  1. Hey folks. This tank has been months in the making. A few of you will know all about my odyssey just trying to get the tank in one piece. So here it is. As we all know, the AquaPod is one of those all-in-one nano reefs. Mine is the twenty four gallon version with the 150 watt halide. It comes with a 1200 gph circulation and filter pump but I don't think anyone on this forum that has an AquaPod actually stuck with it and neither did I. Replaced it with a MJ 1200 and installed a second one by drilling a second hole and putting a 1/2 inch bulkhead. I ditched the Loc Line fan returns that came with it and put in two Hydor Flo's instead. They are continuosly running and so create turbulent flow pretty much throughout the tank. There's a titanium heater in it as well. This was an upgrade from a 16 gallon bowfront and fortunately I was able to fit the hang on the back DIY refugium I had with some chaeto and an awesome little mangrove that Iv'e had for a while now. It is lit with a hanging 18 watt power compact fixture. For now there is no mehcanical filtration and no protein skimming. The tank is stocked with various soft corals and a single Euphylia and Plerogyra specimen respectively. The transfer went okay but took longer than expected. If I could give anyone advice when doing an upgrade like this it would be to make up lots of extra water. Way more than you think you will need. Lastly I want to apologize for the quality of the pics as I haven't really played around much with my camera and am not too familiar with it. Plus I'm sight impaired so that makes it a little worse. Hopefully you get the idea.
  2. Ah yes beer is good. Where do you guys like to go when you go for beer here in Eugene? I like the Beer Stein but it's kinda small. High St Brewery is a great hangout.
  3. Just seeing who all here is in Eugene. Perhaps may want to hang out sometime and grab a beer and chat about reeftanks.
  4. In case anyone is still checking this thread, http://www.myspace.com/youngblueeyes310 Check me out!
  5. Wow I'm a magician as well and I'm still impressed someone found a way to combine my two hobbies.
  6. I wish I could drill my glass bowfront but I'd probably shatter it. Maybe someday I'll upgrade to an acrylic tank. My LFS told me that acrylic tanks aren't very popular around here is that right? Also are there any places where I can get a custom acrylic tank made locally?
  7. Can't wait to see the new pics. I'm into the smallish tanks myself.
  8. Very nice. I like the bowfront look myself. I've a little sixteen gallon version. What's the length of that tank?
  9. I've got a final to study for so no St Patrick's for me. It's ok to feel bad for me. :(
  10. Geez Piero that's quite a response, What I took away from the video and the responses I read from your post is that NO ONE can predict what will or won't happen. BOTH sides are notorious for making errors in the field of climatology. One point that the movie made and that the resoponses only proved (to me) is the shrill tenor of discourse. I think it was the first link you posted had a response with an ad hominem attack on the director and also cut into some of the scientists. Do you see why folks get defensive and even more skeptical? Why can't we agree that global warming is a very real possibility BUT that WAY more data should be gathered before we can draw conclusions and make predictions of catastrophe and hinder economic progress. Another point the movie makes and the responses prove is the level of politics in science today. That needs to stop ASAP or science will be relegated to junk science and history will put it in the same category of Yellow Journalism.
  11. I haven't been paying attentionn to the NCAA basketball tournament, when are the Beavers playing? hehe And thanks again guys for the warm welcome! Hopefully I'll ge to meet some of you someday.
  12. Indeed it is a really good idea. I would've thought they would've been able to get more corals than they farmed though.
  13. ...and much like the Titanic, the global warming predictions hold no water. ZING!!!!
  14. It was wise to save the rock. How many pounds did you have in the 200 gallon?
  15. Very nice, what's the lighting setup?
  16. Ok well I've tried to go through the entire thread but my bad eyesight means that ain't gonna happen but I did want to jump in here as a late comer and offer something I think you guys might find interesting. Hopefully. It's a speech given by Michael Crichton of Jurassic Park fame. He talks about the global warming in the context of politics in science and what really caught my attention is the part of the speech that talks about consensus in science. Please, whatever side of the argument you're on, don't use consensus among scientists as a point of arguement. It's been shown SO many times that consensus is almost meaningless. What's scary is how science has evolved to become entangled in politics. Hell, environmentalism IMO, is almost entirely about politics. Why have the US and Australia not signed on to the Kyoto Accord? Do some research. China and India (two of the biggest emitters of greenhouse gasses) would be completely exempt from having to lower their levels. Ok I'm done. Anyway here's the link to the speech http://www.crichton-official.com/speeches/speeches_quote04.html and yes it's really called "Aliens Cause Global Warming"
  17. Somehow that music was kinda creepy too. It kept going alittle after he got bit.
  18. Hey Uhuru, I'm a newbie as well but welcome! You like the fact that we're being compared hair algae? Yikes.
  19. Lol, yeah the whole Duck-Beaver thing is still kinda new to me but as a student at the U of O I'm starting to learn about Duck loyalty.
