  1. Well the store i worked at a few years ago down here in Corvallis (Animal House) had some turtle grass on their lists, so I ordered a few clumps from him, it will be here tuesday. But if it comes in in poor condition I may just have to drive up to Aloha and get some from Sunset Tropicals. P.s. I have no clue how much a clump is, thats just what they called it on the list "turtle grass clumps," Guess I'll find out. Kyle
  2. I am looking for seagrass preferably a pacific species but I know the atlantic species are more common in the hobby. If anyone has any that they can spare or if anyone knows any stores that have it I would be interested to buy or trade, Thanks, Kyle
  3. Ha I've done the old plumb the closed loop backwards thing before, I feel your pain!
  4. I wonder if the flame hawk or leopard wrasse are eating anything interesting that comes in on the rock? just a thought
  5. no problem, thats understandable
  6. I have one with a cracked back panel you could have for free. I know this probably isnt what your looking for but if its going to be drilled anyway it would be easier to drill the pane of glass before siliconing it back into place. anyways if you want it its yours just PM me! kyle
  7. hmm yes It does resemble leptoseris. I had a small colony for a while that came in on some star polyps, I bought the star polyp colony only because I wanted the leptoseris growing on its base! Is it a fleshy coral or is the skin layer rather thin?
  8. me either it looks fine though dry, I havent gotten around to washing all thousand pounds of it yet, haha
  9. you could also try the Reef Invertebrates book by Robert Fenner and Anthony Calfo, if I recall that had a good section on worms. If you can get pictures of them you might post them on this forum; marinedepot.com/forums, post them under Ronald Schimeks section, He is a very knowledgeable source on marine invertabrates and he even taught at OSU for a time. Good luck
  10. Just checking in to see if there is an update on the sand, Thanks!
  11. When is the order taking place? I am for sure down for 500 pounds but if money permits (its been real tight lately) I will get 1000. I also vote for the sugar fine sand. I would be willing to do the next step up as long as its not too much bigger.
  12. Or better yet plumb a small tank (I'm envisioning a ten to twenty gallon) into your system that you could dedicate to these guys. I'm sure with a bit of digging for info you could easily have a nice biotope display.
  13. This link and the link found within this link should explain a lot of info. http://forum.marinedepot.com/Topic103112-9-1.aspx
  14. yea I googled em and found all that, I have a couple tubs with no rock just deep sand beds they might do good in. I'm more worried about whether they are going to continually topple growing corals as that would make them an innapropriate addition
  15. I'm sure I can look it up but do you happen to know a species name on those critters? I hadn't really thought of sharks but I have some large culturing vessels in my greenhouse and now the wheels in my brain are starting to spin! I will look into it more and see if these guys would be appropriate for my tanks! Thanks. Kyle Ps, I bet they would look awesome under natural sunlight!
  16. even though the tank checks out properly there could still be something stressing it out, for example large Ph shifts after dosing kalkvasser or large day to night swings. This probably is not the case but at least its worth looking into how stable all your parameters are staying.
  17. very nice! I was in Maui last winter and am going to the big island in may for business (Ha poor me.) I am very excited. On maui when I was there there were not to many yellow tangs but a lot of convicts and nasos, as well as a many other species. I also agree having someone to look after your tank is a very nice thing to have, it keeps my peace of mind while im not in town!
  18. while I disagree with "boorish behavior" I was backing a friend who whether what he did or said was right or wrong is a knowledgeable source of much needed information in a hobby full of mis-information by well intended but ill informed aquarists.
  19. I call people num-nuts because thats what they are, when you post things like : "I dont do water changes and my tank looks great except for the cyano bloom that just started happening, why did this happen?" of course I think your a num-nuts. P.S. JasonH When you say "step down off the cross" that is offensive to me, which I believe is why this thread all started.
  20. I do not like that I am being targeted (moderator 3) for sticking up for a friend that is very dedicated to the captive growth and rearing (thats right how many of you have had corals spawn and grow out successfully in your tanks, snorkekelwasp has) of coral reef invertabrates. what is this talk of middle eastern "dissing" I would like it to be brought to light as I have had friends serve over seas in Iraq and have also had very good friends of middle eastern discent, it really bothers me that this behavior is accepted by this site. I have seen it from both sides of the spectrum. as far as knowledge goes snorkelwasp has much more than many of us, I can recall a plethora of conversations that lasted 3-4 hours on reef related topics, many of these have made me the reefer I am today and without these talks my tank wouldn't be what it is now. He really knows his stuff, I would like anyone who can honestly say they have grown a coius microlepis, or even knows what that is(without google/fishbasing it), to over a foot long to speak up and then we can talk about kowledge of the aquarium world, believe me snorkelwasp is a wealth of information you dont want to loose.
  21. when you say you did water changes how often and how much water were you changing?
  22. I don't want this to be a negative post or go in a negative direction, I just would like to point out a few things. I have known snorkelwasp for many years, meeting about five years ago while working at a pet store. He can be a very opinionated and bull-headed guy but he does have a ton of good knowledge about reef systems, especially when it comes to setup and design. Kicking him off would be a loss of much good information. "My tank is my resume" anyone who has seen his tank would certainly agree with this statement as it is a well thought out and designed mature tank. It is not some tank that has been up and running for six months with all the latest fad corals placed willie-nillie without regard for each individual corals care, anyone whos been in the hobby a long time knows what im talking about. although he is bull-headed he is a great person in the hobby to know. Last week my tank cracked in the middle of the night and he got out of bed to wait for me at 2 in the morning to drive over and get heaters from him. The next day he came over and helped me set my tank back up, he even gave me a bag of salt just to be nice. If it werent for him that night I would have lost most of my fish and corals (many of them are reaching the ten year old mark.) Snorkelwasp and I share many of the same frustrations with this site, while my personality allows me to simply ignore most of the rediculous things on this site his does not. I simply don't post that often becuase I am tired of being told I'm wrong or my idea won't work by some who think they know everthing because they have a year and a half old tank with a few browned out acroporas and a colony of designer zoanthids. which, of course, means they must know more about reef keeping than my ten years worth of knowledge has accumulated. Beleive me, he has a lot of good info that can be shared and it would do a lot of people good to step back and realize that they don't know it all, I sure dont and Ive been doing it since i was 14 (im 24 now). Thanks, Kyle
