  1. Don't want to make an upgrade if I can grow some soft corals. I'm just confused with all the conflicting opinions on lighting, and I don't want to put animals in the tank just to see if they can make it. Tried a piece of xenia and it just shriveled. Have done some work on my water changeover rate and circulation inside the tank and things generally look better so maybe I should try another small piece. I may just add one 65W T-5 full spectrum daylight, as always any input is appreciated. Thanks
  2. I'm now using 260W compact fluorescent 50/50/
  3. upgrading my lighting on a 55 gallon tank with 40 gallon sump. My tank in 17 inches deep and I am not interested in keeping hard corals, perhaps a clam someday, and I keep my tanks in the garage so the heat from metal halides would be a problem without air conditioning, do you think a 8 tube T-5 light fixture at 432 watts would give me enough penetration? I have read a lot on the net on lighting and remain confused as ever on the subject. Any input from out there would be appreciated. Thanks.
  4. If anyone who is going to the meeting sunday would like to have a bi-color dottyback , I am bringing one that is mean as a snake and I hate to see him live in a 5gal tank that I have him in because he killed my yellow watchman and a lawnmower. My tank is very passive so he wont work for me. Maybe someone with a more aggressive tank could give him a good home. This little terror is only 2 1/4 inches long.
  5. In the last few weeks someone had a T-5 8 tube fixture for sale in the classifieds and I've forgotten who. Is it still for sale?
  6. newbie has a question. I have a tomato clown and am wondering if anyone out there has seen this behavior. The clown turns vertical in the tank and fans its tail to dig holes, all over the place. could'nt be spawning as he is the only clown in the tank unless we have an immaculate conception going on. I have talked to this fish about the mess he or she is making, but to no avail. my curiosity is killing me so any info will be appreciated. thanks
  7. Hello to all, a newbie here. I have a 55 gallon tank with two 30 gallon sumps and a canister for running charcoal. Have a few fish and corals but need to upgrade my lighting to get the corals to thrive. Now to my problem. I have a lot of bristleworms in my tank and in the last week I have pulled out 9 turbo snail shells sans snail and have seen worms on the shells. Now I understand the worms are beneficial and I tested the water and everything is within acceptable standards and all livestock appears to be doing fine. My question is will the worms attack living tissue? I thought not but now am not sure. I am contemplating getting an 8 line wrasse for a little worm control but understand they will sometimes go for the fan worms and snails. Any thoughts you have to share will be greatly appreciated, thanks.
