tenderfoot
I am super excited to get this new build going. I have a custom envision 200 gallon and I am hoping to get some ideas here for leveling it. I have a steel stand and I am putting it on carpet in the living room, its 72 long. The steel stand as is, is directly on the carpet and the skin rests on the carpet too. I have a plywood piece between steel stand and the tank. I have all the plumbing parts and rock in a garbage can in the garage. I could use a little help with the overall plumbing and leveling component if anyone is near the hillsboro area or willing to visit for a frag or drink, cigar whatever. Any thoughts are appreciated.
matt
I used strip of ply wood between the stand and floor when I did mine. sent from a Samsung note 4
tenderfoot
Thanks Matt, this is 200 gallons, what thickness would you recommend?
matt
I used OSB so it was 1/2" put a level on it and se. Pick the front of the level up and measure the distance between the level and the tank. I like to have my tanks lean in to the wall a bit. That way when full they should be flat sent from a Samsung note 4
tenderfoot
What did you use to level it Matt? shims?
spectra
You could use shims. I have always just used any old piece of small wood in years past. My small tank now has a chunk of 3/8s or so in the front corner as that made everything pan out on the carpet.
The ReefBox
How bout cutting out carpet and installing tile, thus if you have leak water won't rot or distort the wood. You can level the tile with thin set or leveling compound. I just like permanent fixes not that anyone else's ideas were bad. I just look at possible prob in future
matt
I used 1/2" OSB "oriented strand board" ply wood. Shims would work too sent from a Samsung note 4
Fisher15
Is it a rental?

LadySaber
hmmm you know even if it was a rental you could lay a large piece of board down then tile it? That way you don't cut the carpet? Just a thought.
tenderfoot
Thanks for the thoughts. I'm trying to think big picture and imagine the tile situation would benefit a large leak... yet with no drain it will get everywhere. Fisher15
Use a HVAC drain pan and plumb it outside. You can glue trim to the outside to hide it.
tenderfoot
Have you done that in your build Fisher? Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
The ReefBox
you could definetly do a drain but carpet is easy to dry if not under the stand. Not sure it's necessary and hopefully you build to prevent "Large" leaks!
