  1. I think Woody at Seahorse pushes those things. From what Ive heard (never used myself) they dont work very good. Any movement from current or anything and dissolve REALLY fast. They might have their place but, not in my tank. Dennis
  2. I have this top off system running on my 125g tank. It works really good. Keeps the water level in the sump dead on. The only think I dont really care for about it is that it sometimes makes a noise when it turns on. Not sure why but from what I read and what AM said, it's normal. It works well and looks decent also. R-3, your are correct, I saw one there this past weekend. Didnt look at the price. Dennis
  3. CCR, I mean the physical size of the pump. Dennis
  4. I just recently got a stream 6000 with a single controller. The flow it produces is great. On my 125gal, 4' tank however, the thing is HUGE!! If I had it to do again, I dont think I would put a stream on anything less than say, a 180 gal. The vortechs are nice but, not as controllable as the tunze is (from what I read). The "stream" of water comming out of the stream pump is also wider less concentrated than the "stream" from the vortcech. The vortech however would appear to definitly work better in a smaller tank than the gargantuan stream pump. Dennis
  5. Living in the Troutdale area myself, I find it kind of strange that the east wind can blow 70mph for days and there is absolutly no damage. But, if we get a 30mph gust from a different direction, trees, powerlines, etc are falling all over the place. Dennis
  6. In my opinion, the symptoms are definitly related to light shock. The corals need a proper acclimation to the new lighting. I would use the plastic window screening from lowes or home depot. Just put like 3-4 pieces on top of each other and every 5-6 days, remove a piece of the window screen. This slow acclimation will allow the damage done to heal and hopefully you wont lose anymore coral. HTH's Dennis
  7. Ron, that is an excellent idea. Not sure if it would work in a 24" wide tank but...like you said, it beats breaking all the tank down! I like the hiding behind the couch smiley. It is very befitting. Dennis
  8. I think it's a case of zoanthelle swaping. Do a search on ReefCentral and I think you will find some info. It is definitly documented...just gotta find it. Very cool pics!! Dennis
  9. Working in a pharmacy and all, I was thinking, wouldn't it be nice to have a "medicated" food that once eaten, allows the fish to kinda, drift off into a peaceful slumber? Then wake up after 30 minutes or so without any ill effects. Hmm.....kinda like a tranquilizer. Dennis
  10. No..I havent tried the little hooks yet. I went to GI joes before looking for small enough hooks but couldnt find any. I cant remember but I think size 14 was the smallest. It was still too big for a damsal. Hmm....drain the tank to 1". Thats a good idea but, I could still see them wedging themselves in the rock work somewhere. Then I have the other fish, including a powder blue (From you Joel!) that is very prized due to the looooonnnngggg and ROUGH acclimation it went thru. Dennis
  11. Sometimes Ron, the only way to do it is to rip your reef apart. That is what Im going to have to do to get those 4 damnsals out. It's gonna happen a week from this Saturday. It always seem like your tank is doing sooooooooo good to. Then, ya gotta rip it apart. Not fun but....necessary. DEnnis PS: No idea how to lure out a LMB. Does it like mysis shrimp??? Always seems to be a good bait.
  12. too bad....if we could only get fish to vote on bond issues...
  13. Oh man! You're the blind guy that ran out in front of me on Sandy at the four way stop. I thought something was suspicious!! (plotting)(nutty) Dennis
  14. Nice...whatta guy James. A definite asset to our hobby. Dennis
  15. Ya, I'm sure you could use an led moonlight if you wanted. I use a standard 25w blue party bulb. It's an incadecent bulb. Ive used it as a moonlight for the past 5 years. It hasent burned out yet! When it's a "full moon" though, it is a bit bright for my 125gal tank but, the fish havent complained too much. Dennis
  16. I havent had any problems with my DC8 either. My problems have been with the controller. One little beny to the DC8 is, that the 8th outlet is dimmable. So, you can plug you're moon light into outlet number 8 and run the automatic moon phase program on the ACjr. Works pretty good. The guy at neptune said that they had some flickering problems (and I have had a couple) with using outlet 8 for dimming. Thats why they didnt advertise the feature. Ive used it now a year and a half or so and have had flickering moonlight just a couple times. Dennis
  17. Fixed it right up eh? Ok, I will send an email to Neptune. Thanks! Dennis
  18. My AC jr definitly has some bugs. It sometimes completely re-boots after using the manuel over ride for a pump or whatever. Then it loses it's settings. Then there is the time issue. It looses about 10 minutes or so a month. For the money, ya cant beat it though! Dennis
  19. Cool! Looks to be porities to me. Kinda commen on liverock. Hardy stuff! Dennis
  20. Definitly very good ideas. Thanks for the drawings. I plan on trying something this weekend or next. I have to work too much! .97 sounds like a great plan! If I took a container from the cupboard and "altered" it for "fish tank use", my wife would skin me alive. It's the "for the fish tank" part that she would have a problem with. If I ruined the container for ANY other reason then, "for the fish tank", she would probably let it slide. Somethin' about wives and fish tanks just dont mix.(wife) (scary) Dennis
  21. Ya Nyles, post a pic if ya can. Thanks Dennis
  22. They are 4 of the blue-fin, aka; black damsals. Dennis
  23. Ron...hopefully it wont all be dined on before you get a frag!!! Nyles, good idea. If the trap that Joel has dosent work out, I might try it. Dennis
  24. Ron..these are blue fin damsals. Not sure if they are same as yours. They are pretty when they're juviniles but as they mature...they turn black. Not really as attractive but, they eat soft coral so, they gotta go. I have a large colony of Palau, ultra green sinularia that they have been chomping on. This is the sinularia that Upscales was selling for $50 for a small frag. I DO NOT want to loose this coral to a few $4 fish!! Here's the coral. The colony stays closed now 24/7 due to the little ba$tards!!
  25. LOL...Joel...You can have ALL four of 'em!! Thanks..I'll stop by Sunday if you'll be around. Hold on to it. Dennis
