  1. Unfortunately Chicken Boo did not survive my 2nd tank wipeout. Sometime in the future I'll be setting up another mantis nano, but I'm not sure when.
  2. 75g sold, everything is now out the door. Thanks all!
  3. 29g was picked up Friday, hard to post while I'm trying to pack and move
  4. USCG CWO has reserved the 75g -stand -tank -hood with quad 110w VHOs - the Hello lights unit -sump -DIY Durso standpipe and Littlenano has called it for the 29g -Custom hood -Stand - 175w & VHO lights
  5. I can attempt a pic. It's a bog standard 29g glass tank. Not drilled, but Impur has the stuff to drill the back. Open wooden stand, the hood is oak, and was a custom job. It's about a 1' or so high.
  6. So far this year, I've been laid off, have had 2 computers crash and die on me ( one for the 2nd time ), been "this is not an eviction but get out", and I fell down the stairs and may have broken something in my ankle. ( Also, I'm selling stuff cheap to get it out of my house ) On the plus side, we're moving to Wilsonville, so club functions in PDX will now be really easy to get to.
  7. While not an eviction, it was a "Get out by the end of the month notice." I'm going to keep my 29g and that's pretty much it. 75 gallon tank with stand and corner overflow. DIY Durso. Stand needs some TLC, and tank needs some cleaning. ADDED! I have a sump to go with it. It might leak. It was a drip filter that I was using as a refugium. $100.00 Waiting for Pickup of tank 8x 54W Tek-Light, about $800 new. Bulbs are all 4 months old: 2x 6500K, Actinic, 10,000K, and 20x000K. $100 GONE 29 gallon tank and stand. Oak hood for MH light, included. 175w with 2x actinic VHOs. $100 or best offer. GONE 50 or 55g tank. $20 GONE I can't deliver, and you'll have to pardon the mess when you come and pick it up. This weekend, weather permitting, would be great. Wednesday through Friday ( yes, including Christmas ) we'll be moving to Wilsonville.
  8. Work had been pretty crazy, and ramping up for more craziness. So, it came as something of a surprise when the boss left a note on my computer that "We needed to talk". I figured it was going to be another round of "You really should be working 14 hours a day, 7 days a week". Instead I got a seperation package. The good news is, that I get about a years worth of pay, and my pension in a lump sum. The bad news is, our health and dental runs out at the end of the month, and the "sore spot" near my molar turned out to be a piece of tooth that came off. In completely different news, I went out to my porch to get water from my change water bucket, and found a squirrel face down in it... At this point, 2008 is fired.
  9. You all rock! Would Sunday be a good day for anyone here in Eugene? I'll be up in PDX next weekend Dsoz, up visiting while celebrating my "How the hell did I get to be 41?!?" birthday. Probably headed home on Monday though.
  10. I'm looking for Xenia and leather corals, since I have just 1 card to trade... does anyone have frags of both?
  11. Due to a number things, I won't be able to make it. :/ If there's a paypal address I can chip in $10 to help pay for the coral.
  12. My vote is: acan Duncan zoa/paly If anyone would like, I'd be happy to show them how to sow xenia onto a rock. Just bring cotton thread, a needle, xenia, and the rubble.
  13. I LOL'd "more hermitz PLZKTHNX?"
  14. So I picked up a mantis at Waves a few weeks back. He disappeared, and no signs. No clicking, nothing. I decided to rescape the tank, and lo and behold, I find the mantis. His lair, in a piece of LR was facing the back of the tank. I re-arrange so the lair faces forward. Next day, the mantis has moved out. But! I find his lair under a piece of LR, and it faces forward. I would guess the mantis is about 3" or 3 1/4" inches long, based on seeing it full length and stretched out when I was acclimating it. It's reaction when I try to feed it the 1" long silverside? Terror, pure terror. A few days later, a piece of krill ( about 3/4" long ) provokes the same level of terror. "Get it away from me! Get it away! Oh God! It's going to kiiiiiill me!" Uh huh. We've named him, Chicken Boo. Eventually, I'll post pics. But I guess this means I can get a nano friendly fish, as he has 0 interest in fish. He did take a piece of clam, and after some coaxing, the krill. I did notice that there are fewer hermits in the tank, but only the ones who were about 1/3rd" or less. Apex predator my @ss....
  15. To all you PDX folks: The Corbett Fish House - http://www.corbettfishhouse.com/ They also have one on Hawthorne. I wind up eating their almost every time I'm up in Portland. The food is great, the prices are reasonable, and did I mention the food is great? They're chicken is really, really good too. The only thing they don't have, that I wish they did was GF Onion Rings. Man, I miss onion rings.
  16. Which is what clam breeders do. I couldn't do it.
  17. I'll see what I can manage to do as far as extracting them goes
  18. (whistle) O. havenensis and similar mantis shrimp live down below the 10m mark, in open areas. Water quality issues that wouldn't phase an N. wennerae or other 'higher up the tideline' mantis are lethal to them. They need nearly nitrate free water from what I've been able to gather, plus really stable conditions. Think of them as the delicate LPS of the mantis world. If there wasn't the worry about food decay spiking the quality, it would be a good idea.
  19. Cool! Thanks! Especially for the link.
  20. Don't get me started, or I'll wind up launching my own rant. Though the most jacked up thing I ever saw was the '84 Olympics when they'd cut to the boxing to tell you the results but made sure we all got to see the dressage events. Lord knows, most Americans can't get enough of really wealthy people riding horses and I don't even like boxing... and there I go.
  21. Hey all, I need suggestions for corals that can be put in a 20L aquarium, lit with 2 NO flourescent tubes. And no, this is not a joke. Mostly likely 1 actinic and one 20,000K ish light. The tank would be a species tank for an O. havenensis mantis - bright lights are a no go for this and similar species, they cause shell rot. I was thinking mushrooms. Due to water quality issues non-photosynthetic corals aren't an option. Even if the answer is "nothing", input is appreciated.
