  1. I have a gal at work that would like to have a nano tank on her desk. I know next to nothing about them but have done some reading. I saw what appears to be a nice 12 gallon tank with a full 3 compartment refugium on the back on Tanks Direct.com. The light is a T-5 with 4 32W tubes and I believe the pump is about 190GPH. Is there a best size nano? Would it need a skimmer? Would this tank support a few soft corals and one fish? Your input would be appreciated. Thanks. Gary.
  2. What kind of critters do you consider to be the best sand cleaners, and how many for a 55 gallon tank?
  3. Anyone out there ever used a sea hare to clean up hair algae? Are they delicate? How long did it live? After the algae was all gone what did you feed it? Thanks Gary.
  4. reply Sent a PM but might have done it wrong. I am interested in the JBJ light and the halide. Gary
  5. Query to jadams7 Interested in the two lights, no idea what they are worth and don't want to insult you with a ridiculous offer so what do you want to get out of them?Gary
  6. tang compatability How about these combos, chevron/yellow-yellow eye kole/yellow-sailfin/yellow. If you know of a combo that will likely work please offer your wisdom. Thanks
  7. Just a couple of questions. Are henichous butterfly fish any more prone to ick than other fish generally? Is there a tang that can be put with a yellow tang? I know two yellows wont work, saw that once, was'nt pretty. Thanks.
  8. coral farmers head count JMorrell and GMiller have tickets.
  9. Anyone out there ever deal with Marine and Reef.com out of Tempe Arizona? Checking to see if they are reputable. Thanks.
  10. Does anyone out there have a pump, inline or submersible that pushes 500 to 700 GPH ? I need one to feed a chiller. Thanks.
  11. Izzypop, would like to talk to you I have a few questions and I do want the chiller. Please send me your phone number and I will call you. It is 5:00 now so I will check back about 6:00 for your reply.
  12. lux meter The meter I'm looking at has a underwater probe and measures intensity wherever you put it in the tank. I'm interested in mapping my tank so I'll know where to put corals to meet their light requirement. The color of light is determined by the kelvin rating of the bulb,or am I all wet? I have read so much conflicting information on lighting I'm not sure what to believe. Thanks for your input.
  13. I have seen some interest in the club having a Lux meter. Foster &Smith has one on sale now for next to $85.00. If we can get 17 or 18 people to pitch in $5.00 each we can have it. I am about to order from Foster&Smith so I will order it when I have enough responses and $5 bills. I will keep a list in the order of response and this will be the order of use. When the meter arrives I will use it to map the light levels in my tank and promptly mail it to the next person on the list. We all need to promise to use the meter promptly and mail it to the next on the list. When everyone has used the meter it will be sent to the president of PNWMAS, which I believe is Chief for safe keeping and can be requisitioned from him in the future. I for one am tired of guessing the light levels in my tank for the placement of coral and this hobby is a bit expensive to be guessing. I am relatively new to the hobby so can use all the help I can get so I dont croak any livestock. Just a thought so let me know what you think and maybe we can have this meter at our disposal relatively painlessly. Gary
  14. I've heard of a aptasia control paste made of calcium powder and R/O water, but it clogs the orifice of the syringe when either trying to suck it up or if you pour it into the syringe and re-insert the plunger. Does anyone know what you might use as an emulsifier to make the stuff flow when it is the correct consistency, a-la Joe's juice?
  15. Has anyone out there ever kept a marine betta, (calloplesiops altivelis)? If so tell me about it, and did you have trouble getting it to eat?.
  16. Here are some of the fish in my tank. Tank has been up for a year and doesn"t look like all that much yet, think I need better lighting to get some corals going but the fish are excellent ,though, photography leaves a bit to be desired.
  17. Hi, what do you folks out there think of Selcon? Is it really beneficial for the fish or just a waste of money?
  18. Hi. Does anyone out there know about or use a product called Black Powder? A friend of mine was given some and started putting it in his tank on a weekly basis and his corals are growing like crazy. Is it the black powder or is his tank just in great shape? I just realized I posted this same message on the classifieds, sorry dont know how to take it off. I'm a regular computer whiz. NOT.
