  6. cool beans! let me know if you need a hand with this thing. i would love to help. looking forward to your new tank!
  7. tank is having some algae issues, but here you go...
  8. thanks for the input, Impur. have you had a check valve fail? i have one on my 72 that has been there for 1 1/2 years and worked fine a couple days ago. do they just get dirty? or does the diaphram get brittle? i think i would add a drain on the sump so that if the pump and check valves fail, it will at least save the floor!
  9. hey modularduck. those are sweet! i want one! let me know if you can frag 'em(naughty)
  10. thanks Jay. i was thinking someone must have tried this before. i will definately take your advice into consideration. for some reason, i think ive got this nailed and will give the plumbing a try with fresh water and try to make it overflow. im guessing it is possible, but tricky. im thinking some check valves strategically located may help? when i get my stands built, ill let you know what i come up with and how miserably i fail...lol. thanks, Ben
  11. thanks, mike. do you remember the scientific name of it? i cant find it on line cause i dont know what to search for.lol
  12. hi all. working on setting up a 37 gallon tall aquarium. i have most of the equipment i need, and the rest is on order. mostly looking to keep lps and sps, with some zoos and shrooms. the question i have is this: i am trying to eliminate clutter and only use 1 external pump. i purchased a pcx 40 and have been trying to figure out how to plub it in. my idea is that since this pump will put out approximately 1200 gph, to divide this into a few different sources. the outflow from the pump will be branched off to feed a skimmer, a separate refugium(that drains back into the sump), a return line, and a partial closed loop. the intake will be partially fed from the sump that overflows from the display, and im trying to incorporate an intake from a closed loop type of strainer in the display. hard to explain, so please ask questions if you need to. any and all input is appreciated. once i figure this out and get the rest of my supplies, i should be able to start my build. ill keep you all posted. thanks.
  13. i recently bought a diamond goby. does a great job of cleaning the top of the sand. good personality and cool colors when he does come out in the light. likes to dig, though, so make sure your rock is stable.
  14. yep. a few more days before theyll be used to the new set-up. i feed my softies cyclopeeze, oyster eggs, and spirulina brine. seems to be a good combo. also, just about everyone likes reef-chili!
  15. nice start! what mods did you end up doing? i think those koralia pumps are great. lots of flow and great mount with the magnet. when you get some coralline growing you will hardly notice it. keep us posted!

personally, i like the deeper tanks and would make the 48 the back. unfortunately, it is hard to find real estate enough to do that kind of set-up. sounds like it will be nice, either way. keep us posted
  17. Appears to be cyano bacteria. not good and can take over rather quickly. watch your alkalinity, keep good flow and do a healthy (20% or so) waterchange. also, you can use a turkey baster to blow it off and suck it out. try to avoid chemicals as they may affect your biological filter in the tank.
  18. ive got an rps 1ooo waiting for time to set up a new tank. if you want to drive to salem, you can use it until yours shows up. i can pick it up when youre ready as i go to portland about every 2 weeks.
  19. thanks for the link nyles! looks like i need to MAKE room for a fixture. that comparison was good to see.
  20. thanks mike. but i forgot to specify i was looking for a flat fixture as i have limited height. i have an old reptile light, but not enough room for it. maybe an old pc fixture? will a NO freshwater flourescent work?
  21. a 30 gal sump is fine for that skimmer. i too have an rps 1000 skimmer in a diy 29gal sump. the sump is about 2/3 full(approx. 20 gal) and i did have to lift the skimmer a bit. two 3" abs couplings(on their side) from lowes work great!
  22. curious as to what lighting to put over a 10 gal refugium. is there a minimum requirement for growth of algaes and pods and the like? never set one up and im trying to figure out what to get for optimal performance. thanks all!
