darrellw Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Does anyone know where I can pick up a very long (12-20") pipette? I'd like to use one for some target feeding, and a turkey baster is just too big for what I need. This is the closest I've found: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~HL1311~tab~0.html But I'd like something even longer and thinner if possible. This is another possibility, but may be overkill for what I need: http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_ViewItem~idProduct~KM2711.html -Darrell Quote
andy Posted February 4, 2009 Posted February 4, 2009 Aquatic Eco-Systems is a good place to start I think. Quote
snowpunk Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 Saw some at World of Wet Pets while picking up some freshwater stuff with a friend. I think it was maybe 16" (don't quote me on that). Quote
spectra Posted February 8, 2009 Posted February 8, 2009 The one you posted is ok but not long at all. Waves had one that fit the bill for what you are looking for. Give them a call and see if they have it on the shelf. Quote
steelhead77 Posted February 10, 2009 Posted February 10, 2009 I believe I saw one at Waves on Saturday 2/7. It extended to about 20 inches or so. Quote
Michael7979 Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 Syringe and some airline tubing Add some airline tubing to one of the old syringes from a test kit, see if that works for ya. Quote
darrellw Posted February 11, 2009 Author Posted February 11, 2009 Thanks everyone for the leads and ideas. I ended up ordering one from Aquatic Eco-Systems, found a few other things I wanted from them. Quote
CA2OR Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 good. Glad to hear it worked out for you. Quote
JManrow Posted February 11, 2009 Posted February 11, 2009 I remember making long pipettes from glass eye droppers back in biology lab by heating the center of the glass tube over a Bunsen burner and stretching it slowly. Here is a link with a mention of doing this. http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/indexmag.html?http://www.microscopy-uk.org.uk/mag/artnov01/tools2.html A possible source of pipettes is http://www.dynamicaqua.com/pipettes.html Quote
darrellw Posted February 14, 2009 Author Posted February 14, 2009 Just a quick update, got my pipette from Aquatic Eco-systems today. It is the perfect size. But I noticed printed on the side is "for in vitro use only". Just had to share that tidbit.... Quote
Trever Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 But I noticed printed on the side is "for in vitro use only". Hahaha. Thanks for the warning! Quote
