spayne
Just an FYI! Our membership year ends this month, so if you're wanting to renew your membership you might want to think about doing that pretty soon! Paypal is in fine working order or you can show up at the meeting at Ryan's and I will get you renewed. I am using a label maker to make the stickers, which you will affix to the back of your card. It will show the month and year (JUL 06-07) as well as a "F" or "S" depending on what membership you have purchased. Make sure I know what your membername is, whether you are a new member or an renewing member, so I can make sure you have access to the member forum! Let me know if you have any questions! rude944
Stacy, you gotta throw a renew incentive in here. Last year, Weasts place served as the tour de force in recruitment. Gotta be in to go in kinda deal. It was worthwhile. What's in the lineup?
spayne
Roger finished filling out the rest of the calendar for this year and we have big plans for next year. We're planning on going back to the Newport Aquarium and we were discussing having a "Reef Fair". Basically at the fair, we would have different exhibits where a person would be in charge to discuss stuff... such as if Roy was handing zoanthids, he would talk about them as well as teach fragging techniques. We discussed having setups with different lighting options, ie T5/PC/Halide... and maybe try to convince PFO to demo the LED lighting hood they have. We're hoping other vendors, as well as sponsors, will attend and demo their products. Other possibilities for "stations" would be plumbing, electrical, the various types of coral husbandries and propagation of... it is really in its infancy of development. We are also working on booking specialists in the hobby to speak at meetings as well. Our emphasis in this next year will be education. We are also discussing having tank tours of fellow member tanks. I know I would enjoy hitting several tanks in one day, just to see the different ways fellow hobbyists do things. I think it will be an exciting year! Stacy
impur
Sounds like a great plan for the coming year. I'll be in for sure!
spayne
If you find that you can't access the members only area anymore, it's probably because you haven't paid your annual membership dues. Either that or I screwed up. Other reasons for the importance of having dues is to pay for our website. The server and other miscellaneous fees associated with running a website isn't free. Also, dues will pay for bringing speakers in such as Shimek, Riddle and such. If you don't have a current card, you will have to pay a fee to attend a speaker event. Flying individuals in as well as putting them up in a hotel and feeding them doesn't come cheap either! Sometimes they charge a speaker fee as well. Sponsors will be checking the dates on the backs of your cards to make sure your membership with PNWMAS is current. I will also be putting together a list of current members that sponsors can review. If you paid your dues, but can't access the members area... let me know! I have a couple people that have paid that I don't know the user name for. Thanks! Ladiebuggy
Just an idea..... Do we have a donation that could be raffled off to a member that renews in the month of July or August. It would seem that early renewal would be better for the club. I guess just the money saved on a couple of trips to lfs should be enough incentive, but wth. spayne
How much are dues anyhow? $20 for single membership and $30 for family (that would include yourself and 3 family members I do believe!).
