  1. Welcome- I don't run my 40 gallon with a sump. Skimmer is just a CPR Bak-Pak. Contrary to what you hear, it works just fine. I do have a HOB filter I've pulled the sponge from and replaced with a couple of small pieces of live rock, not really needed but contributes to extra flow. I have a deep sand bed and run carbon too.
  2. Hi All, I want/need an inexpensive powerhead anchor- I'm learning to really hate suction cups. I haven't spent alot of time searching for plans- I was hoping someone here had some good ideas, had made these before, or had seen some good plans somewhere else. I've seen the magnetic one posted in this forum before- but I was wanting something more simple. The powerheads are maxi-jets. I want it to be simple and inexpensive. And I don't want it to look too ghetto. In return for your feedback- I'll post my progress. Thanks.
  3. I've posted this before... "Here are my credentials- I have an associates degree in Chemistry Technology from Clark Community College that allowed me to work as a chemistry technician (at a Chlor-Alkali plant in Portland) while I finished College at the University of Portland. I graduated with a major in biology and a minor in chemistry. I worked as a QC chemist for a year before I worked as a formulations chemist for the next eight years. Since 2000, I progressively became more involved in IT, which I'm now doing full time for a large chemical distributor."
  4. dsoz- I think there's a problem with your toll free number. It dosn't work for me!?!
  5. It is doing well- and feeding. The oral disk seems to be picking up a little color- light greenish/yellow. Hasn't moved from his spot at the base of the Xenia. Have yours moved from the rock you brought them in on?
  6. It's a great photo too.
  7. They are good. I haven't seen the black ones as much as the grey/brown/cream/white ones (this was just the only photo of one I had). Generally reproduce in the aquariums. I recently read/heard shrimp (including cleaner shrimp) eat them. I wonder if that is why I haven't seen them much in my own system anymore.
  8. I guess I hadn't posted any photos of the sixline in this thread yet either...
  9. Here are a couple of current photos (both of them already posted elsewhere on the forum)... I hated the egg crate back on the tank so I pulled it off. Full tank shot- taken last weekend. Hitchhiker 'Hell's Fire' Anemone.
  10. Do a quick google image search for Stomatella snail.
  11. I really like the aquascaping on your new tank. IMO, it's a great improvement.
  12. Fore-arm's pretty good too. I got stung up pretty good from jellyfish pulling up crabtraps several years ago. They'd catch on the ropes and just splatter everywhere.
  13. Not for 5 bucks... How about for a frag?(laugh) Sixty-five-- No fear here. It's pretty small now and I can't imagine it would be worse than my rabbitfish. Just keeping the antihistamine handy...
  14. They're adorable. It's crazy seeing something that small but colored and shaped like an adult.
  15. Thanks- Waves has more but I'm sure the price just went up. (Isn't true in this hobby that any critter with a cool name "Hell's Fire Anemone" demands a higher premium? )
  16. I got a quick response from Ron Shimek... Hi, You asked, "Could this be Actinodendron or Phymanthus or something else?" I think the best answer is, "Yes." Definitely, it is a branched anemone. It could be a juvenile of a species in either of the genera you have mentioned, or in another related genus. There are probably around 30 potential species that it might be. Frankly, distinguishing these species is difficult and needs animals that are really somewhat larger. Some of the branching characteristics will not show up until the animal is bigger. The common name for any number of these animals is "Hell's Fire" anemone, referring to the delightful sensation one get when stung. These animals are dangerous, and it is not related to size. Not only is the venom of the sting potent, but one can be allergic to them, so... plan ahead, and don't get stung. If you do get stung once, don't do a second time (one can become sensitized to the venom). Sorry not to be of more help. It is a neat animal, and if I had it in my tank, I would do everything I could to keep it happy. But, I like odd anemones. Cheers, Ron
  17. I picked up a small frag from Waves that had a small hitchiker anemone attached. It acts (walks and eats) just like an anemone would. Anyone know what it is? I thought possibly Phymanthus?
