J-Dog
Are there any side effects on SPS when raising magnesium levels too high? I recently brought my mag levels up to about 1500+ and have noticed that some of the tips on my newer frags have died off. I'm not sure if it is related or not, but I wanted to see if anyone else might know anything.
Ron Popeil
i have never noticed ill effects on my sps with high magnesium, but it will bleach out soft corals like leathers and mushrooms. if it is raised very high you may also notice your snails very displeased. ....but at least your bryopsis will burn away. Electrokate
Accidentally brought mine over 2000 and noticed no ill effects. Also managed to drop the alk to 5 or less at this time and nothing changed. I may however be doing bad math (using LaMotte test kits which are excruciatingly difficult for me to comprehend). Unfortunately this did not reduce cyano as promised (:
epicenter
I have had high mag levels to combat other things & have not noticed any ill effects on sps, however I have had sps tips die off due to spent lighting. Soon as I change bulbs all sps tips regrow.
impur
Mine is always around 1500 and I don't notice anything negative either.

impur
I asked because sometimes high alk will cause burnt tips..... Have you checked your bulb? Assuming its MH, i have heard of a small crack in the glass causing the same burnt tip issues
