  1. If it is a clone' date=' isn't it the [i']same [/i]one? ;-)

    Great looking tank.

Ahh... the conundrum of asexual reproduction (scratch)

Thanks Andy - just trying to get it back in order after a prolonged period of negligence on my part DOH!

  2. That anemone is my biggest regret' date=' getting rid of it that is. It is so beautiful, and it may be one of the only remaining desendants of the famous Saltwater Fanta-seas anemone that sadly has gone to the great toilet bowl in the sky. Or so I've heard.[/quote']

Yeah - I think you may be right. I don't remember seeing it there for quite a while. At least one of it's offspring is still live and kick'n (fingers)

  3. Hey that tank looks familiar. That rose is fricken awesome. Nice job Sean. Looks great

No doubt! You got one coming your way if it ever splits... if we can ever get it off the rock that is. That sucker is anchored at lest a foot down into the rockwork

  4. it's about the same Sean. A bit more color. I'd wait to see what it is going to do. i can get you frags of the red mille' date=' and the purple humulus tomorrow. They are looking much better.[/quote']

Thanks Bob - sent you a PM. Hope that blue colony pulls through!

  5. good point miles' date=' but i will not ever put a top on my tank, dont even know if i could handle the light diffusers. just bugs me. dont like the light blockage....now i dont know what to do. should i buy one and keep it and hope that it doesn't go carpet surfing for a long time?[/quote']

Well... I had a couple of different ones for a total of about 6 years and never had a carpet surfing problem with them. I certainly did with other wrasses but not the six lines. That being said, they were pretty aggressive fish in my tanks (and not just to the other wrasses - yeah, I should know better). One of them also took out some cleaner and peppermint shrimp I believe. Anyway, based on just my personal experience, low jumping risk (in 90 and 120 gallon) but reasonable risk of aggressive behavior - FWIW.

Good luck! They are really great looking fish though which is one reason I have always had one.

  6. :eek:Well good luck with that! I bet you wish it was a sally huh?:p

No doubt! Given that I have only seen one claw ever exposed and the best glimpse I got was of the critter about 8 inches into the rockwork I don't think I will ever get a pic of it... unless the trap works of course (plotting) I'm keeping my fingers crossed (and away from the rockwork at night) :D

  7.

Clean tank by the way, someone should pick this up!

Yeah - I got to check this out last weekend and it is pretty sweet. I like the nice clean CL setup with the bottom returns and top mounted pump. Also, the canopy opens on all three sides for access (wish I had that). I already own one of Bob's old systems though so someone else needs to step up this time!

  8. does it look anything like this? Sally lightfoot crab' date=' they get big, and look like a spider, but are good for the tank. You need to get a pick of it with a flash in the dark...[/quote']

I actually had a sally lightfoot (cool crab) but this thing has claws that were close to a half-inch long - which is one reason I'm anxious to get it out of my tank

  9. Hey Garrett,

Thought I would give you an update on the clowns. I wasn't able (yet) to catch the maroon but the skunks have settled in nicely anyway. I am on the lookout for a carpet for them to host just in case I can't catch the current resident. They are all swimming around together and eating well so all is good so far. It was great to meet you. Hope to see you again when you get up and running at the new local. Best of luck!

    Sean

  10. Looking sharp! I like the design of the external overflow and the oversized stand to allow for the internal routing of the plumping... nice job. Thanks for the "as you go pics" - always nice to see a project come together like that.(rock2)

  11. If that doesn't work, try making a little tiny crab pot.(laugh)

If you have a toy boat too you can recreate a scaled down sceene of "Deadliest Catch". (whistle)

Yeah - the sad thing is I was actually thinking about that - well the crabpot part anyway. I hadn't thought about recreating "Deadliest Catch" but did have dreams about crabs last night... mostly attacking my poor inocent fish while they slept!(sad)

  12. Try taking a large glass or vase. Bait in the bottom, (make sure it is weighted down), then place it in the tank. Place it by leaning it against the rock near where you saw the crab.

The idea is that the crab will go after the bait in the glass. But will not be able to climb back up the smooth sides of the glass.

    Good Luck!!!

Thanks - I will give it a try. I kept coming up with more complicated contraptions but simple is often best. I like it (clap)

  13. Anyone have any great ideas on how to trap a crab? I am thinking a baited "no exit" contraption of some sort but I'm sure someone on here has already been-there-done-that!

So I'm checking out the tank last night after the lights went off and caught a brief glimpse of a large claw poking out from the rockwork. What the... I don't have anything with claws like that (he thinks naively)! After some persistent snooping around with flashlights, I discoverd I have what looks like an emerald crab on steriods but with a smoother darker carapice than most - at least it looks that way in the dark about a foot into the rockwork. This critter must be super catious because I haven't seen him in the year and a half since I moved the tank and haven't added any rock since then. I assume he grew in situ. Anyway, I don't really want him in there but, short of tearing the tank apart, am not sure how to get him out.

    It's always something...

  14. Congratulations! I hope you found someone sypmathetic to the cause... I was lucky enough to get married to a reef lover this summer which certainly helps when I spontaneously come home with bags of goodies (sort of like today).
