I have heard that Melafix works for problems like this.
Thanks Bob, I will give it a try.

OK... anyone have suggestions for treatment of skin lesions? One of the new wrasses (Potter's) got scuffed up in transport and isn't healing well - in fact the affected area is getting larger and deeper. I can't see anything else obviously wrong and he swims and breaths OK but still buries himself in sand often (which I'm sure doesn't help). Any suggestions welcome. Thanks in advance!

As for the tangs... your best bet would be those with different body types so that they are less likely to view each other as a threat. I was able to keep a Sohal, Kole, and Scopas all together peacefully but I wouldn't recommend a Sohal and Hippo or Yellow and Scopas for instance. I've seen it but chances are higher that they will fight. Hope that helps.

It does help...However' date=' my tank is a little small for all of those fish, LOL.[/quote']
Ooops... sorry about that Brandon, forgot you've downsized. In that case, I think the Kole (bristletooth) did a great job on the non-filamentous stuff and the rabbit is probably the ticket for the hair forms - not sure if any one would cover both types of algae. I have seen some small specimens of both fish around lately but yeah, that's a lot of fish! Good luck!

Interesting question...
I think it probably depends on what type of algae. I had a Kole and Scopas in my old tank and they did a job on everything but hair algae. When I temporarily added the Sohal and Scribbled rabbit from Bob's tank, everything was stripped clean pretty quickly. I never saw who actually took out the hair algae but I think it was likely the rabbit based on Bob's observations. Regardless, the current combination of Sohal, Scopas and Scribbled rabbit is keeping mine really clean despite heavy feeding and stocking. Hope that helps.

It's alive!

Ok... forgive me for being a little excited but one of my new wrasses just reappeard last night and started snapping up mysis shrimp and spirulina brine along with everyone else in the tank. I hadn't seen him for almost 2 weeks! I finally identified him as an Evans wrasse (Pseudocheilinus evanidus) - AKA secretive, disappearing, chinstrap wrasse - very aptly named I might add!
Here is a pic - it's not actually of mine (see AKA above) but looks exactly like him. Cool fish IMO.

Hey Jon,
Those look nice - I might be interested in one. I have two right now - one is a celedon green with blue polyps and the other is white with blue centers on the polyps. The white one I got from Bob with the tank and hasn't really come around real well but the other is really happy with great extension, color, etc. What have you found to be the critical factors.
Thanks!

Salifert is by far the best IMO' date=' all the reputable stores carry it in Portland, however none down by us siskiou, so I mail order mine usually.[/quote']
Thanks Nyles - strange though, I know I have looked at both SWF and Souta's multiple times and never found it... then again, I often can't find things that are right in front of me!DOH!

What's a good MG test kit brand, and where do you get it locally?
I've been wanting to test my MG (pH is not terribly low, but lower than I'd like).
Funny - I have had the same question here in Portland. I usually try and remember to look whenever I'm in one of the local stores but have yet to see a Mg test kit. Where are you all getting them? So far, Ph and Calcium are holding pretty well but I really would like to be able to keep an eye on this. Thanks!

well looks like i need to make more run's up there lol
Actually, if there were some way to work that out it would be great. I checked out your web site and saw all kinds of great stuff but I'm not inclined to try and order it because I can't gaurantee to be home to accept the delivery during the day.

That is one of my fav tanks of all time. Simply amazing. I could sit in front of that badboy for days.
Yeah, no reason for cable with that in your place! Who knew that having a fireplace store could be so profitable.... does it get that cold in the Netherlands?
-
You got it guys - I'll post here before I do anything with this guy.
I'm making sure there's nori or Sea Veggies in the clip for this guy. Too bad my fuge only has chaeto and one small strand of caldupra (or whatever). Once that grows out more I'll snip it and add to the tank for the Tang.
Cool... thanks Jeff. I tried giving my other tangs and rabbit fish some goodies from the fuge and they just ignored them.... they go crazy over a clip of sea veggies though! They all have also adapted to frozen, including SWF gumbo, emerald cuisine, spirulina brine, mysis, and, of course, anything and everything green that has the gumption to try and grow in the main tank.

Yeah - he's look good now. I don't plan on upgrading just yet - it's a new tank and I want everything to fill out before even considering upgrades!
I'll give him a few months with me - he adds some nice activity to the tank. But before he gets too much bigger I'll have to get rid of him sadly. Beautiful fish.[/quote
Hey Jeff... give me a shout if/when you decide to find a new home for him. I have a 120 that he might like... yeah, I know, it's not huge but it would still give him a lot more room.

I have a Sohal in with a Scribbled rabbit and the tang loves to chase the rabbit in circles on a daily basis. I haven't seen it escalate beyond that but I guess the Sohal did scuff him up at one point when Bob had them. Seems like they have established a "working relationship" however as the rabbit is still very healthy and has great color, appetite etc. so I wouldn't worry too much. In fact, the one who is typically scuffed up these days is the Tang - he always heals pretty quickly though.

Many of you have probably already seen this since it was a tank of the month on RC back in Feb '06 but I just ran across it.

Man.... makes me want to go home and pull the plug (after rescuing all the live beasties of course)! Shows what you can do with enough time and money I guess. I do like the incorporation of natural lighting into the system. Pretty spectacular....

Here's a pic of the hammer.
Thanks! I would be interested in these as well if Cobalt decides against it. Will send you a PM.

Hey Jason, I have a canopy and stand that would fit that tank perfectly (see my post in classifieds) if someone is interested in the tank but needs a stand I would be happy to help work something out for them... it's just going to waste as it is.
Thanks!

Any pics of the coral? Thanks!

Hey Philippe, I would be happy to leave you my number if that helps. I will send you a PM.

That's really unfortunate - sorry to hear about your run of bad luck with the tank. Hopefully things will turn around soon - hang in there!
