display, great. IMO, it would eventually be a loosing battle and you'd end up cursing the decision.
  15. I did have one in college - back when I knew nothing about saltwater tanks (now I'm up to knowing very little). It was actually very cool. I'm not sure what species. I had to feed it live goldfish, but eventually got it trained to eat raw shrimp. You do have to seal the tank pretty well, but not air tight. A glass lid over as much as possible would be best, but that creates temperature issues. I would think you could get the monofilament mesh (BRS) and double that up. That would probably be sufficient. I do recall that most octopi have a short life spam, but I'm not sure on that. I also tried to get a blue-ring (again, college/stupid age), but it didn't live. I have since learned that they are really bad shippers, and only live for like 6 months in the wild.
  16. That's the same way my wife trained me!
  17. great idea - depending on the piece, I would totally be up for that.
  18. Fast5, Glad to see you stuck around and read replies. This really is a great forum with very supportive people. People really do go out of their way to help other that they barely know. Yeah, there's drama. But such is life. Even after a somewhat negative introduction, look how welcoming people have been.
  19. Agreed - totally. This is a group of friends and loose acquaintances, and familiarity breed contempt. Sometimes people bicker. I've had some serious fights with some great friends in my life. This is a collection of a lot of very different people who, IMO, get along pretty well considering. I know that I would know a heck of a lot less without this forum. I have to question the motivation of someone with nothing invested in this forum, who would take the time to flame the group, rather than simply choose not to be a part of it.
  20. I think Kim makes some very good points. Let's all remember that the Board members have volunteered their time to help manage the forum so that we can continue to use it. They are not an evil cabal of "leadership" that are depriving us other our "rights" to use this board. They were responding to a person who had a concern. I don't know whether the result was right/wrong, but the intent was reasonable. Let's give them time to discuss and try to do what is best for the club. Unless we're willing to step up and fill the positions, let's at least give them the benefit of the doubt. If nothing else, they have proven that they are willing to re-evaluate the initial decision. I know it's not the same thing, but I've done one of the 'share the love's with a fairly expensive coral (red yuma) and would be very irritated if it ended up being sold*. I understand that's different - that was given away, and the restriction of selling was outlined at the beginning. I'm just saying I can see the other side of the argument. (*disclaimer, was fragged and one was given to Mr. S, totally okay with that being sold to benefit the TfT program) I should really just stay our of these discussions, though, I tend to get myself into trouble.

    My first Acan

Yeah no problem. I think I stole it, actually. The prior week I had bid on another frag of the same coral and lost - it went for $87 (it was a two polyp frag). Dropped another bid on this one and grabbed it for $33. I'll try to get a pic when it arrives and see how it compares - though my picture taking is terrible. I lost the bid on another two items, unfortunately - got sniped at the last minute.

    My first Acan

And my first ever ebay coral. Bid on a couple, but first win.
