  1. Shawn,

Glad you could make it down and take some critters home with you. I know you left with more than you had planned...

    Garrett

Yeah, well that certainly isn't the first time - besides, you had such great deals how could I refuse! Thanks again. I will try and post some pics once things settle into their new home.

  2. If my prop system is all cycled and running' date=' I may be able to host.[/quote']

That would be great Bob - can't wait to see that up and running at your place... expecially if it has frags of some of the great coral you have been collecting lately!

  3. Somebody needs to get that golden rabbitfish before I am forced too!!

Really cool looking fish and a great color to boot!

Not that there would be any doubt but it looked really healthy and a good size for a med sized tank. I would have brought him home too but already have a larger scribbled rabbit.

  4. Greg,

For those interested, I still have the beautiful show hippo tang, two beautiful yellowtangs, and a really nice golden rabbit.

These are indeed really nice fish and a smoking deal to boot. Thanks again for the shrooms, cleaner crew etc. Garrett. I am still trying to figure out how to accommodate the clowns but will make sure they are happy campers. I managed to get the stray mushrooms and coral frags mounted so we shall see what grows out.

Thanks again for all the great deals. Hope to see your new system in a year or two - I am sure it will be awesome!

  5. Hey all,

I just adopted Garrett's family of pink skunk clowns and was wondering if anyone had a carpet amenone they were looking to get rid of that might suit them. If so, let me know. I have yet to extract my maroon clown from the bubble tip and don't want to start a war!

    Thanks!

  6. Nice idea but don't tell my wife - that would put a big dent in my coral budget :D

Maybe set up a specialized Caribbean Arrow Crab tank w/medium sized fish & inverts' date=' such as Condy Anemones. Add a few Macroalgae and you would have a nice biotope exhibit.[/quote']
  7. Thanks for the feedback - sounds pretty definitive from a trustworthy source!

I have heard more bad than good about them as far as eating polyps' date=' featherdusters, small fish, and even other Arrow Crabs. I have seen them tearing into polyps while managing LFS over the years. I would not want one in my tank![/quote']
  8. Hey all,

I am wondering if there is any consensus opinion here on the suitability of arrow crabs in a reef tank. I have heard conflicting things elsewhere but trust the folk on here above other sources so what do you think? My wife really likes these guys but I have a mixed reef with SPS and LPS so not sure it's a good idea.

    Thanks in advance!

  9. I hear that the D-80 and the xSi are just about the same. There is a LOOOOOONG thread over on nano-reef where people with one are bashing the other...

Oh yeah, if there is one sure way to start a fight it's getting photo geeks to start debating Nikon vs. Canon! I can say that since I'm one of them.

Anyway, lots of good advice on here Bob. If you choose a prosumer (non DSLR) make sure the macro capability is good since you are kind of stuck with what you get out of the box for the most part.

    Good luck!

Read myth #15. If you can hold to it, you are a better reefer than I am. I made it 3 months and I bought a pair of clowns. I got tired of only watching hermit crabs fight each other over shells.

Good luck and take your time. Enjoy your tank in each phase, and don't try to rush to a new phase. Let your tank mature.

    dsoz :)

Yeah - this is why some of us have been know to cheat and buy mature systems from other more patient reefers (thanks Bob)! Of course, this comes with it's own challenges - like trying to move them without killing everything. DSoz had a good suggestion though as the more live sand/rock etc. you can add the faster your cycling should be. I would take him up on his offer if you can. Good luck!

  11. Just to be clear.... D and K are meant to be the full version of their respective logos (C and K) with just the anemone color added correct? I just worry that that may have been a little confusing - OK, maybe just for me!

I would also like to thank the powers that be for keeping this open a little longer and all those who contributed. I think there are some really great options to choose from! Great job everyone!(clap)

  12. Is this what you mean?

    clownsrbtacs0.jpg

That's what I was thinking of... sweet! You might be able to go to an even slightly more saturated red/pink if you wanted to without distracting too much from the rest but that looks pretty darn close. It could just be differences in monitor calibration too so someone should probably look at some printed versions as some point. Looks like a winner to me though!

  13. I sure did!

It's going to be a little while until it's set up. Our remodel isn't quite done, so there is no space for it yet, but that just gives me more time to get the stand and canopy fixed up and painted... :D

Great! Good luck with that project - I'm glad it went to a good home. Post some pics once you get it up and running! I was tempted to bring it home myself but I can't even keep up with my current projects...

  14. What about a light' date=' faint pastel red that is more intense at the tips ( and when I say intense, I mean more prominent) and fades to the grayish color or fades to white...Cause I agree to much going on can distract and also brilliant red would not fit in well with the colors you have... So maybe a faint-pastel red that fades would let you know what it is, but still linger in the background like it does now...[/quote']

Hey Vanz - great job with your submissions! I would be curious to see something along the lines of what reefgeek is describing as well if you can manage it - maybe just on #3 (version on lower left) as that seems to be the most popular in general. Thanks again for your efforts!

  15. We just got home and the tank is still in the car, but I just wanted to say thanks for all the help and the extras!

Looking forward to getting the stand fixed up and painted, and getting everything put together. (clap)

Hey Siskiou, did you pick up that cube tank and stand at SWF up in Portland today? I was in the store at the time but didn't realize.... if that was you that is. Hope so as that looked like a tank that could be really sweet if it found a good home.

  16. Those are all interesting ideas.

the wall to the left goes outside unfortunately.

the pop up idea is intriguing. Do you happen to have a link to one of those tanks? It would definitely help to not be squeezed in the back! Of course the alternative would be to just get James to build it for me with the right dimensions...for that space.

Hmmm... I like both the pop-out and two-sided ideas but I guess the latter is off the table. If you have the space and the tank dimensions work out, you could extend it out into the room say a foot or so and get a nice partial 3 sided viewing - just box in the stand and "canopy" to make the wall surfaces smooth. I little extra carpentry but could be a cool effect and get you the extra room. Of course... you could just let James build you one...:D

  17. Since the logo contest has been extended, I would like to see what everything thinks would be cool to see...Rememeber it has to be fairly simple since it is a logo and not a banner, like the awesome one we have already...I think this club is a democracy for the most part, so why not have people's input what should go into it...

    Lets here your thoughts(clap)

Well... as it is a logo, I can see the desire to keep it simple but I am partial to images that lean toward realism and capture some of the natural beauty of the organisms we keep... be they fish or coral. Andy came up with a pretty nice one on the other thread but how about something along those lines with a coral specimen and wrasse? Since it sounds like the banner will be represented on the back of the shirts so it's perhaps less of a big deal to have a representational logo but still.... it's hard to beat the beauty of what we keep in our tanks! I also like designs where the natural lines of the elements help generate part of the "frame" or shape of the overall piece (e.g. the shape of the coral combined with the curve of a fish swimming generating an overall oval). Sorry... I'm probably not putting this into words well but thought I should at least try... Thanks for giving it a shot.

  18. Hey Bob, tank is looking good! That is a nice rose... guess you got tired of waiting for the old one to split;) Looks like that rabbit is doing a nice job keeping the tank clean as well.

Good to see some pics again - thanks for sharing!

  19. its not like it reads like a word LOL! I agree spelling it out would be helpful' date=' but to me its pretty obvious its an acronym. [/quote']

Hah! Ok... got me there Joel. Let me rephrase... It's not an acronym with an obvious meaning/association. :D

  20. rspring - all excellent points and yes, it is extremely hard to design for a) diverse user group and b) without any ongoing feedback, so cudos to you for taking a crack at it. As far as personal tastes go (since this is largely subjective) I do prefer the less "cartoonish" images and also agree that clownfish are somewhat overused (albeit really cute and easily identifiable) so therefore lean toward the logo with the rabbitfish (although I haven't voted). Simple can be good, however, given the fact that PNWMAS isn't an obvious acronym, I can see value to some form of additional text spelling it out (perhaps in a smaller font than the PNWMAS.org). It would be nice to at least include a fish and coral to try and reflect a little more of the diversity of the hobby - I think this is probably where much of the attachement to the banner comes from (and I like that a lot myself). Just my 2-cents. If I had any actual current skills in this area I would take a crack at it but I don't have the time to relearn Illustrator right now. Good luck and thanks again for working at it.
