  1. Just wanna make sure everything looks ok. First anemone for us like this, so just want to make sure. Looks a little closed up on one side. Hasnt really opened that side fully yet. But she did move off from her clam shell, to where she is now and hasnt budged. Guess she likes to have her foot wedged down in the rocks. But anyways.. any info is appreciated.
  2. im almost tempted to go buy a blender just to trade you :p
  3. lol.. got it as a bookmark on every computer i use :p
  4. should i have the excess go back to the sump or just put the ball valve in? I dont want to put too much back pressure on the pump, seeing as I dont know how well it could handle it.
  5. Well I finally gave in and bought a new return pump. Some of you may know that I'm a huge advocate of slow/low flow through the sump. For the past couple of years, I've been using a MJ1200 as my return pump. Works awesome, and lets the skimmer do it's job. My only problem with it was, that my U-tube would always get air trapped in it, because the flow wasnt enough, so I found myself resetting the U-tube once a week or so. Kind of a pain in the butt. Gotta turn off the return, pull the U-tube out etc etc. So I didnt really want to spend much on a fancy return pump, so I ended up getting a Sea Line SL-6530 which is rated at 430 gph. (Great pump BTW. Its quite silent, more so then the MJ1200 I was running.) I figured my regular 'ol U-tube overflow with 1" drain would be able to handle it no problem. I always thought a U-tube overflow with 1" drain could handle about 600gph. Problem. First off, the overflow couldnt handle the return pump. I actually had to add another U-tube I had laying around just to keep up with it. And that added even more problems. Flushing. To fix the problem temporily I added another hole to my stockman. That seems to have helped the flushing a bit. Still makes noise, but for now I can live with it. But the overflow still doesnt look like it can handle it. The water level inside the overflow box, doesnt go down as far as it used to, and has stopped skimming the top of the water. So now I have scum on the top. So, where do I go from here? Should I try and plumb in a ball valve on the return and have the excess drain back into the sump, (problem is I run 5/8" vinyl tubing. Do they make 5/8" PVC?) or do I just bore out the overflow drain to handle like a 1.5" drain?
  6. dang.. why you have to live in eugene? :p
  7. Old thread got buried .. but everything still for sale. and OBO. mag 9.5 $40 icecap 660 (with cords, kinda homemade looking, but all wires and endcaps are there for VHO's $85 2x Reeflux 250w 10k SE bulbs. 1 is brand spanking new, never been fired. The other has exactly 100 burn in hours on it (8 hours for 12 days, and 4 hours on the 13th day). Both for $80 or $50 for the new one, and $45 for the used one. They run $60 brand new from reef exotics.
  8. Thanks oldbrownies! Looking good so far, got her temp acclimating as we speak. She looks awesome in person. Cant wait to get her in the tank to see how she likes it How long do you think i should drip acclimate her for? HAHA.. and up until i talked to you on the phone, i totally thought you were like this old, kinda overweight guy with a full beard, for some reason (probably cuz i had a teacher with the last name browne in junior high, and for some reason the connection was made unknowingly :p . Totally not what i expected lol.

    is this bleached

ive got a green mushy that is half bleached, and a quarter half colored.. if that made any sense lol. its really weird though, theres faint blotches of color, other then that, its all white.. dunno why really, everything else in the tank is fine, even the other mushrooms it came from. /shrug
  10. aloha .. howzit? :p i have lots of hawaiin friends
  11. yeh, the whole acclimation thing.. really gets to me.. dunno if should/shoudnt etc etc.. but after reading that thread.... we've had problems acclimating dwarf angels in my wifes tank, while every thing else seems to survive just fine. So after reading that, we had just gotten her another flame. The last one we tried, never calmed down, his breathing was very very fast and gasping, and he didnt make it through the night. So this time, we temp acclimated, and threw him in.. Voila.. he's doing way better then our previous tries with a flame, and potters. dunno what it says abou acclimation, but the fish is doing really well, he ate within 2 minutes of putting him in, and his breathing is normal, and he just loves cruising the tank.

theyve got ones with little dehumidifier like things in the chamber that will keep the food dry.
  13. Welcome to pnwmas!! looks like a great start! keep us updated
  14. mag 300 = mag 3 mag 500 = mag 5 mag 950 = mag 9.5 and so on doesnt look like they carry the mag 3 though
  15. yup.. thats one thing i think everyone can agree on. they need cleaning often to work decently. as for the pump, id go with a mag 3 or 5. the mj1200 just isnt enough. ive thought about hooking up the venturi line though, since i now have my old one in my wifes tank now.
  16. switched out my 14k hammy for an XM 20k today cuz i just couldnt wait until i get my dual HQI ballast. Wow.. just wow. for being a 20k lamp, its a hell of a lot brighter then my hammy ever was. im quite amazed at the color and brightness. i will now for sure never ever go back to a hammy 14k. i can finally look at my tank and say that it is nice to look at again. i really dont even need the VHO 50/50 anymore. I might just swap it out with another actinic.
  17. off topic a bit: know any diving courses near the portland area?
  18. hmm.. some of those pendants look nice.. i wonder if i could squeeze the 6 1/2 inch pfo pendant in there.. any thoughts on the pfo? only reason i bring up the T5's is i have a spare 660 laying around.
  19. the T5's would be just to add a little more brightness and let me run dual actinic vho's
  20. the pendant would have to be 5" or less, wide to fit. just measured
  21. id love to get pendants.. but i dont think theyd fit inside the hood with the vho's.
  22. hmm. cool. i think im going to look around locally to see if i can find one
