Benny503 Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 After checking out everyone else tank, I feel like I am the only person in here using powerheads from petco. I have a 30g and 50g powerheads, I am having a feeling that those are not good enought for reef tank. Should I buy different power head? Any recommend powerhead? Attachment is a picture that show my powerheads. Quote
Nyles Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 holy toledo thats a lot of rock, it depends on what your going for, if its fish only you are acceptable, if it softy tank I would shoot for a 25x turnover and SPS I would shoot for 50x turnover So for example on my tank I have a 75 gallon and I turn over about 4600GPH = 61 times per hour. Benny503 Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 OMG... that's a lot of GPH... I think I need to buy more powerheads... what are the good brand out there? Quote
defigart Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Check out this article from WWM: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/cav1i4/power_heads/Power_Heads.htm Quote
andy Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Check out Koralia pumps, too: http://www.hydor.it/en/products/show/27 Quote
Benny503 Posted July 4, 2008 Author Posted July 4, 2008 I like the KORALIA 4 it had rate at 12000GPH. Should I get 1 Koralia 4 or get 2 Koralia 3 to pointed it into different direction for the 26G tank? Quote
siskiou Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 What size tank do you have? The Koralias stick out quite a bit and might be too large for your tank. Especially since you have a lot of rock! Quote
siskiou Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 You might want to consider taking out a rock or two for better flow and positioning of pumps. Do they carry the Koralias at the LFSs in Portland? If yes, you could take a look at their size and see if they'd for your set-up. I have a couple of 3s and a 4, but in much larger tanks. The nano Tunzes are also a choice, but the price is a bit higher. They are smaller, though. Quote
pledosophy Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 I know Waves does carry the Koralia power heads. You might want to look at the nano ones they make. I am not sure if Waves has those in stock or not. I know they have the 3's because that is where I got mine. Quote
Nyles Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 With my 21g I did maxijet 1200's with the hydro flo diffusers. Quote
dsoz Posted July 4, 2008 Posted July 4, 2008 Don't get a K-4 in that small of a tank. All you would see is a monster powerhead in there. Get a one or two more small ones, like a Maxijet 1200. You should be fine with one or two of them. dsoz Quote
mister crabs Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 get 2 koralia 1's on opposte sides of the tank. good flow for that size tank. Quote
Smann Posted July 5, 2008 Posted July 5, 2008 Always had good luck with maxijets, have some years old that i still use for water changes etc. Also tried on of the mods they came out with on a 1200 it was like putting a outboard motor in the sank, it sucked air from 4" down!. might try a 900 or 600 again Quote
Benny503 Posted July 6, 2008 Author Posted July 6, 2008 Yup, after extensive researched I decided to go with two of the Maxijet 1200. Now all I have to do is wait for my bonus coming out sometime early august. Thanks all. Quote
