impur
I need to redo my frag racks, the magnet cleaners i have are just barely too weak. I woke up the other morning with one of them fallen off. So i found this site with these rubber and plastic coated magnets. Does anyone know about magnet strength and if any of these would work on say 1/2" - 5/8" glass? http://www.kjmagnetics.com/products.asp?cat=
vanz
flyguy would know. I'm pretty sure he bought a bunch to make those frag mags awhile ago. What happened to that guy anyway?
siskiou
If you find out about the magnets, I'd like to know too. I need something to hang the MJmod safely. My acrylic strip hanger works, but it rattles annoyingly on occasion.
dsoz
Ya, find out and report back. Magnets are WAY COOL!
uhuru
I have about 4 or 5 of those rubber coated magnets. I got them just in case I needed to mount something in the future. They are very, very strong. They will literally break your finger if you have it between 2 magnets, so be careful using them on glass. Compared to the magnet on an algae cleaner I would say a hell of a lot stronger. Compared to the magnet on a hydor koralia I would say maybe 3 times stronger. Yes they are that strong. impur
Wow, thanks for the info! Is there something that tells you the strength? Know of anywhere that has these coated ones a little weaker?
uhuru
It might have said it on the sheet that came with the magnets, but I threw that away already. It did have a warning on it though, that you could really hurt yourself with them LOL. I don't know where you could find a weaker one sorry. impur
I wonder if Grade N42 pertains to the strength?
siskiou
Check out their "specs" page. The N42 refers to the material, but the list coersive force and such there, too! Not sure if that's helpful, since there is nothing to compare the strength to.
impur
How about these? http://www.gaussboys.com/ndfeb-magnets/D3006.html I'm thinking of getting the real strong ones and coating them with silicon. Or getting the rubber ones. What makes these plastic/rubber coated ones so great is you don't have the extra step of coating them in resin. These could be inlaid into some acrylic or something real easily to make a nice pump mount. I think i'm gonna try ordering half a dozen and try them out. I'm also gonna head over the craft store to see what they might have in stock.
impur
Ok i'm going with these. 10 magnets, coated in ABS plastic, for 8 bucks before shipping. More you buy, better the discount. Anyone in for 10? http://www.amazingmagnets.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=
siskiou
Do you know how strong these are? They are pretty small...
dsoz
I like magnets, and I want to make some magnet mounts for my powerheads. Do you think these would work??? Maybe a little superglue and I am in business? What do you think? If you think that this would work, I could go for 10. I'll bring $8 to the June meeting, and you can get them to me at the July meeting. dsoz
impur
I don't think i'm going to the meeting now :/ You could mail it to me or paypal. These are strong enough to break your finger if you aren't careful.
dsoz
I don't have paypal. I think it would be dangerous for me to get something like that. I know myself too well. Is there someone that will be at the meeting that we can use as a go-between? If not, I do not need the magnets. I can live with the suction cups for now. dsoz
siskiou
If they are that strong, I'd like 8 of them! How much is shipping?
vanz
Hey mark me down for 10 also!
impur
Susanne they only come in 10 packs. dsoz - maybe you can work something out with vanz, or spectra they are in too. Me - 10 dsoz - 10 spectra - 10 vanz - 10 Susanne - 10?
siskiou
Yes, 10! I mistook the price for the amount. Is this 10 pairs, or 10 magnets making 5 pairs?
impur
10 magnets = 5 pairs
siskiou
sounds good! I need something for that MJmod. Still going good, by the way!
drock59
Miles did you order already? This magnet idea has me thinking. Any links to how you plan on using them?
impur
Susanne - good to hear! I had hoped that new prop would work better Dan - I have not ordered. Will probably order this week or early next. I don't have any links, if they are completely sealed i will just use some epoxy or something to affix them to the frag racks and MJmods. I might hit up a craft store and see what kind of resins they have. A tupperware container and some craft resin would do nicely to make a magnet holder.
