  1. i have heard that rios can tend to leak oil....i hear grerat things about maxijets though
  2. thanks for quick reply! i dont want to be limited as to what i can keep although i will probably start with zoos and other softies until i get all the dosing pumps and such for kalk so i can keep clams. baffles are bad? thought they helped with microbubbles? and how do i do a refugium in the sump without the baffles? i figured i needed some rubble and sand as well as some chaeto in the sump to help keep nitrates in check.
  3. ebay has 1000 for 10 bux......buy five sets and shippings free
  4. check out ebay guys! if you arent too picky on color you can get 1000 tees for 10 bux....plus if you buy five sets the shipping is free!!
  5. how big is the aqua c in height? I am thinking of getting one cuz im kinda limited with a 23 inch height in stand. can it be used in sump? how bout hanging it on side of sump to leave more room for a refugium?
  6. maybe a smaller or different sort to use as an avatar? i know RC allows custom avatars.....i think.....
  7. thats why i started posting on forums anyhow.....so i could ask nub questions! I would feel like an idiot back when i first got interested in reefing and had gone to a LFS and asked "whats live rock?" so forums are great for that! I will give as much help to the nano section as ican....i lurked on several other forums in the nano section absorbing info cuz that was the route i was originally planning to go!
  8. ps> a 15 is all that will fit in my stand....just checked....lol
  9. mmmkay i will start...i am building a 40 stretch hex and am planning a 250w MH 14k with a 15 gallon sump and an overflow box cuz i dont want to drill til i move and have a more permanant tank setup. soo....is 15 gallon sump enuf? what skimmer would u reccomend? how many powerheads and what kind? anyone got any ideas for baffles in sump? this is my first reef tank....so any pics of correct sump setup appreciated. I am planning on getting one of flyguy's kick@ss rock lifts! How deep of a sand bed should i go with? I want fish that will sift it and keep it clean and i hear they need like 4-6 inches of sand which is alot to me. All help appreciated!
  10. you are 100 percent right jay, i think agu got what i was asking for on RC a little mixed up....what i wanted was something similar to what you have made. sorry for any confusion.
  11. I will add any of my limited knowledge that is relevant happily. I think the people here have a lot to offer reefers everywhere with some of the ingenious DIY's i see such as Flyguys rock lifts. those things are commercial quality from the pics i have seen! another thing i think may be helpful as far as reviews go is maybe a book review. im sure many people have bought books and then thought "this is crap". same goes for equipment. maybe a nano tank thread would be great! It seems that the busiest forum on RC is the nano forum as that is how most people getting into the hobby at first are goingwith all in one nanos and small (20 gal and less) tanks.
  12. you are right about the part of keeping the club in its own control and definately right that we shouldbe answering questions directly or at least sending them a link to a post on our own forum before sending them to another site. Its good business practice so to speak. But i would like to see maybe a noob section where some of our more knowledgable members who have been there and done that can post some sticky'd info about how to get started in reefing and maybe list the basic equipment needed such as skimmers lights and the sort. I would like to see maybe a few comparison posts in the equipment section about which skimmers are most effective and prices for comparison. I am a reef noob so to speak so take these ideas as just that....a noob looking for more helpful information. We cant wait for the people who run the show here to do everything for us....so we need to start these threads ourselves. Maybe a thread where people can post thier experiences with different products or companies. I know we try to support our LFS as much as possible when buying goods but I also know that there isnt a reef WALMART with aisles of every brand and product. so if we shop online maybe a thread describing experiences with online retailers both good and bad? I know most of these things seem like old news to some of our long time reefers but like any other hobby its the noobs like me and others that are the future of the hobby and we need to cater to them as well to ensure the growth of our favorite pastime! just my .02
  13. 1.5 to 2lbs is a good number to shoot for. the more rock you use the better your filtration will be and the higher bioload (more fish) you can have. plus all that rock gives you cool places to stick corals!!! hehehehhe.....
  14. LOL.....run in with thier mods? how exactly do you piss off a mod anyhow? i have never had any probs. Anyway, only reason i looked into it is the amount of traffic that goes thru there daily.....a lot of people from NW as well.
  15. thanks for all your help guys! I rented a 2 bedroom condo thru horizonrentals.com with a private hot tub, full kitchen, private deck and amazing view for 120 a night in roads end which is right near lincoln city! thanks again guys! (clap) (clap) (clap) (clap)
  16. I contacted a mod on RC about getting some space there and this is what he wrote back: In order for us to setup a new reef club forum on Reef Central, we need the following information from you. Club Name: Description: (125 characters or less including spaces and punctuation) Web site URL: Email addresses of people to notify about new posts to the forum: The forum will be setup a couple of days after we get the information from you. I prefer you send the info to an admin, less work for me . Agu
  17. i thought about the adobe but heard it was dirty and that all the rooms smell like smoke? if its nice tho i may go thre
  18. thanks for all the suggestions guys.....anyone else with ideas keep em coming! I need all the help i can get! LOL
  19. must be nice....only room available is at starfish and is 400 bux a night! OUCH!
  20. well said......people do have jobs and iam new to this forum and hadnt realized it had just changed hands so to speak. With that said id say things are going nicely and that planning events such as bbq's and beach cleanups takes a lot of time and effort that is not monetarily rewarded. I look at other forums such as Reef central and while i do see alot more people on there posting away it seems to be the same questions and topics getting re-hashed over and over and over and over. At least here i dont have to read the same questions such as "which light for my 10 gllon?", and "how many fish can i fit in my tank?", asked by ten different people every day.
  21. Hey all you reefers that love the ocean and oregon coast like i do.....what is the best place to stay between florence and astoria? I am thinking more between newport and lincoln city if any of you have stayed in that area let me know where and how you liked it. I am taking the wife to the coast for our one year wedding anniversary(yahoo) this weekend but am stumped as to where to go. Its gotta be nice or my wife will never forgive me haha! (wife) (hidesbehindsofa) I looked online but every hotel and motel has the most awesome and scenic pictures on thier website but i know this is very deceiving as not all resorts are gems. I was thinking the inn at spanish head but have heard good and bad things and its kinda spendy at 200 bux a night. All help is welcome!! Thanks in advance on helping out a fellow reefer! (clap) (clap) (clap)
  22. some side by side tests of different lighting setups or test kits and such would be great....good idea jay!
  23. I have been tryingto steer more nw reefers that i run into on RC and other sites into here hoping to perk up the knowledge and idea base a bit. Maybe we can get a spot in RC's club section? I am running into manypeople here in central oregon who didnt know that this group even existed and have since checked it out. I think this is a great site especially for the classified section (even if hardley anythging new in there) because that way i can find equipment without looking at offerings in Florida or some other far off place i dont want to pay shipping from. And since I live in the land of NO LFS the sponsor sites WOULD be more helpful if they perhaps had a listing of current livestock or maybe what brands or models of equipment they sell? I would much rather just drop by when im in the valley and pick something up i need rather than buyit online but i never know what these stores have. I know i can call but looking quickly online is SOOOO much faster for me. I really dont see anything wrong with the chat but I woulxd rather use AIM or MSN messenger personally. just my .02
  24. the problem is that the only cards worth money are the hot rookies and they are only worth money til they suck. And the stupid card companies took a good idea like insert cards and produced it to death by making the packs 80 percent inserts and having mutiple levels of base sets forcing people to buy 10x as many packs to complete a set. So now people just rip open packs looking for jersey cards and memorabilia cards they can put on ebay. Collecting cards was killed by the very people who depend on it for a livelihood. morons.
