  1. Thank You I do have a lot of livestock and its been fun. Many of the fish and inverts have great relationships and some fish have paired up, it would be a bummer to lose that, but if it was done once it can be done again. It would definitely be a heavy duty job either way I go. Thats a lot of Rubbermaid Totes! Plus it seems I would need some other people with aquarium knowledge to keep everything alive and as of right now I only have myself (although I do have others to move the tank). I appreciate your expertise and advice, I really do, but I would feel much better about moving a 75 gallon than a 450 gallon, LOL. I was thinking about this, but then I go back to thinking about taking the opportunity to buff the tank of its scratches, resetting the rocks into a new design, getting a new skimmer going, and finally adding a chiller to the system. It seems like a lot of work that probably won't get done over one weekend. In my mind nothing is irreplaceable. I have great relationships with my wholesalers and everything can be replaced, except for my Purple Chromis, which are really rare. But, again things have grown out a little and I would be going back a year in the whole cycle of things. Maybe its not as tough as I think to move the livestock. I don't know. I do have approximately 4 months to move the tank into its new location, so I have time to plan. Keep the advice coming.
  2. I would be very interested in everyones opinion on this I have just purchased a new home (my first, getting out of my apartment finally), my family business is purchasing a new commercial building, and my parents (where the large tank currently resides) have decided to move closer to the new commercial building. We are all currently in Eugene and all of us are moving into Springfield. I am taking the tank to my new home since its much bigger than theirs. I have 2100 square feet of new space to play with. I don't feel its logical to move the tank with all of my inhabitants without losing quite a few during the process and I don't have anyone with a tank that could hold onto them for me. So, I am thinking about selling all of my corals, fish, and invertebrates so the move can be done much easier. How would I go about doing it? I am not sure I want to take the time to list each individual and take pictures, and list prices, and and and etc. I was thinking about having an open house one night so anyone can come see the tank as it currently is and open up everything for sale. I would set a specific time. Or just be available over a weekend and do a first come first serve and offer everything from $10-$30 a pop. Or are there other options? I currently have several of the following (approximately) - Acropora varieties, Pink Birdsnest, Montipora varieties, Horn Coral, Cauliflower Coral, Frogspawn, Pagoda Cup, Mushrooms, Xenia, Zooanthids lots of colors, Green Star Polyps, Yellow Fiji Leather, Toadstool Leather, Branching Birdsnest, etc. Also - Clams, Cleaner Shrimp, Coralbanded Shrimp, Sand Sifting Cucumbers, Tuxedo Urchin, Longspine Urchin, Scarlett Reef Hermits, BlueLegged Hermits, Cerith Snails, Turbo Snails, Nassarius Snails, Red Starfish, Fighting Conchs, Emerald Crabs, Rose Bulb Anenome, Bulb Anenome, etc. Also - Purple Chromis, Green Reef Chromis, Pajama Cardinals, Anthias (male and female), Oscellaris Clownfish, Tomato Clownfish, Sailfin Algae Blennies, Mandarin Goby, Six Line Wrasses, Scotts Fairy Wrasse, Leopard Wrasse, Yellow Tangs, Desjardini Sailfin Tang, Blue Tang, Purple Tang, Yellow Longnose Butterfly, Coral Beauty Angel, Sand Sifting Gobies (diamond watchman), Goby/Shrimp combos, etc. I am not 100% sure yet I will be selling off the livestock, but starting over isn't a horrible thought either. I would rather these animals live with someone else than accidentally die while I move them. I will not be selling any equipment, the tank, sand, or liverock (unless an animal is attached to it). Selling will also give the opportunity to buff the tank of scratches and change out equipment. What are your opinions? Thanks
  3. Spazz is quoting me for a Volcano Skimmer, what does everyone think about Volcano? I think its going to be a Volcano 1850 that he quotes.
  4. PM Sent about 1HP I am seriously thinking about the Orca 250 Pro with Needlewheel and maybe still running my ASM G-6 for extra skimming power. I am thinking about draining the overflows from the tank straight into the skimmers - Is that a good idea?
  5. Not really, but at the same time if I don't have to waste than I don't want to. I have gotten mixed reviews about Becketts. Many people have described them as very difficult to break in and operating at best efficiency. I was forwarded to this beckett http://www.marinetechnical.com/page2.html, but I worry about the air intake and fiddling with it for max efficiency, how do I tell how much air to add or not. My sump is 2' x 6'. I can also build a platform for the skimmer to be above the sump. I have considered an external skimmer and that is not out of the question (even though I worry about overflow). Someone referred me to a ReeFlo Orca 250 Pro (http://www.reefspecialty.com/Protein-Skimmers-Reeflo/c21_45/p253/ReeFlo-Orca-250-Pro-Kit/product_info.html) I like the look of the ReeFlo and really am impressed with Sequence Pumps in general. But I also like the look of the BubbleKings. I actually have up to $1,500 to spend. I also need a good 1HP Chiller. Every time I find a good used one online it sells before I can get my hands on it.
  6. Unfortunately before I could send him the money he sold it to someone else. What is the best Protein Skimmer I could get for around $1,200? My 450 will have a pretty heavy bioload and I will have almost another 450 gallons in support systems (refugium and sump) but with low or no bioload in them. I don't mind running multiple skimmers, but my room is limited and I would prefer not to add much more equipment. Thanks
  7. I have been offered a BubbleKing 300 Internal for $1,200. I currently have an ASM G-6 modded with 3 Sedra 9000's. 1. Is the BubbleKing a better skimmer for my 450 gallon reef? 2. Is that a good price? (its 6 months old) Thanks for everyones help/advice
  8. Urchin has a nice big 180 gallon refugium now, it was fun trying to get him in. Thanks coralreefaquarist
  9. PM me about what times you are available (weeknights, weekends) Thanks and I wish I am just very good at business. And if you do it right and take your time you really don't have to spend that much.
  10. Thanks. PM Sent. Anyone else good at photo taking? I am most likely going to go this route.
  11. I am very interested and have the tank space for them. Email with pricing and if you can bring them to Eugene. Thanks
  12. Sorry I haven't updated in a while, my camera is crappy and I just haven't had the time and/or money to invest in a new camera. Is anyone good with taking tank photos and is willing to come over and take updated pics of my tank? Also, I just removed 3 very large Green Brittle Stars. At least one of them was wrapping around my acros at night and taking out large chunks. If anyone wants to adopt them please let me know (one is missing a couple of legs cause he got himself sucked into a pump in my quarantine tank). Everything is growing great, filling in everywhere and covering over the blue crates. I have been playing around with different types of halides and am probably going to settle on 14k XM 250 watts. I now will have the following above the tank 5 - 250 watt 14k halides 4 - 96 watt 20k Fluorescents 4 - 96 watt Actinic Fluorescents 4 - 75 watt 10k Fluorescents 4 - 75 watt Actinic Fluorescents I am also on the lookout for a new Protein Skimmer and Chiller that can handle my 850 total Gallons and well stocked, if anyone knows of any on sale now or soon or can recommend a brank that would be great. (I am currently talking to someone on here about a Pacific Coast Imports 1HP chiller, is that a good brand?) Hopefully I will have updated pics in the near future.
  13. Been following that tank for a while. It even has several live web-cams you can view the tank with (I think you can even actually operate one). My guess is cost has easily gone over $50,000 (and that includes all the construction they had to do). When its all said and done (with corals and fish) it will come up to $70,000 easily.
  14. Check all connections and make sure you don't have a leak somewhere (pumps connected correctly, seals in place, etc.). Also make sure you have proper flow going through and/or you have adusted your valve for proper outflow. I have found with my skimmer that if too much water is escaping that the bubbles just can't get high enough and they end up just coating the inside of the skimmer instead of going in the cup. My guess is you either have a leak or your flow has changed somehow. I believe every time you clean your skimmer you will see a lot of bubble flow very quickly for a short while then it will calm down and produce better skimmate. Good Luck
  15. I have had a couple of issues with my calcium reactor that I just can't seem to solve, hopefully someone can help. What I have - Geo 624 Calcium Reactor with 10lb CO2 tank, Milwaukee Regulator and Controller. Connected to a home made Calcium Reactor chamber the next size smaller. Flow runs from the Geo through the second chamber and out into the tank. I run the PH of the main chamber at 6.6. Problems 1. My CO2 tank runs out of juice after about 6-8 weeks. 2. No matter how I adjust the main valve and needle valve I can't get the bubble count to stay the same, I will adjust the tank to 8 pounds and come back the next day to find it up at 11 pounds and bubbles shooting at a constant stream, adjust the needle valve slightly and the bubble almost completely stop. It just won't stay constant. 3. I hardly see any calcium desolving at all, I have had the same stuff for about 6 months and its maybe dissolved an inch or two. I have now moved half of it to the new chamber and added smaller calcium bits to the main chamber. 4. My PH in my main tank has been slowly going up over time, it was staying between 8.3 and 8.5 for a long time, but as of this weekend its up to 8.6. 5. I tested my Calcuim levels in my tank at 560ppm. Am I testing wrong? Am I running the reactor incorrectly? Do I have the wrong equipment? I just can't figure it out. Any help would be highly appreciated.
  16. Sorry I missed, busy weekend. Hopefully it was fun.
  17. When the neighbor reports to the city that you are running a tanning booth company in your home.
  18. I have seen them closed in the past also when the sign said they were supposed to be open. I have talked to the owner and he says times are tough because winter is really the only good selling time for fish stores. I talked to him about ways to improve business and sales but he didn't seem to receptive. Ah, well, hopefully he reads this and decides to make a change, I really do like his store. Its hard when you have a passion for something, but you just don't know business well enough.
  19. Nothing against Pet Time either, but they don't have a great track record with the healthiest of fish. But, they do have a pair of younger guys working for them now that do know what they are doing (but is it in the budget for the proper equipment?). Here's hoping, I would like some more variety in Eugene. P.S. I do love that Pet Time has the largest fish available in the area. Good fish to fill my 450 with! LOL
  20. I like this idea. I love to watch pairings and communal relationships. If you don't already have - I definitely recommend a cleaner shrimp. All tangs will require a lot of vegetables, so you have to keep feeding schedule in mind. Yellow Tangs are nice and pretty easy to care for, but can get territorial. Just start slow and everything will work out.
  21. Actually if you read the last few pages his tank crashed a couple of months ago and he lost most of his corals. I do think its inevitable, just depends on how good you are, you can't completely recreate nature, eventually you will make that small mistake that causes a major crash. Sorry to sound like an ***, I surely hope I am wrong (for my tanks sake).
  22. LOL Definitely not this summer, too busy. Maybe winter time. I would definitely have to talk to the organizers first to find out details. I would also be interested in doing it at a time where I could frag some of my corals for trade.
